  1. What's the worst malfunction? Oh, this is one I know! The worst malfunction, is MY malfunction! Did I win?
  2. 58 jumps in two years is not alot. Nor is 1000 in 28 years. The main thing the BSR's are trying to say is, to maintain currency, is to remain "familiar" with the equipment, EP's, canopy control and so on. These are (and should be considered) bare minimums, not a goal. To become proficient as a Skydiver, there is only one proven method...Jump. Jump a lot. As someone already mentioned, the most improvement will be gained by making a number of jumps back to back...it's tough to make one jump a month, "back to back"....
  3. Very good questions, and legitimate concerns. I have been buying (and selling) used gear off the Internet for some time now, and I've yet to be misled, lied to or ripped off. At the same time, I have tried to maintain a high degree of honor in all my transactions as well. One very good way I've found to ascertain the condition, and quality of a given piece of gear, is to have the seller send it to the manufacturer for inspection. Once the inspection is complete, the results can be conveyed to the prospective buyer...by the Manufacturer, NOT the seller. If it's "all good" then money is sent (to the seller) and the equipment is shipped from the factory to the buyer. PD has done this for me, as well as Sunpath, Precision, Aerodyne, RWS for a modest inspection fee...and shipping, of course. Also, make certain that you have the skills to use the equipment you buy. Let your experiance decide, not your enthusiasm!
  4. "I don't know your wing loading, canopy design, etc., etc., but others just reading this, and thinking this for themselves who could be under higher loaded elipticals for instance, need to be aware that there ARE indeed possible greater risks, and/or consequences if this is practiced inappropriately (or without either understanding and instruction)." __________________________________________________ Amen to that! I have a Vengeance (airlocked) and it does NOT delflate in a stall...it simply goes backwards. If, during recovery the toggles are not raised slowly, and evenly it will surge forward (read below you) and spin like a rotor! I have no video, but I can show you my underwear with the big bite taken out of the seat!
  5. One question you posed, made me chuckle! "How important is canopy control?" Hell, it's no more important than pulling.
  6. I generally just tell them that I've been doing pretty well, since the "Incident" Seriously though, thank you for the VERY well thought out routine. I plan to memorize as much of it as I can...and, with your permission, add a twist or two of my own.
  7. Thanks Man. I guess the point I'm trying to clear up is this: Should a Coach ("Very easy to get rating" "Only need a B and 100 J's...etc.") be expected to shell out the $18.00 to $22.00 to go be a stabilizer for a student, when they could be doing 4 way for the same amount of "fun" money? Or should the student that NEEDS coaching be expected to pay the Coaches fare? How selfless are these "pseudo" Instructors supposed to be? It's painfully obvious that many don't take a Coach's skills seriously...but should they always be charitable? That's all...
  8. "We just dipped the wing quickly. Enough times, and anyone would fall off" __________________________________________________ But, but...that might sceer me!
  9. Why, sure! A .410 gauge shotgun with snake shot is great for getting recalcitrant static line students to let go of the strut! Yippie-ki-yeah! __________________________________________________ You see, in Oregon that type of behavior just ain't P.C. and could get you in trouble with one of them Alphabet Agencies. So, what we do is cover the struts with cooking spray!
  10. Hi Aggie! I'm from Texas (a long ways from)! and I was wonderin'...do ya'll have gun racks in the back winder of yer plane too?
  11. Yeah, me too. I never have problems going to the classifieds, or gear ares...but the forums! Man, it's frustrating!
  12. Hi Tara! You are a VERY good canopy pilot, and an awesome skydiver. I know that there are some seriously good swoopers at your DZ too, and feel certain that they will try to lead you in the right direction. However, I also feel like you should read Brian Germain's book, "The Parachute and it's Pilot" for some real insight into becoming more proficient. I have a copy I will gladly loan you. Pigpen
  13. Ok, I admit, I laughed. But c'mon, I'm sure U get some fat-ass men, too!! Don't U have smart-ass names for them, too? Sure do...most of 'em are named "Bubba" some are called "Tiny" and, sometimes they're called " That one's yours"....
  14. They go home, I keep their money, they come back sober, they make their jump. No exceptions.
  15. "The question in my mind is that if they've offered to jump with me for slots are they then saying that they're offering to jump with me for free?" No, they are saying they will jump with you for the price of their ticket. Nothing more, nothing less.
  16. "I'm just not sure if they have offered out of kindness and welcoming newbies into the sport or if they genuinely mean they want to help me out with my training." __________________________________________________ Hi There! I for one, got into Coaching and Instructing to give a little back to the sport. Unfortunately, "giving back" can cost a lot! It's to the point now (at our DZ) that students expect the Coaches to just pay their own way for the privilege of teaching them. Not a good arrangement. Sure, a Coach "only needs a B license" but they also had hotel expenses and the cost of meals at their Coach Course, paid for all the evaluation jumps for themselves and evaluators. Bought texts and other class material, and paid for the course. Personally, I spent over $500.00 for the three days (I made practice jumps too though). The least you could do is pay for their slot. Some don't even think that's fair! Just my $.02
  17. Hello Ed, If you would, please refer to SIM section 4 Cat. E as this is the beginning of the Coaches area of instruction. As it is set up, the Coach continues on with the Student's training through Cat. H, and on up to their licensing. The Students that we train (Individual results may vary) are also brought along on 4 ways as their skills permit. __________________________________________________
  18. "I used a Spectre for the last 15 of my student jumps. So did the rest of my fellow students. Why would it not be used for students? " __________________________________________________ It's not up to me to decide whether or not PD's recommendations for student use of their canopies is too conservative. It is up to me to appreciate the knowledge base they are drawing from, and it is also up to me to pass this on. Too many new jumpers are wearing plaster (or worse) because of the "it should be okay for you" syndrome. We all need to pay more attention. __________________________________________________
  19. Hello everyone! Need to get a better demographic sample on what Coaches (USPA Rated) are charging for training jumps in various locations. At our DZ. we have three very good Coaches who have (up to this point) gone unpaid for their efforts. Thank you for your input. __________________________________________________
  20. PD does not recommend the Spectre for student use. For novice jumpers PD suggests a wing load of 0.9 : 1.0 or, in your case at 190 lb. exit, you (as a novice, not a student) would need a Spectre 210. Please, you must try to adhere to these guidelines until your experience catches up to your enthusiasm! __________________________________________________
  21. I cannot thank you enough for this! I too thought that I was "just getting old" and needed to step up my workout routine.
  22. as for the technical aspect: which tandem-systems do you use? are all systems suitable for tandem-progression? __________________________________________________ We use the RWS Vector System, but they're all (Sigma, Strong, Jump Shack) pretty simular and suitable for Tandem Progression. ______________________________________________+__
  23. I have two words for you...PD __________________________________________________
  24. That is what Saddam Hussein used to do. I guess he wasn´t that bad, eh? __________________________________________________ Good Ole Saddam...heh, heh. He never grasped the concept, that execution and murder are two different things. Slaughter for sport is NOT what I'm talking about. Punishment for crimes committed was public in this country too (USA) during the last century. __________________________________________________
  25. I for one am glad to see that this piece of shit is going to die. Anyone know what form of execution it's going to be? __________________________________________________ I agree that Scott should forfeit his life for this atrocity. But, I feel that the death penalty would be a much more effective deterrent if it were conducted in public or even broadcast on network TV. __________________________________________________
