Are you sure this is true? It would have thought it would be all over the news here (UK) if it was, but I haven't heard a thing.

Been out of the sport. Now what??
ickleFish replied to novacaine's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Don't want to hijack the thread here.....but I'm in kind of in the same position.... I've not jumped for almost exaclty a year now, and only have 29 jumps and my A license. Is the same answer going to be true for me when I get back to it (hopefully sometime in the next couple of months)...start again? Thanks -
What's your view on the NZ Skydive Diploma?
ickleFish replied to ickleFish's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thanks for that....just had a read, and it would be interesting to hear from people who have been on the course more recently. I'm not really looking at it as if I'll get some wonderful job when it's over like some people in that thread seem to be. It just looks like a great way to spend a year away from home and learn more about skydiving aswell. What does anyone think about the cost? Some people seem to be saying it's a rip-off, but for what you get, I don't see it as really expensive? For me it would work out at NZ$13,400 (plus gear and other stuff). -
What's your view on the NZ Skydive Diploma?
ickleFish replied to ickleFish's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've seen a bit of info on this and had a look at the prospectus, but wondered what the general opinion is of this course in Christchurch (from anyone who might have done it, and also from experienced jumpers who have heard of it)? I haven't been skydiving for about a year now due to having difficulty getting to a DZ, and money...but I really want to get back into it, but also want to go travelling (or just get away from the UK) for a while, and this would seem like a good mix of both. I'm not particularly looking at it as a way to get a skydiving related job, but it seems like a good thing to learn about all aspects of skydiving, and the price looks OK considering everything that's included. I also realise that when I get back to the UK I'll probably have to complete another few hundred jumps before I can continue doing half the stuff that is on the course, but it still seems like a good way to spend a year. So...anyone got an opinions? I've heard it wasn't too good when it first started, but has apparently got a lot better since then? Thanks -
I was just wondering if there's a list anywhere (I've had a look on the BPA website but can't see anything) of the various coach/instructor ratings and any other qualifications in the UK, along with their minimum requirements, including jump numbers? Just interested to see how long into the sport you have to be to start getting things like this. Thanks

I thought the words 'beer' or 'booze' would be in most replies from this place.... Despite my great appreciation of the beer, I have a feeling there will plenty of it to go around. Now I know people say you can never have enough beeeeer (or is that just me?), I was thinking more along the lines of something she can keep, or just something a bit 'different'....like...so it looks like I have come up with an original and great idea all on my own....without any help....from an internet forum, or anyone....maybe....

D'oh....sorry....forgot to mention we're in the UK, so have been happily drinking (legally) for 3 years. I'm not really sure what she's into. I was kinda surprised I got an invite...I worked with her for a year in 2001/02, but since then have only just about kept in touch with her. Hmmm...maybe this is why I have no idea....

A friend of mine, who I used to work with, has invited me to her 21st birthday party thing this weekend, but I have no idea what to get for a present. I'm useless at stuff like this. Any ideas?

Well I'm A 10284, got it in October. Still waiting to appear in Canpara... (simple things...). Was only recently in there for my solo.

1.75Gb? ...dear god....someone else is going to have to help you out with that....

How big are the movies guys? I don't mind hosting them, but I just got a "reminder" (I think that's their polite word for a 'warning') about the bandwidth being used on my hosting account....last time I hosted a vid there was 1.4Gb transfer in one day...scary.... If they're small I can do it....but I'm guessing they're probably not....

Thanks for the replies so far everyone.... Bodyflight.Net .... I've designed quite a few sites for people, and have ended up hosting them aswell, so kind of have this reseller account with a company that I'm not reselling at the moment....thought I'd give it a go. They look after the servers for me and get everything installed, so I've got all the control panels, POP3 email and all that in place (unfortunately they charge quite a bit more for databases as they're only on dedicated servers for MySQL), so I'm really just trying to do a bit of research before I come up with some prices. The idea is for small to medium sites, nothing too scarily large. Thanks a lot for the advice. Anyone else with a site....more replies are welcome....

We got snow and thunder here in Dover at the moment aswell. 70 miles away, but hey... thought I'd join in.

Just a couple of question for all those who own/run/have a website of any sort... How much would you consider a reasonable amount to pay (per month or year) for hosting for a small-medium sized website? I think there are quite a few people on here who have one, whether it's a personal site, a DZ site or whatever else, so I thought it might be a good place to ask. Also, if you know the answer to these, how much webspace (Mb) and bandwidth (Mb/month) do you use, approximately? The reason I ask is because I'm about to start selling webspace on my servers, and would like to know what people consider reasonable prices, etc.... I hope it's OK to post about businessy things on here...I guessed it would be as long as I don't promote my own particular business. Thanks

I design all my sites for 800x600 (meaning the width of my pages are pretty much always 740, allowing for scroll bars etc...). I'm not really a fan of designing sites that are 100% width, because I like to know that the page is going to be displayed exactly as I designed it.

Calling UK - newbie needs help!
ickleFish replied to purplekittenUK's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I live in the UK, but have never jumped here. I made my first jump in Canada last year, and then went back this summer and went through AFF and got my A license (I was going there on holiday anyway, so figured I might as well get training done because it's so much cheaper). Hopefully I'll be able to start jumping here soon (money is a problem at the moment), I think Headcorn is my closest DZ. -
My little attempt... http://www.ickle-fish.com/Andaluciasm.jpg

I just spent over a month in Alberta. When I arrived I only had ever done one tandem jump, and by the time I left I had my A license.... I did everything at Eden North, just outside Edmonton. Had a really great time, the people are really nice and friendly, and good instructors aswell. I don't know how it compares with prices to other places, but if it's nearby for you, I'd definitely recommend dropping by.

How many jumps did it take you to get your A license?
ickleFish replied to kelel01's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I took 29 jumps, and 25 is the minimum with CSPA. Probably could have done it in the 25, but made more "fun" solo jumps before starting on the required coach jumps, so that added a few extra.
