  1. Wow! Not only would the GND destroy the environment but it would hurt the poor as well. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0360544218325738
  2. Looks like Greta is cashing in https://www.dw.com/en/greta-thunberg-seeks-to-trademark-her-name-and-movement/a-52192446?maca=en-rss-en-world-4025-xml-atom
  3. I said roughly. (that means about or almost or close to) in other words they were all Neolithic societies https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neolithic It is obvious that none of you have actually studied this in an academic sense and like BillV are equating religion to smoking, the black plague and driving an SUV. These aren't MY opinions. Hop on your google horse and learn about it for yourself. I know it can be confusing and downright scary when actual facts are in conflict with your world view, but hang in there tiger, it will be alright. Perhaps if I replaced "religion" with "culture" it would be less incendiary. After all "culture" sounds very secular and has nothing to do with religion. (just ask the Ayatollah)
  4. Not quite multi, and the DZ is a labor of love. I get to change peoples lives in a way that I never could in corporate banking. A person gives me a hug and tells me that I have changed their life, that never happen when I approved a $200,000 dollar loan. I cant describe the feeling I get when I look at my guys teaching a FJC, when it was just a short six years ago that I was teaching them.
  5. Given that religion is omnipresent across all cultures, and given that all Neolithic societies has roughly the same technology and resources, one of the only differentiating factors is religion. I encourage you to look into it yourself. Replace Romans with religion https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=what+have+the+romans+ever+done+for+us+monty+python
  6. Thank You! I never said that religion was good, I never said that religion prevented evil, I never said that one religion was better than another, (or no religion for that matter) I just said that it was part of the human condition. It is a matter of record that societies that worshiped an omnipotent and angry god developed faster than one that endowed trees and frogs with mystic properties.
  7. I never said that, I said that no civilization DID advanced without religion. Look, I am not proselytizing, I am just pointing out the well established archaeological and anthropological science, if that makes you butt hurt, (to borrow a phrase from Amazon) I'm sorry. Again I am simply pointing out the FACT that religion is part of the human condition and always has been (and given the hyperreligiosity of Climatism I expect it to continue into the future) To be fair, I did say that religion was pivotal in the development of civilization, largely because no civilization ever did.
  8. Speaking of no grasp of reality.....I'm still waiting for the US to plunge into recession by next month. Would you like to retract/modify your prognostication?
  9. Site me just one advanced civilization that was secular, just one. Just a single example from any of the hundreds of societies that transitioned from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age. Just one.....I'm waiting.....still nothing....?
  10. I never said they couldn't, they just didn't. Not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of fact
  11. Thank you for your informative and inciteful contribution to the conversation. I'll bet you didn't even read it.
  12. https://www.heartland.org/_template-assets/documents/publications/EnviHarmsPB.pdf Green new deal is not only impractical, it would also destroy the environment
  13. Dude I am out. Your lack of actual knowledge on the subject, your conflation of progress with peace, your preconceived notions, your failure to read links that underpin my point, and your obvious emotionality make it pointless to continue. You wear your Atheisms with a religious fervor that would make a Jehovah's Witness blush. Have a nice day.
  14. Pardon the expression but..., FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, JUST WHEN DID I EVER SAY ANYTHING ABOUT RELIGION BEING PEASEFULL?!?!?!?! Islam, of course, is the notable exception as it IS the religion of peace.
  15. We seem to be having psychological projection issues today.
  16. I'm pretty sure that substance abuse is demonstrably NOT a viable path to long term happiness and well-being
  17. OK now I get it. You seem to think that an advanced civilization is one that sits around the drum circle singing kumbaya. No, my point was that the evolvement of religion from one that worships rocks, frogs and trees to one that worships god/s was pivotal in the advancement of civilization. If you want to take a look at a society that still worships frogs and trees I give you this peace loving tribe https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yanomami (the frogs never gave them ten commandments)
  18. Absolutely nothing, where in the hell did I ever say anything like that?
  19. Neolithic being the gist of my point. Now we are sophisticated, modern, technologically advanced bunch of warring (sometimes) nation states. (although it is killing fewer people than in the past https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ongoing_armed_conflicts thanks to capitalism and global trade) Are you a guppy? No need to answer, it was a rhetorical question.
  20. Who said anything about war? I certainly didn't. The role of conflict on societal development deserves its own thread.
  21. 3. without religion we would still be wearing loin cloths and killing our neighbors with spears We will never know for sure because, in this case, a double blind study to prove one way or the other is a bit unpractical
  22. All true, none of that is even controversial. It is the arrival of an all seeing supernatural force* that "sees you when you're sleeping, knows when you're awake, knows if you've been bad or good so you better be good for goodness sake" which facilitated the coexistence of societal groups larger than the family, clan, or tribe. This is just boiler plate anthropology. Look, I am not making the case that religiosity is better that secularity (although there are studies that show religious folks are happier and have a higher level of phycological well-being), I am just saying religion is part of the human condition and always has been. *this was manifested in a variety of way across the globe
  23. I never said it could never happened any other way, I said, It hasn't happened any other way. Big difference
