On the other hand, many people do believe strongly in the Bible. So if the people you are addressing are in that group, then the quote can have more impact than if you just use your own words. . There is nothing wrong with that. Personally, I am not biased against the Bible, or what it stands for AT ALL. I've never stated my personal beliefs and whether or not I am religious, pious, spiritual or whether I read and believe in the Holy Bible myself. Furthermore, I think that the teachings of Jesus Christ are beautiful and wise. The Old Testament also has so much to teach us. I find no fault in people who live by the Bible's teachings, and I have no problem with whatever religion that someone may or may not be. I just do not wish to influence others or to insult others who have a different religion by quoting something to someone who doesn't believe in that particular religion or who doesn't take the Bible as gospel. I would never hesitate to quote from the Bible, when speaking to my mother or grandmother, because I know that they sometimes like to use religious sayings, but I would prefer to use my own words when speaking to the general public. I find it to be more inclusive of everyone. ***Some people will pay more respect to a quote from a famous person, than from the everyday person. I do not like that way of thinking. I understand what you mean, but I would rather make my point through my own words.

I don't think so. Your personal, subjective and biased viewpoints on someone else's moral character does not make your statement into a hard FACT. I was LMAO, though, at your last post. Finally, you said what you've been wanting to say! Sadly, that only makes your initial post and argument look worse and worse. I'm glad that you feel better, though. -
Like what? Is Airspeed available for coaching?

I understand that people have a right to say or to write what they believe. Still, I do not understand why some people choose to contribute to a discussion or answer a question by quoting or taking a passage from the bible (or similar "Holy Book"). Why not just answer with one's own unique words and with our own thoughts. Why not think for oneself and open our minds to our own verbal interpretation of our ideals? I'm not saying that it's not wrong to quote the bible, but it can be viewed as pushing your beliefs onto someone else when you answer someone with a bible passage or quote. By the way, I honestly have nothing against anyone's personal beliefs. (I was raised a somewhat strict Catholic, myself.) I just feel that sometimes people could answer a question more effectively by simply using their own words.

Lol...I've been lurking here before, but I usually don't feel the urge to contribute any more to the discussions. Believe it or not, I'd rather not discuss certain things online. Yet, this thread's original tone really bothered me. Not that I have a problem with Funks, I just felt that for anyone to condemn or judge anyone's donations or assistance in this situation is just going too far. I hope that $10,000 gets put to good use. -
Thank you, Chris, but that would be kind-of scary because I would be using the stall!

Oh Chris...I opened your attachment and laughed because of what the picture looked like to me. I doodled on your original drawing, then read your post and laughed some more at my doodle. (See my attachment.) (P.S. I'm not a guy, so I have no idea what goe on in the men's room, nor do I particularly want to know. [Sorry! ] Good luck figuring out the proper "protocol"!)

Believe it or not, it's too big!!!

Great selling technique, Mar! Btw, well-done to everyone who was involved in the making of the calendar. I know that there were MANY DZ.commers who dedicated much of their time and talents.

VanillaSkyGirl replied to funks's topic in Speakers Corner
That is a hypothetical question, not a reality. I react to the real world, not to a "what if", so I am not answering your "what if". That's almost as bad as people who say "I could have" or "I would have", but they actually didn't and probably never will. Furthermore, I actually don't care to judge someone based on what he or she donates. Charity and donations are something that people should be doing for the greater good of others, not because it validates them as a person or makes them superior to others who do not donate. It is something that is nobody else's business. Sorry if I am not interested in"policing" people's donations or in finding out their net worth. If you are so unhappy with how much others have not helped enough monetarily, then do something about it yourself. Find a way to send more funds or to get involved in raising more money for the tsunami victims. By the way, I personally had close friends die in Sri Lanka. One of them was there for 2 years to teach music to underpriviledged kids. Her parents were visiting her during the holidays. They are all originally from Sri Lanka, but they currently lived in the United States. They were well-off finacially and socially by any standards in the US, but I still found that what the daughter was doing was quite admirable. Don't you? Being better-off than another does not mean that your good deeds or financial donations should be expected or mocked or questioned. Just like it's not right to judge someone without $$$, it's equally wrong to judge someone who is better off financially or socially than we are. It's impossible to know what is in another man's heart. -

This thread is unbelievable. To begin a thread merely to complain about how someone's donation(s) don't measure up to your particular ideals of what someone else should or shouldn't donate is actually more sad than anything. It is so sad that people fail to see the bigger picture and choose to be upset and angered by kind acts, trying to find ANY flaw in a good deed. Funks, why choose to see what you perceive as negativity in other people? Or, is this simply because you seem to (by your replies) have a bias against Bush? It seems like no matter what Bush does, he will never be "good enough" or "for the right reasons". How dare you or anyone else judge someone else's good intentions? If Bush's donation made even ONE person donate or donate more to this cause, then it's worth it. Do you at least agree with that? By the way, if Bush had donated much, much more, like what you say that you would have done, then people would still say negative things, like how he was "showing off" or doing it for the "publicity" or to look like he cares. It's a no-win situation. Even the kindest acts can be twisted for interpretation by people's own perceptions. It is telling not of the president and what his "agenda" or intentions may be, it is more telling of people's own mindset and their own judgmental attitudes, in general. -
Kevin, I think that I owe you a slap across the face.

I'll come measure your inseam!! You know, I used to design men's clothing, and I can usually tell a man's inseam just by glancing at him. -
Sunny, about the "BEER" comment. It was a well-meaning joke, but I thought about it and hope it didn't sound like I was making fun of you. You know that I love ya and didn't mean it in a malicious way, right? I'm sorry. Hope you're not mad!

I was just going to type: "I think that's sooo COOL!!! Does that make me a total dork?" I love looking at other people's comic and collectors' stuff, but I do not follow it myself. One of the reasons that I loved the movie "Unbreakable" so much was the storyline...VERY COOL and unique concept. I just LOVED that.
