I'll second that. Jan Arvik as pilot.
-
I've gotten out of these in CA a bunch of times. I plead not guilty in court, don't ask for a speedy trial, then continually delay and move the court date at the last minute as many times as I can. In most cases, after six months, they don't have their notes any more or are just too lazy to show up. I removed the front plate of my car also, as that's the one that is mostly caught on the camera. It's a ticketable offense in a lot of states, but you'd be very unlucky to get one. I have a friend who has a plate from a junker on the front that is different from the one on the back. It's never been noticed. The cops never run the front plate, and they never think to run both against each other. Also, if you get tagged by an airplane and stopped by the car on the ground, always contest it, as both the pilot and the ticketing cop have to turn up. I've never seen a pilot cop turn up in court for a hearing. Instant dismissal. My last ticket was like that. If you speed over the Altamont pass on the way to Byron, you'll get hit by the airplane every time. There's a book I bought a few years back called How to Get Out of a Ticket in CA. It's paid for itself tens of times over. If one exists in your state, I suggest a purchase. A few years back, I was at a DZ somewhere I shall not name, when one of these cop planes landed for fuel and for the pilot to use the bathroom. Funnily enough, when he came out, he couldn't seem to find the keys to the plane. How careless of him.

So you're a Sparks fan huh ? Actually, this is off their best album. I talk to the bass player off that Album, Martin Gordon, from time to time about Rickenbackers and things. He's still releasing albums under his own name and just reformed with his old band Radio Stars for a few gigs in London. http://www.martingordon.de

It's from the Irish Parachute Club. It's a pint of Guinness. I can't remember what exactly it's awarded for, but I suspect I got it once

That's OK. I'm just happy I finally got one of these right

Cons - Sacramento is a shithole. Pros - Er. I'll get back to you.

Well, shoot a PM to riggermick He's the guy that designed the Reflex and owned the company. He posts here regularly. I had two of them. You can install the reserve with or without the catapult system. The pop top is not like a Racer in that it has one pin and a different quick loop, and there's a trick to snugging it all down nicely. Also, have a rigger check the seating of all grommets on the rig and for general wear. If it's all good to go, there's nothing wrong with them at all.

Err.. everyone in the second picture (plane10) is from the (now-defunct) Turners Falls, MA DZ. HW It's still Wally though. That little bugger got around. He worked for Sunshine Factory back then, and went to all the boogies.

It's Z Hills 88-89, and it's the Southern Cross DC-3 if I'm not mistaken. If it's not, it's Lucaya Air. Indeed that is Lukas Knutsson (RIP) and Craig Buxton. I can even tell you that Lukas is jumping a Glidepath Hummingbird there too. In the second photo, that's Wally Futryk with the handlebar mustache and dashing white neckerchief. He's still jumping at the Hills too. If I look long enough, I'm sure some of other names will come back to me. In the second photo, I think that guy on the right's name in Grant. He used to love cutaways if it is him. He regarded them as an extra treat for your jump. A strange fellow indeed. 89 was my favorite year at the Hills before Skydive City opened. The flight line was Southern Cross, Lucaya Air, Mr.D and Our Douglas, along with the newly aquired CASA. I was in Mr.D when it lost a jug on rotation. Mark took it off, flew it around and landed it on the good motor, and we ran out of it and straight into Lucaya Air which had seen it happen and was warming up all ready. You don't see that these days do you ?

Firstly, Skydive San Francisco is about the furthest dropzone away from San Francisco, as it's way up in the Russian River valley at Cloverdale. It's also a Cessna dropzone, more concerned with tandems, not that there's anything wrong with that. They don't have a lot of fun jumpers there as a rule, though that may have changed. Also, call before going up there, as they have been shut on one or more weekends recently because of some issues they have been having with staffing. Byron took on their tandem bookings the weekend before last because they were shut. It's a nice day out to drive up there and take in some wineries, but if you're looking for a little more action and larger planes, Skydance at Davis, Bay Area Skydiving at Byron, and Lodi are all turbine drop zones and closer. There is also Hollister and Skydive Monterey in the south bay, both turbine drop zones. All are driving distance from the city, so you wouldn't need to camp.

What canopy is this # what ever
gjhdiver replied to stratostar's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
PDF Turbo was like that too. No packing tabs either. -
I dunno, but he's got a Jaguar XJS.
-
Hell, if could pull down $4500 an hour for banging frustrated housewives, I wouldn't be seen much at the drop zone either.

Well, I may never have jumped at that airstrip, but at least Ive got plenty of jumps out of that little puppy. It's MI-17 if I'm not mistaken.

Bill Dause is under the chopping block!!
gjhdiver replied to ts1962's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What are these things you call tickets ? You mean people actually pay for jumps ? Whatever next ? I'm somewhat ashamed to say I haven't made a jump at Lodi in a couple of years, so I don't have a clue what's on the back of the ticket, not that I ever read it anyway. The last time I went in December, it was raining, so we went drinking as instead, which doesn't require a waiver, but probably should. Bill's like teflon though, he's had worse come at him in the past and come out the other side. Anyone remember when the IRS raided him and flew off his P51, just after someone broke into his house, beat him up and stole all his money ? They were writing his obituary then, but he's still there, and the P51 is back in the hanger. I suspect he'll get past this too. -

There is no waiver at Lodi. It's not a USPA dropzone, and Bill has never required that a sport jumper sign any release or waiver before jumping. There is a small blurb on the back of the jump ticket, like what you see on the back of a parking garage receipt, but that's the extent of it. -

What is this canopy release? #2
gjhdiver replied to howardwhite's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Oh these thing were just friggin' peachy in the UK. In the summer, if they got crap in them or started to wear out, they would release on a random basis, and in the winter when they got moisture on them from packing on the grass and you went to altitude with them, they would freeze up solid and you couldn't shift 'em. Made me the man I am today it did -
I was on it. That's an important fact for you right there.

Damn. One day I'll get one of these right. That picture of your was always described to me as a Boothwell. I've never seen the one you say is a Boothwell. You learn something new every day, and that's annoying. I don't have any more room left for it. -
I live in Berkeley less than a mile from the recruiting station, and Code Pink's headquarters in about five blocks from my house. I drive by the recruiting office most days and see them there. Most of the time, the reaction to them from the locals is positive. I'd say about 85% so. The real anger comes form outside the community. A huge amount of the pro military demonstrators this week were bussed in from around the country. Now they have gone back to wherever they came from. Personally, as a war hating liberal atheist, I think it's all rather silly and a waste of time from Code PInk on up to talk radio getting all exercised over it. Code Pink play into every negative stereotype that people have of Berkeley, when the fact is that we're just a nice quiet college town full of students, liberals, and good record stores. If Code Pink packed up and left tomorrow, no-one would go to that recruiting station anyway in any larger numbers than they do now. They recruited like 30 last year. One a wider note, Berkeley votes in the council it wants, and now people who don't live here want to punish it for reflecting the views of the local electorate that voted for it. That's our job here if we don't like them. We don't come to your communities in conservative areas and try to fart about with your federal dollars over the various idiocies of your local representatives. We'll deal with them in the next local elections if that's the mood of the community. So in closing. Code Pink, you're not helping. Everyone else, bug out and let it play out locally. As for the Marines, I'm sure they don't care.

I believe this is what we used to call a Boothwell. Designed by Bill Booth obviously. Had one on a club cloud back in the day. Pre-runner of the 3-ring from Bill. -
If there's one fault of dropzone.com, (and there's many), it's taking itself way too seriously. This is one more instance of it.
