Random questions from reading the forums...

Static line a T-10 at 20K feet with a cell phone in one hand a camcorder in the other. plus a GPS in your pocket (not much point looking at it when you can't really steer). hmm... I'd take a beer in camcorder hand and try to find someone with a shoe-vu mount... -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -
I have been ripped off on e-bay. Not skydiving related, but man it pissed me off! It's easy to be had. And there is not a whole lot you can do about it for smaller purchases. I'd go as far as to call the home dropzone of the jumper in question and ask for references, preferably from a rigger. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

I think you should. You will find that the digital ones are very nice. I myself didn't want to go digital untill I took a Scott Miller canopy course, and he had a couple Neptunes to lend out. I tried one and put it an order for one the next day. They are actually a lot easier to read than the analogs (my opinion), and have a backlight for night jumps (or dusk). Plus they are more accurate under canopy and the log function while not very usefull to everybody is handy and interesting. And as well, the speed indication is nice to get a ballpark figure of how well you are flying relative to the normal fall rate of RW formations or freeflyers while you are learning and doing solos. The exceptional customer service at Alti-2 is another good reason to go with any one of their products, digital or not. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Why the aversion to digital? Have you ever jumped with a digi readout? It is quite nice. Very easy to read, and very reliable. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

If you are above 12K, why do you need to know exactly what altitude you are at? As long as you figure out where you are before exiting for logging purposes. That being said... get a Neptune. Get two and put one in your helmet. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Yves, I like your sig line, but I have to say that Ron would better serve as Press Secretary. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

If someone wanted me to pay for a main that was lost on a cutaway from a malfunction on a canopy that I packed, they would have to sue me. Not to say that I wouldn't feel bad about it. I would gladly sell lost main insurance on every pack job for $50 a pack job though... hell maybe even $40. But you would have to prove that the malfunction was my fault, and if I find the main I get to keep it. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Why have the ball returners and pin setters at the bowling alley? Why not just wa lk to the end of the alley and set up the pins and walk with your ball back to the beginning? Convenience. It's like having a maid clean your house because you have enough moeny to and you think you have better ways to employ your time. Like going to a restaurant and paying someone else to go out and source a supplier for your food and then cook it for you and serve it to you. Are you not still eating? Convenience. Packing sucks. I was a packer, I put in a couple thousand pack jobs to get me a few hundred jumps and then I quit packing because I hate doing it. Lazy, no but it's not exactly fun. I was waking up on a Saturday morning and hoping it would rain so I wouldn't have to pack anything. Or I would opt out of getting on a load sometimes because I just packed 10 tandems and I didn't feel like packing my own parachute after. Maybe some people call it lazy, but you wouldn't have called me lazy on some day I had to pack 30-40 tandems + sport rigs. I put in my time. I will now pay a packer every once in a while just because I hate packing. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Excellent, I am getting quite a list of people. I will formulate a mass-email with all the questions I have and see what I get back. I still haven't decided if I am going to do it. I still need to convince the DZO to go with it. I am fortunate in that we have 2 182's to do the attempt and a 206 to keep the tandems going. I just don't know how it would go over with all the experienced jumpers if we only offered h&p's and tandem loads for an entire day. He's probably already caught wind that I am thinking about it, just from someone reading this forum... so.. we'll see. My charity would be the Hemophilia Society. I am a hemophiliac myself, and I would like to have a blood donor clinic at the event as well. (Blood donors are very important for hemophiliacs) So go donate blood if you can please. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -
cameraman getting jumps for tandom

I'm under the impression that Taupo requires 1,000 jumps for tandems, but not the other DZ's in NZ.. am I wrong? -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -

Will they let you jump camera for tandems after taking a year off and having 350 jumps? My guess is that you will have the requirements for getting your tandem rating before you really get rolling as a video guy. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -
Very kindly said. Spell checking previous posters posts is pretty rude I think. Some people don't see it that way, but I bet a phsycologist could read alot into it. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

I've seen that... I'm more interested in how I would be able to pull it off... obviously I am not looking at 600 jumps. Unfortunately... -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -

There you go Chris.. go to Skydive Toronto and Arnprior.... Where do you jump anyway? You must jump in Arnprior.. and they do winter jumps. We would in Gan, but we can't get the planes through the 6ft of snow on the runways... -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -

Anybody who's done one of these or more than one, I would like to hear thoughts stories, ideas, lists... whatever you got. How you got jumpers to fill slots.. what you were charged for a load, who you got to donate, what you got donated.. etc. etc. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -

Looks like 2 people voted to have the packer pay for the main. I'd like to hear those person's thoughts on the matter. I did a pack job once that opened so hard it broke two lines... I felt like a real asshole for quite a while about it. Then I found out that PD had f'd up when they installed the lines. Shit happens... think that PD was going to pay me for that packjob? -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

I've seen video of PD test jumpers jumping with 3 people under a tandem canopy... the third person cutting away from the group and opening their own main. I believe it was to test wingloading under cargo parachutes. Wingloading they obviously couldn't get with just 2 people. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
