What was your most expensive jump ticket?
phonics1981 replied to kyros1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah, the prices ive heard that people pay in the US are really cheap. The AFF etc are much cheaper that over here. Never mind ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------ -

How do you land a skysurf board?
phonics1981 replied to jkeeling's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I saw a programme a few weeks back called Extreme Artists (i think) and on it was a Skysurfer, i cant remember her name, but she did a jump and instead of a skyboard she used a snow board, landed on a volcano, cut away her main chute and snowboarded to the bottom!! What a ride that would be!! ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------ -
is it logical to do your first jump AFF?
phonics1981 replied to CaneSpider's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I wouldnt say I was TOTALLY relaxed on Level 1 but i was more relaxed on 1 than on some of the others. On my level 7 I was really nervous, i think that was more to do with hoping I passed, which I did. Wooo!! ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------ -

Cane, looking at all the responses here I bet your still no further in deciding!!! I guess it depends on you and what you want. If you feel nervous about doing your 1st as AFF, then do a tandem. Its not worth worrying over. Either way, youll love it!!! ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------ -

Ive never done a tandem so dont hold me to this but... From what people (only 2 people!!) who have done a tandem then decided to do AFF have told me, tandems are nothing like AFF. They say that a tandem is like being on a fair ground ride. They cant put into words how different it feels to an AFF and wish they had saved the cash for AFF. Is this what everyone feels like? ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------ -
Well done! Are you addicted already!!?? ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------

Terminal Velocity, Fastest ?
phonics1981 replied to dropdeded's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
LOL!! Its just common sense that a smaller surface area presents less resistence and will therefore travel faster ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------ -

phonics1981 replied to CaneSpider's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My first jump was AFF and i'm sooooo pleased it was! The sense of acheivment is amazing. If you think skydiving is something you want to do then I definately recommend AFF the way to go. Obviously ive never learned any other way so i'm a bit biased but ive never heard anyone who went the AFF way say they wish they hadnt! ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------ -
It depends on the aircraft. But dont worry, the instructors will brief you in full and have you practice the exit in a mock-up so that you will be doing it in your sleep!! ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------

Reading through some of the posts on here, I see people referring to D-1 etc when talking about AFF. What does this mean? I took my AFF Levels 1 to 8. ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------

Ive been told that if anyone has a problem perceiving height, tell them to flare when they can pick out individual blades of grass. This should make the flare the correct height. ive never tried this but ive heard it works. ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------

This is a very newbie question.

The more you arch (relaxed), theoretically the more stable you will be. As my instructors drummed into me, "Like a shuttlecock"!! ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------ -

On my AFF Level 7, both my instructor and the videographer recorded my average fall rate at 140mph. I'm 5'7 and 11 and a half stone (Not sure what these equates to in pounds). Is this normal? ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------ -

Nice one mate!! I jump at Peterlee too and am well impressed with all the staff there. I recently completed my AFF with no rejumps and I credit alot of that to the excellent level of help I was given by all the instructors like Dave Mitchell and Dick Kalinski. Unfortunately due to me being well ill, ive only done a few jumps since finishing the course but cant wait to get back up there after me hollys! ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------ -
I'm going back to AFF next week.

I booked my AFF course for Easter weekend at Peterlee in the UK. Weather didnt go as planned and instead of completing the full course, I only got 1 jump!! UK weather cannot be relied upon!! ------------------------------------------------------ "Ive given up on sigs cos I make a mess of them!" ------------------------------------------------------
