G7 Talks to Cancel 100% of 3rd World Debt
dropoutdave replied to dropoutdave's topic in Speakers Corner
Valid point. Maybe they would if they were given the chance to be educated etc. Good point! Didn't think of it that way. Should have been there is no reason for people who aren't given the chance to gop hungry, or something like that. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces...... -
G7 Talks to Cancel 100% of 3rd World Debt
dropoutdave replied to dropoutdave's topic in Speakers Corner
I never said anything about over population not being a big problem. The planet is over populated - fact, not disputing that but there are MANY factors that lead to poverty in the 3rd World. Simply saying that these people need to be educated about birth control is easier said than done. Over 2 million children die of diarrheal diseases every year due to the lack of access to clean drinking water, when you don't know when your next going to eat or drink someone coming upto you and saying "You should have used a condom" is not going to make a great deal of difference. By cancelling debt to the countries that pass whatever criteria it is they are setting (I never said I supported giving debt relief to corrupt governments btw) they can then start putting more money into health care, education, clothing and housing the poor rather than the majority of the country's income going on trying make debt repayments which they will never be able to pay off. The cycle needs to be broken otherwise there will never be a solution to the problem. There is NOT ONE reason why there should be a single person going hungry on this planet. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces...... -

G7 Talks to Cancel 100% of 3rd World Debt

That's why they are talking about doing it on a case-by-case basis so corrupt governtments don't recieve this benefit. Because they can't! With the help of trade restrictions, the IMF, the WTO and the World Bank they are in an endless cycle of debt. Look into Free Trade. So, with.... "Nearly 800 million people do not get enough food, and about 500 million people are chronically malnourished. More than a third of children are malnourished." "1.2 billion people live without access to safe drinking water." "852 million people across the world are hungry, up from 842 million a year ago." "In the developing world, more than 1.2 billion people currently live below the international poverty line, earning less than $1 per day." ...and your answer is...fuck em all?? Well I sure am glad not everyone takes that stance. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces...... -

On my way home from school when I was a kid I was sat downstairs on the bus (see pic below) and just as we were pulling upto a stop I heard a scream and a girl about 16 came rolling down the stairs, proper arse over tit! She hit the floor at the bottom of the stairs in front of about 40 people and lay there for a while and then got up holding her arm and wandered to the front ofthe bus. The bus driver asked her if she was ok and she said yes and then tripped on the step on the way off the bus and landed on the pavement flat on her face. Noone could believe what they just saw and the bus driver just closed the door and drove off at which point the whole bus, full of school kids, started laughing like crazy! Sounds cruel now I look back on it that noone helped her and the bus driver leaving her face down on the pavement but my god was it funny!!! Not my most humiliating experience obviously but by far the most humiliating experience i've ever seen! hehe still makes me chuckle thinking about it. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......

All in good faith bro, just trying to get more of an understanding of you crazy folk! Haven't got a clue dude, I thought it was the "What's your favourite condiment?" thread. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......

When you say most do you mean more than half of all gun owners in the US primarily have guns for hunting? That seems like one hell of alot of hunting going on over there! Apologies for all the questions but you aint gonna learn shit if you don't ask right. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......

My bad, should have said 'the vast majority' rather than 'as a whole'. This write up pretty much sums up the feeling of guns in this country. http://www.mwillett.org/Politics/guns.htm ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......

Interesting stats. Why is there such a big issue about people wanting to keep their guns at home if they are just for hunting other than for convenience? Also isn't a pretty big issue about if its in a locked cabinet they wont be able to use it in time if someone enters their home etc? ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......

I'm confused about this bit too, eh? ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......
-
Yeah what you said. It's the same here, I know not one person that would have bennifited from having a gun or that has ever felt the need to own a gun to feel safe. The only people that I have EVER known that would kick up a storm if they had their guns taken off them are farmers that use rifles to shoot rabbits and hares etc. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......
-
Interesting stats. Newsflash: As a whole, we don't give a shit about guns in this country, they can take em away from us, wave them in front of us and stick it up their arses. We don't feel like we've been punished and we aren't crying about the right to own a gun taken away from us. You need to understand the culture difference before you can understand the politics in the country. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......

I read something the other day about some pro-lifers that have their cats snipped, oh the hypocrisy. hehe ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......

But how you don't see people posting statistics on how likely you are to be in a fatal accident and how we should all take better measures to ensure our safety do you? We accept the risk of driving and get on with it which is IMO stupid considering 2 people die every minute from car accidents! Puts this whole gun argument into perspective a bit i think. Likewise with this, I don't see people posting statistics on this to say we should be better prepared in case of a house fire. We know the risks and get on with it. Same again. It's not always as black and white as you seem to like to make it. There's being prepared and there's being paranoid. Considering the chances of some maniac entering our homes wanting to kill us all I think there's a bit more to it than just 'being prepared' when it comes to guns. Your more likely to die of many more things than some psycho attacking you, people should campaign about those instead and put their energies to better use. Out of curiosity, how many innocent people die every minute from people entering their homes and murdering them or from people being attacked on the streets. Not talking about gang/drug related murders here. I may be wrong but I would hasten a guess that it's less than 2 a minute? Peace ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......

hahahaha I can just imagine it. What ever happened to all the hippys? ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......

Yeah there is alot of money out there that could be used. I don't know why but with the amount of money that oils companys make I get an uneasy feeling in giving them tax breaks. Where do you draw the line between the oil companies, businesses and indivduals responsibilities regarding CO2 emissions? Interesting times. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......
-
Yeah you would think so wouldn't ya but that just makes too much sense. From what i've read we are too close to a 'possible point of no return' regarding CO2 emissions for the planting of trees to have a big enough effect. Would still like to see it done though, we could do with all the help we can get at the moment. Good point, they said one of the problems is sealing the CO2 in. Not going to do us much good of if they start spitting it back out at us. That would be karma for you! ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......
-
Yeah its not going to be cheap. I haven't any figures yet but would tax relief on the last bit of oil that would be pumped out be enough to cover it ya think? Just wondering what kind of tax relief the oil companys are talking about, whether it's just on the oil that the CO2 could pump out or just tax relief in general. I read somewhere that it has already been done in Texas I believe. Still trying to find more info on it. Cost aside, if there is a way for this to work then it could be the biggest step towards saving our asses on this planet. Plant trees on oil rigs too. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......

Ah well. that one didn't last too long! Trees it is then!! ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......
