I'm almost afraid to ask why you remember... Interestingly, I have it written as Tieghtal. I have no idea which is correct though; I may have written it from her saying it rather than spelling it. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519

I remember the magic forrest with fondness. I can't remember the guy's name I used to hang with there, maybe someone else can help with that. He was in charge of the grounds at Tampa International Airport. Rog - that was Kurt 'Capn'n Kirk' Johnson, who hung out with Chip McCloskey and Peter Gabrial (who painted the first rainbow Z'hills on the old building.) Now, as to the identity of the lady, I'm intrigued. Hoop Wow Hoop, between the several of us that frequent these forums, I think we almost make up one good brain

Anyway, I got laid there by a pretty young student from Orlando that I had no idea had any interest in me, but my friend told me early in the evening that it was gonna happen

Hey Tuna, I don't have an address, but basically you get off the Interstate at Bearss Ave., go one block West, turn right on N. Florida Ave. and go about 1 mile or so North. The Magic Forrest (was a Nursery with some houses in it as I recall) is on the right (if still there). ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519

Ever Static Line A Para-Commander?

We used them at Miami Glider Port in 74/75. I never jumped one, but certainly dropped a number of students using them. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519 -
Hoop, I certainly saw a few people playing that game when I got to Z-Hills in '73. As a non-drinker, I found it most entertaining. And, it's the game that keeps on giving, since the next morning you could see the participants playing another game where most of the previous nights intake was ejected rather violently. I only saw Dead Ants played at that resteraunt/bar we used to go to north of Z-Hills on the way to Dade City. Valleyview was it? For some reason, even though I was the non-drinker there, I kept hitting the floor along with everyone else ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519

Yeah, that's the Woodbine in MD. I jumped there in 1974 and was 8th in their first ever 8 man star. They had been planning the jump for weeks, arranging to have the 2nd aircraft and all. We got it on the first attempt, 7 SCRs and 1 SCS. I also jumped at the Sod Farm in Brandon (Owned by Cliff and Patty Dobson) quite a bit that you mentioned and the Top of Tampa DZ that Hoop mentioned. Another defunct DZ in MD not mentioned was Downsville, a small 4-way stop sign town next to Hagerstown. I jumped in Rainbow WI also. When I went up there to put students out, it was just referred to as Rainbow... Lets see, I think every DZ I jumped at is gone except Deland. Z-Hill Commercial Center (Still a Z-Hills, but at least 2 removed from the center I worked at). Deland (Still going). Sod Farm in Brandon. Top of Tampa at State Road 54 and I-75 Hinkley, IL Downsville, MD Woodbine, MD Sturgis, MI South Bend, IN I don't think any of the other places I jumped were regular DZ operations like the Richmond Boogie and maybe South Bend where we had a big meet that Roger Nelson organized. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519

Only if you drive at 110 mph! Give Palatka a call on 386 328 0606 and talk to Art, I think they're open Fri - Sun. Ok, just over an hour. Traffic on I95 generally goes about 80mph in that area and the distance is roughly 90 miles... Choosing between Palatka and Deland for mid-week jumping... easy choice for me. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519

I don't have any info to add on Palatka, but Deland is only an hour south of Jacksonville... ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519

From the photo's caption: So, we're actually talking about PARACHURTING here, not PARACHUTING anyway... I guess parachurting is unmanned parachuting; who knew? ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519 -
That address is correct. A new site is underway but is still in the startup/build phase. You can download a pdf application from here: http://www.starcrestawards.com/images/stories/forms/scrapplication08.pdf I'll post here when the site goes active. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519

Just got an email from Bill today. The site should be available again in 2 to 3 days. In all probability it will be a different url and I will post the link when it goes live. I'll post the same information to the SCR thread in the History and Trivia forum as well. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519

It has nothing to do with not paying the bill, at least for Bill. Anyway, the site will be available again soon and I'll post the information as soon as Bill lets me know it's ready. For those that don't know me, I do the database updates on the site for Bill. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519

How long did it take you to TRULY get into the sport?
RogerRamjet replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in The Bonfire
I was in before I could jump. I went out to Z-Hills in 1973 with my older brother (he was 25 and I was 20). He jumped that weekend, but the legal age in Florida at the time was 21, so I could not jump. My parents said "no way are we signing a waiver to let you jump out of an airplane." So, I went out every weekend and watched my brother jump until I learned to pack the T-10 student rigs. I learned to rig over the next few months and got my riggers license and started packing for the DZ. On July 1st, 1973, the legal age was lowered to 18 in Florida and I made my first jump that day. I made 250 jumps my first year which was quite a lot in those days (of piston engine only jump planes). I packed all my mains and when I got off student status, my reserve as well (my reserve had no AOD*, so I had to use DZ gear until off student status which had Sentinals). *In those days, AAD (Automatic Activation Device) devices were called AOD (Automatic Opening Device). They were considered not so reliable especially for relative work, so most jumpers did not use them after student status... Yeah, I was into it from before my first jump ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519 -
Hi John, Bill is fully aware of the issue. He is working on a solution as fast a possible. If you need to send Bill something private, PM me and I'll give you his email address (not the same as the site email address which is part of the site and therefor down as well). ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519

Doesn't ring any bells. I'm better with faces than names though... I think Hoop is off on one of his research trips, so might not hear from him for a week or three. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519

I can't believe it; I was on the load and remember your back flip vividly! You did come pretty close to the horizontal stab, though I don't remember that it was "inches." Seems like it was a foot or two to me. In the tight tuck you had, not much wind resistance compared to a poised exit. Man I love this forum

Mark, Hooper dropped by??? I can't believe he's in the US and didn't drop me an email. I could have been there yesterday and of course I know every one of those you mentioned. It does make your head spin a bit; quite a group there (you included)! ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519

I get the same thing. I'll check with Bill and have him contact the webmaster, maybe he hasn't paid a fee or something... I'll post back here when he responds. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519

So what is this vintage military gear?
RogerRamjet replied to SEREJumper's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
I don't think it is though. The one I got with mine (I had the first production Strato Star in Florida) had a similar bungie cord to pull the pack open, but had one on each SIDE of the pack, not a single one on the bottom. I don't remember any of that webbing on mine either. Also, I never saw any Strato Star container in OD. I suppose there could have been more than one design for it though. Mine went straight into my Wonderhog, so I never spent a lot of time with the "container" it came with. ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519 -
Hi Pat, every word true! I have both the SCR and SCS. I trained students, put them out, talked them down, etc., at one of the largest DZs around (Z-Hills), but never had a USPA license... And your book "United We Fall." 30 years after you and Jan wrote that thing, I find out I'm mentioned in it (chapter 5, Pre-Stars, hey man, you're late). It's really fun to read through it now and remember those who wrote it and how cool a time it was... Thanks! ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519

Hi Mark, You're welcome. It's a small thing I can give back to the sport I enjoyed so much

Hi Wendy, Tell me the number and what's wrong with the entry and I will fix it for you and send the update to Bill so it gets into the source data (in case he sends me the whole thing again which has wiped out some updates in the past). ----------------------- Roger "Ramjet" Clark FB# 271, SCR 3245, SCS 1519
