    just because i have 3 jumps doesn't mean i have less authority to talk to a new jumper about the experience than a person with 3,000. we were all there at one point and i'm sure we all remember what it felt like. __________________________________________________ I honestly wish I could tap into that sometimes. I'm sure every other T/I on here would like to remember what it felt like on their first jump. And we all get to experiance it for the first time, with every student! __________________________________________________

    but whenever i hear "THIS IS THE END, IT'S ARMAGEDDON", "MY LAST DAY ON EARTH!" Yeah, I know what you mean...but! I just love strapping macho types to my harness. Like others have said in this thread "When the door opens, and the breeze picks up all they want is Mommy". Also, I really have a lot of fun when some burly biker type (you know, tank top and "do rag" clad) asks me if I'm gay as I trace his harness straps. I tend to prance about, and speak (try to) feminine. It's all good man. __________________________________________________

    I remember! It's attached to the same place on the bridle as the primary. At the end of your bridle you should find a loop. Both P/C's attach there. Stack one on top of the other for launch. __________________________________________________

    I was off for 10 years. Took a refresher, made two jumps with an instructor then two solo's...then did a 4 way on my 5th. It's not quite like riding a bike, but it will all come back to you. Welcome back to the sport! __________________________________________________

    .One very important part you've left off your list. You may also want to ask if there has (or is) any variation in the gravitational pull, "Gravitational anomaly" if you will. You see, if the pull of gravity isn't the same strength, then you could have trouble getting down. All Skydivers rely upon this Newtonian principle to guide them to the dirt. Oh! And never, under any circumstances jump near a known Spiritual Vortex. Don't worry, it's all GOOD! __________________________________________________

    We teach it (Central Oregon Sky Sports) and recommend it over S/L because we feel that landing injuries are reduced for our first jump students. Also there is much less "Exit Anxiety" for the students. I find it to be more productive in the amount of information retained, due to the fact that school is in session throughout the entire jump. S/L students sometimes forget everything once the door opens, and repeat jumps are often necessary because of this. Just my $0.02 __________________________________________________

    I have done 3 with my S.O. on front. It's kinda cool knowing the person you're jumping with. She liked the Tandems, but she much prefers being on top. __________________________________________________

    The most difficult part of getting a Tandem Cert, is convincing your experianced friends to ride on front for you. Most licensed jumpers don't like leaving the plane with no handles. I'll ride with you. __________________________________________________

    it does not matter how many time you tell them to do this or not do that, the second they are off the plane it is the fight or flight mode and some just do not remember any of what they have been told. Kirk __________________________________________________ Right you are...thanks Kirk. We give a very good ground prep before we jump. But, as you said: "The second they are off the plane" everything they "know" is literally out the door! __________________________________________________

    No amount of force I was able to apply did anything to un-fuck that situation. Since you gave the "angry" face, I am assuming you think I fucked up; such is not the case. __________________________________________________ This is what I'm asking about. Thank you so much for sharing this. But now, I must ask the specifics of your drogue in tow 'function. Obviously you deployed your reserve. But what type of packing/equipment error was at fault to cause such an emergency? __________________________________________________

    I didn't read the whole thread, so sorry if this is a repeat. NEVER show fear or apprehension, your student will pick-up on it and feed off of it like a hungry gator. __________________________________________________ No need for apologies...in fact, you are the first to approach this specific area. Thank you. As one may expect, my comfort level directly translates to my student's enjoyment. And, their enjoyment is my job...I want them to come back, or at least tell their friends. __________________________________________________

    Right on Brian! One can not insure another jump, unless one makes a satisfactory landing! At my home DZ we have had a few of our S/L students that either forgot, could not hear the radio, or ignored ground commands...some required EMT removal. I would be first in your camp, to have students PROVE canopy proficiency PRIOR to being released for unsupervised freefall. Just my 1/2 cent. __________________________________________________

    Thank you Raff, I didn't even like having to do the required unstable exit...of course, I had a VERY experienced skydiver (AFF Instructor) on front. We did a single front loop, then stable as feather. I certainly wouldn't do it on purpose for a student. The humility that you, and the other TI's on here have shown me, makes me feel really good. I don't expect to be perfect, just good enough. One of the things I have going for me, is that I take this very serious. Going with someone on their very first skydive, should be taken seriously. I wonder though...why don't first time jumpers have to buy Beer?! ------------------------------------------------------------

    Ummm.... yeah Kirk, there are tons of threads dealing with Tandem. Trouble is: I can't sift through them all to get the spcifics I need. Anything you ever needed to know is on this site, in these forums. And, if you can't find it...just ask. __________________________________________________

    Kirk, Thank you for the heads up. Student body position IS one of the "wouldn't wanna be you" scenarios. I've heard of (and tried) the ankle lock bit, but like you said...it takes away lots of control, and does very little good.     Yeah, I did it...because I had to! It was part of my certification. I had to have a passenger (experienced) and jump from 11,500, go Drogue-less, and perform two alternate 360's (stop on heading)and practice pulls on ALL handles. Drogue was deployed by 7500' and released by 5500.' A VERY busy skydive! According to each of our FF computers, we reached a top speed of 204 MPH. and took a full 10 seconds to slow to 120. __________________________________________________

    Hello Everyone! These Forums have been very good to me, (thank you!) and I call upon you for help once again. I just earned my Tandem CERT, and have been hearing lots of horror stories about the "student from hell" and so on...What I want to ask is: What is the most common student caused concern I should prepare for? Tell me your worst, in vivid detail, and what action you took to correct it. I feel that Tandem is VERY serious, and NOT just another Skydive.
