  1. uuuh, with respect i would really have to disagree with you on this one. i am a self employed general contractor and real estate broker. ok, lets see. besides all the home owner, motocycle and vehicle insurances, with the rider to cover my total net worth if some smuck sues me, there is general liabilty, then builders insurance (covers actual damage by theft, not covered under liabilty), errors and omissions ( E & O ) for the broker deals, workmans comp if i bring on employees...shall i go on? oh, forgot about the scuba and good old UPSA insurance. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?
  2. Sure and 100% of divorces started with a marriage. I'm with you, number don't mean anything, including karat count. Love counts, but commitment counts because times get tough sometimes. The commitment will get you through the tough times so you can remember that you absolutely do love each other. Couldn't have said it much better.
  3. my wife ripped a nice one and then informed me that she juiced cabbage for lunch (really, she is a health nut).... its gonna be a long night. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?
  4. damn, if i was going to pay insurance on something, i sure would like it to be more interesting than a silly rock. not only have we (society) been sold the idea of diamonds, then the insurance industry comes in and makes $ off of it. ahhh, the dumbing down continues... If you have homeowner's insurance, you can get a rider attached for jewelry. I don't think it was all that much extra. We had our antique ring appraised and insured for that amount. yeah, i know, i have multiple houses with one big fat rider or this and that...but not for a rock. i just hate insurance all together, and the fact that we buy it for a rock, is silly. i think for me it comes down to vanity. the diamond is to show off, to brag about. how bout showing off your love for each other by getting married and STAYING married. 50% of marriages end in divorce. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

  8. Do you have enough savings to last six months without any pay check? It'd suck to have to sell that ring for $2000. Have you both put $13,750 into your 401Ks (I'm assuming you'll get to the $16,500 total) so you can probably enjoy a long retirement together with a high standard of living starting at 59 1/2? Have you paid off your cars and student loans so you're debt-free (other than mortgage debt) and have more income free for discretionary spending on doing things together like travel? Do you guys own a house yet so you have a nice place to nest and potentially raise micro people (now is not the time to buy) or have a 20% down-payment in the bank (some time will be good)? There are lots of ways to spend $6000 on your wife to be which will improve the quality of her life and yours together. i soooooo agree. and, our house is paid off, we are debt free, we have cash in the bank, all cars, rigs, ultralight, motorcycles, and other toys paid for with cash, fully funding roths (self employed)...and we would still not waste money on vanity like that. one thing i disagree is that now IS the time to buy. i am a builder, wife is a broker, we do repos. houses are on sale. yes, it may go down a bit more, but, this is the time to buy. un less you ment not the right time for them, personally. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?
  9. $7000 bought us top of the line scuba gear, which we still use today...$6000 took us to Belize at a top end hotel for a week...$9000 helped us try to save our doggie.... its a rock, its silly. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?
  10. +1 .... no kidding. so lets see, what could we get for that kind of money...hmmm, more education at a school, a rig...ok, guys lets hear some more... Pay off debt, partial down payment on a home, REALLY nice vacation, more for the wedding, more for things you can actually use (computers, phone upgrades etc). Basically there's WAY more usefull things to spend your money on than a tiny piece of shiney rock. yep! hell, our entire wedding and honeymoon only cost 6 grand...but we did get married in the skyvan at altitude.

  13. went we decided to get married, she told me she did not want a ring. "every time a wear a ring and wash my face, in spins around and the stone scratches my face." we decide to have custom rings made with symbols that represented our love for each other. i asked her since no ring, what could i give her...."coffee in bed every morning for the rest of my life." yep. thats what i do!
  14. Evidently at least one person was yeah, down the street in a empty lot, hidden by a house. could not see him till center of intersection. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

  20. I only need 100ft to take off, and can land on a dirt path, just gotta watch the brush. We often fly over the mountains where hang gliders fly, but i think dont like us cause we make noise. weight shift trikes are really "barnstormer" friendly, you should see some of the places i have be able to set down and take back off from.
  21. Is that the desert just outside of Vagas?(LA side) Looks Familuar! you must be thinking of Primm, NV? this is the "high desert"...Victorville, Apple Valley, Hesperia, just up the I-15 from LA. That lake bed is on the way to Lucern valley on Hwy 18...the "back way" up to Big Bear. Its a nice place to fly, we have the dry lake bed, the desert, and the trees in the mountains near by. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?
  22. i fly one of these, does that count? really though, it is a "hang glider" with a power plant. we often shut down the engines and fly "dead stick" to the landing area. mine is made my solo wings (solowings.com) and has a 15 sq. meter wing, with 70% dual surface, cruise speed is 46 mph. plus you can fly a passenger. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?
