Keys Boogie 2005 - Skydive Sebastian - Marathon Key
damonsteele replied to bendywendy's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I just called the Coconut Cay Resort (where I'm staying). They said that they have some damage but haven't gotten a chance to get to every room to see what's what. They said to call them back tomorrow and they would have a better idea. I also asked them how the airport looked. They said it's in good shape and there is not a lot of water over there anymore. The boogie is still a couple of weeks out. A lot of repairs and mending can happen in that amount of time. I, for one, will stay positive! Hope to see you all there! -
The Skydive Delmarva crew will be there again this year. Damon Erica Gary Dave Sara Lisa Gregor Christine Doug Josh TJ Ahmed Bobby Glenn Tammy plus a few more that I can't think of right now. Last year, we had about 15 jumpers from Delmarva down there. What a blast! Can't wait!!!!!

I think the real issue is, is there really a Skydive Flagstaff out there. Is it a place where a prospective student go make a jump?

AFF is not going well for me
damonsteele replied to maestropaolo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
After 8 years of being an AFF Instructor, I had to send someone back from a level 4 to a level 3. I got to the point were it was a safety issue for both the student and the instructor. To make a long story short, the level 4 spun out of control, I went in to stop the spin and got swift kick in the left eye. Was able to get him under control, but my head was spinning for a while afterwards. -
Considering buying either the Epson R800 or Epson RX600. There are advantages to each, but wanted to kow if anyone out there is using either of these printers.

How to attach stroboframe to helmet...?
damonsteele replied to AndyMan's topic in Photography and Video
"it looks like I need to take apart the baseplate to get to the screw-holes." That's exactly what your going to have to do. It's really not that hard. One thing you'll have to watch for though is when you use the screws (and make sure you countersink the holes), you may have to grind them down a bit. What happens is that if the base plate isn't a thick as the screws are long, when you tighten them down, it can interfere with the actual mechanism. Again, not hard, just cumbersome. Have fun! It's well worth it when your finished. -
Tandems only, nobody else allowed...
damonsteele replied to funks's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You could also check out Skydive Delmarva in Laurel, DE. It is about 10 minutes from Skydive Maryland and has a full time Twin Otter, load organizers, coaches, freeflying and RW. Check it out. -
I have a Sony pc105 and a PowerMac G5. I have NO problem whatsoever capturing footage directy from the camera. I don't have FCE (yet), so i am using iMovie. Have you tried every Firewire port available (I assume you have). Damon

Just bought a PowerMac G5 and iLife '04 was included. Started looking at iMovie and was wondering if anyone knew of a good site for tutorials or tips.

A lot of people out there are using the Canon 10D or the Digital Rebel (300D). Both are 6.3 Mp cameras. Are you planning on mounting vertical or horizontal? If horizontal, some industrial strength velcro and mounting bolt will work fine. If vertical, a Shark Fin from Bonehead Composites will do the trick (along with a Stroboframe Quick Release)
-
Would like to now from people that are using the shark fin from BH on a FTP. I will be receiving mine in the next week and have the idea of mounting both the video (pc105) and still camera (Digital Rebel) on top with tthe still camera mounted vertically on the shark fin. My question is this...Is the shark fin sturdy enough to hold the still camera in place during a less than desirable opening? The base of the shark fin does not seem to be broad enough to me. Am I just being paranoid? Edited for clarity

Getting ready to purchase the Flat Top Pro and wanted to know if anyone has noticed any difference as far as the height of the helmet (where the camera mounts), if it is actually sits higher, thus having to adjust your head position while filming. I currently have the older Hanson full face helmet (the one that you had to foam)

Just wanted to get a opinion from users of these helmets. I'm in the market for a new helmet and these are the pros and cons that I have come up for both: Wes Helmet Pros: Custom fit, impeccable quality, never have to buy another helmet, wide platform for multiple setups. Cons: Cost, not resellable (except maybe to a twin) Bonehead FT Pro Pros: Half the price of a Wes, wide platform for multiple setups, resellable Cons: Still costly ($700), not custom fitted (at least not like a Wes), larger profile. Let me know what you guys think.

PC-105... Where the hell is it?????
damonsteele replied to skydivegirl's topic in Photography and Video
Try Beach Camera. I got mine a few weeks ago and they had a really good price. http://www.beachcamera.com/shop/Product.asp?ProdTypeList=&Sku=SNVDCRPC105 -
DO NOT BUY FROM DIGITALLIQUIDATORS!!!!!! Do some research on resellerratings.com, you will find out about how they do business. Especially since you are an international buyer!!!! Do some research before you go for the "cheapest" price. It could cost you a lot more in the long run.

Anyone jumped the new Sigma 12-24mm?
damonsteele replied to freekfly's topic in Photography and Video
Thanks to everyone on your opinion for lens choices. I have broken down and just purchased the Sigma 15mm! Now if I can just keep my wife from seeing the credit card bill Bought it for what seemed to be a pretty good price. 396 (included FedEx 2 Day). -
Really nice looking box! Thanks for the link!

What other options are there other than using the Dbox. Would a stroboframe Quick Release with Anti-Twist plate be secure enough for the pc105? This is the first pc type camera that I have used, my other camera is the TRV900 which was a no brainer to mount. Just looking for any and all options for top mounting the pc105.

Would to know if any out there has a similar setup. I have a pc105 and Canon Rebel Digital. I want to top mount both. I will be vertically mounting the still. I want to place to pc 105 on top as well, but here's my problem. The pc 105 has the Diamond .3 wide angle lens. At first, I thought it would be easy just to place it in a Dbox from bonehead, but having heard that the lip on the box extends to far out and the lens picks this up, this seems like it won't work too well. Does anyone else have any suggestions or a similar setup that they could share (photos preferably). Thanks
