Obviously your virtual panties have been bunched and your head is in the sand. Don’t be afraid, view the video. If I can read HuffPo and Daily Kos, you can look at something that may be in conflict with your worldview. (Or can you?) I look forward to your critique.

I think they call that narcissism. It fits Trump to a T.

A little video which sums it up quite nicely https://wattsupwiththat.com/2021/01/02/10-failed-predictions-video/ Before everyone gets their panties in a bunch, the video just lays out what the predictions were who made them and what actually happened. After viewing the video myself, I was reminded of the H.L. Mencken quote, “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” It is truer today than it ever was.

Sorry to break it to you but I don’t watch FOX(news) and I don’t support Trump.

Leave it to Speakers Corner to take a heart felt holiday salutation and devolve it into a....whatever this is. Anyway, happy new year folks!

I would humbly suggest that millions of tons of melting ice led to human scientists’ (is there another type?) discovery. (possessive plural is “s” apostrophe)
-
Not dummies just not privy to the latest information. ( December is more recent than March) “It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.” Mark Twain
-
Doesn’t mean it’s not and given that NASA and an international team of 89 polar scientists from 50 organizations missed it, it would only follow that is is a recent phenomenon.

I say the recent ice loss in Greenland coincides with the recent discovery of the “mantle plum”. If this is in fact contributing to Greenland’s ice loss, no amount of CO2 mitigation will effect it. No foreseeable warming will melt the Antarctic icecap (it is many tens of degrees below freezing), the Arctic ice is floating and its melting has no effect on sea level. That leaves Greenland. If it’s melting is due to a rising magma chamber there is nothing we can do about it, other than to employ that Neolithic technique of adaptation.

“There is mot much to discuss there. Iceland has been geologically active for a very long time. The Greenland ice sheets have started increasing their melt rate only recently.” Those are gowlerk’s words not mine. (Notice the quotation marks). More from the article: ”A team of researchers understands more about the melting of the Greenland ice sheet. They discovered a flow of hot rocks, known as a mantle plume, rising from the core-mantle boundary beneath central Greenland that melts the ice from below.” Who could have imagined that molten rock could melt ice? That could explain why Greenland is loosing ice while Antarctica is not.

BillV “They're not. In fact the absolute closest they get is ~200 miles. And the area that is melting most rapidly now is over 1000 miles away from Iceland. In fact it's a lot closer to Clyde River, Canada than Iceland. No volcanoes in Clyde River that I know of.” CygnusX-1 “That's practically on top of each other as seen from Mars.” gowlerk “I will assume then that you have nothing more than your feelings that this is kind of cool to go on.” “There is mot much to discuss there. Iceland has been geologically active for a very long time. The Greenland ice sheets have started increasing their melt rate only recently.” ”What? Me smile? I just had a quick peak at Google Earth. A glance tells me that Greenland and Iceland are about as close together as New York City and Chicago are. FWIW.” Now who wears the egg?

Wasn’t it just a month or so ago when a member (not me) suggested the possibility that Greenland may have some thermal activity due to its proximity to Iceland? As I recall they were roundly mocked by some other members, who now look quite foolish. “The research team discovered that the Greenland plume rose from the core-mantle boundary to the mantle transition zone beneath Greenland. The plume also has two branches in the lower mantle that feed into other plumes in the region, supplying heat to active regions in Iceland and Jan Mayen and the geothermal area in Svalbard” http://www.tohoku.ac.jp/en/press/greenland_plume_drive_thermal_activities.html

We lost all of our 16 inches of snow yesterday to 50 degree temps and an inch of rain. It is cold now and we have just enough of a dusting to call it a White Christmas

Merry Christmas and happy winter season to all of my friends and foils. May your 2021 be better than your 2020 (admittedly a low bar). That said, I truly wish all of my fellow skydivers the best!

No evidence that 2020 Hurricane season was record breaking https://www.scienceunderattack.com/ “Despite NOAA’s recognition of what has caused so many Atlantic storms in 2020, activists continue to claim that climate change is making hurricanes stronger and more destructive and increasing the likelihood of more frequent major hurricanes. Pontificates Michael “hockey stick” Mann: “The impacts of climate change are no longer subtle. We’re seeing them play out right now in the form of unprecedented wildfires out West and an unprecedented hurricane season back East.” Clearly, there’s no evidence for such nonsensical, unscientific statements.”

Hardly, I have been steadfastly on the side of science. ( real science) The fact that we have more polar bears and not fewer (as predicted by climate experts) is not my opinion, it is a fact. The reality that deserts are shrinking is not my opinion, it is a fact. Record food production is not my opinion, it is a fact. The 95% reduction in climate related deaths in the last hundred years, is not my opinion, it is a fact. I could go on but you get the idea

I’m sorry Wendy, but you could not be more wrong. Science is not politics. One doesn’t split the difference to preserve someone’s feelings. We didn’t compromise on the theory of relativity, plate tectonics, natural selection or the expanding universe. There were the disrupters and the losers, no middle ground. To the extent we mollycoddle the current crop of “experts” we do it to our detriment.

Did she insist that question be submitted in writing and in advance (before her lecture) and have her grad student minions screen out any difficult questions? Mind you, this was first and ONLY time questions were pre-screened in this setting. Mann has lost his defamation law suits, because he has ignored court orders to provide discovery. https://www.steynonline.com/10400/the-costs-of-mann-delay
