Contact the maker or US supplier at SSK Industries...info@SSKinc.com Expect to get really informed with consistent information through them...........anything else will not suit your purpose or the circumstances that you feel are important to you...... Upon learning what you need to know, perhaps you will become a mentor to others that follow...... Cheers mate, BUDDHA

You may not like what you hear, however, knowledge and experience isn't always convienent....However it is consistent.! Unpack your canopies, fluff, air overnight, remove all rubberbands, flake canopies, daisychain lines and roll canopies.......store in separate plastic bags with dessicant for moisture.......(Remember to isolate metal parts where possible) Airdry your container, brush, vaccum soiled areas, lubricate ripcord and riser cutaway cables......coil these separately along with your reserve PC and bridle freebag. (Isolate your AAD where the batteries are and be sure to bag it separately.......) Pack these parts in a separate plastic bag with dessicant for moisture. Fold up your container on natural folds and put into plastic bag with dessicant for moisture Make every effort to isolate metal parts from fabric. Now you have three plastic bags all nice and bundled, (still attached by the risers)........ Find a nice cool place up on a shelf in the dark of a closet or such and put the 3-bundle up there......... Before your task is done, you might write down all the serial numbers, conditions of components, model numbers and descriptions of any thing you notice that is unusual..Date and sign the paper and keep it separate from your gear......... When you return and wish to reinstate your gear to jumping condition, whom ever you select will have a better opportunity to evaluate your gear and recertify it's airworthiness. Nylon is ADSORBIC..........it will draw any moisture from it's environment........and pool it.........moisture leads to bacteria > leads to mold > > and by the time you smell musty mildew..... If you have any doubts or concerns about this information, you may look it up in any Rigger's Manual........or in the Owner's manual's of reputable manufacturer's under maintenance....... Good luck on your work venture and look forward to your return to the fold......safe, more knowledgable and ready to fly... Cheers mate, CRWBUDDHA

Hey person with less than what it takes to get what you want....... Contact WWW.RelativeWorkshop.com read through the options on any of the container orderforms regarding risers Pick the ones you want........$105-$115.00 Clean up your act considerably before you contact Dorthy Webster by fax and ask what she will require you to do to purchase the risers you seek.... Follow her instructions. One liners and stupid remarks will get you a terminal illness about your face and head.....I suggest you become humble very quick ......... Any one can make a mistake, some just press their luck until they recieve an attitude adjustment......... Nes Pau? -
Perhaps you will consider the obvious and contact the maker in Deland........What do you want to bet that they know what and how to do them? You'll be glad you did.....! 1-386-736-7589 Cheers mate, BUDDHA

Congratulations on your first jump and passing to the next level of awareness.........If this is what you want, feel free to give it your best effort, ......You'll be glad you did. Years ago, when I was where you are right now, the instructor told me something that might be just what you may find helpful......."Don't think, just do." Believe it or not, this has stayed with me some 18 years of jumping and on regular occassion, it returns to me..........Hey, you've been taught what you need to know, you've practiced it over and over........NOW, DON'T THINK, JUST DO....! Perhaps you will find this little bit of wisdom helpful and maybe one day, you will mentor another in a similar manner. Best of awareness, attitude, altitude and above all the JOY OF SOARING WITH THE EAGLES...... Welcome to the world and the excitement that awaits upon your journey....... Cheers, CRWBUDDHA

Well now then, It seems that once again, marketing and opinions as well as testimonials have entered the realm of reasonable question and the pool of knowledge is cloudy. Technically, an AAD will only release the pin or pins that hold your emergency canopy in place within your container. The older styles actually pulled or pushed the pin from the closing loop. The newer styles cut the special loop supplied by their makers. Whether the AAD does what anyone expects on any given chance of circumstances, can never be a certainty as there is no technology that has that ability. If you are really interested about the risk factor, and how it may or not affect you and your family, you may very well entertain the following query.... A very famous British Philosopher once stated , "How many lifeboats are you going to put in your lifeboats?" I would suggest that you consider what's really important to you and do what you need to do to achieve that end. A discussion about anyones personal views on AAD's will only serve to cloud issues of a general nature and probably have nothing to do with those personal issues of importance to you. Contact the makers directly and inquire about their products from an ethical and a technical view point........Get educated to the hilt perhaps then you will have gained the insight you lack thus far to make your decision. Until that time when your decision is final, I hope that you donot fall prey to the falacies of instant gratification and you actually go out and gather facts that you have identified, as important to you.. Perhaps then, you might become a mentor to those around you to help them through a similar delima. Cheers and continued learning along your quest for knowledge....... CRWBUDDHA

Hey Andy, As you are involved in your training, why not finish that first and accept the fact that you must crawl before you can walk. If you cannot hold your patience and give your complete and utter attention to your instructor and the DZ and your training, crawling as it may be, how long do you actually think you will progress in CRW or any jumping descipline, all of which require perfect practice to become perfect. You might be well advised to present your desires and interests to your DZ and instructor AFTER you have demonstrated that they have done their task well and you can demonstrate everything they taught you, PERFECTLY, EVERY TIME, NO MATTER WHAT THE CONDITIONS. Perhaps when you recall your lifes education thus far, you will remember that you learned every skill you have from the square one position up to the present..though you may have wished to jump around and change the disciplines yourself, I think you will agree that your instructors didn't. Learning is a linear process and practical application a spatial one......Won't you agree that if CRW or any other aspect of this sport is worth doing then it must be worth doing well? Please continue asking for information that can be supported with published facts and you will learn a great deal faster . Information based on experiences or testimonials will be just that, remember , unless you were there doing what was shared with you at the exact same time and circumstances and unless you have experienced similar situations yourself, at this point in your training, you are not being well served at all. Many of us will be delighted to share our experiences with you at a time when it will be worth something and good for you know, absorb and put to practical use. Until that time, please continue to be excited, get ahold of any films, videos, books and reports you can and devour them over and over.....However, KEEP FOCUSED ON YOUR BASIC TRAINING AND SHOW RESPECT TO THOSE WHO WOULD PREVENT YOU FROM KILLING YOURSELF FOR LACK OF TRAINING ............. WendyFaulkner can be reached through Faulkner @boxofclue.com. This is a very grand place to go for factual published information along with the equipment manufacturers listed in parachutist magazine. "WAX ON..........WAX OFF........." . Best of Results with your quest. CRWBUDDHA

By the rules we all pretend to operate under, I would suggest you might consider looking up this one: Q. Who is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of a skydiving parachute system? Note: the question does not state or ask who is licensed to make repairs, alterations or assembly and packing. Yep, sometimes lessons learned are hard ones. Sorry about your friend and I hope this episode will make her stronger and perhaps a mentor to others, helping to prevent any more of these complacent injuries. Buddha

In your first jump course you were given the basics of canopy flight and perhaps you remember the descent rate of a ram air canopy is 25fps. take that times 1.5 and you will get started.....next take that number times 60 to get into minutes then times 60 again to get into hours then divide by 5280 and get mph. Many similar results are found on todays roads at 25 mph so don't feel slighted that you were not going some outrageiou speed like 60 or 70. I'm sad that another zoomie got smacked however no amount of higher intelligence can be successfully legislated or guarenteed to present itself at any given moment. The fact that your friend sustained serious and permenant damage should be enough education to warrant you and any others to refrain from those activities that increase risk beyond most bodies ability to heal. Perhaps your inquisitiveness might be more well suited to investigating ways to improve awareness and decrease reaction time to avoid such results. God knows that the sport could use some really good scilence in this area, ...........How many would heed any advice.............? I hope your friend heals well enough to become a mentor to someone else before they follow suit. Cheers, Buddha

Your response has left the question .......

Hey there look at a dead man walking........! go back to school and really pay attention this time. Your canopy doesn't know where the ground is and doesn't know whether it hurts or not.......If you have no idea how to deal with problems on opening or flight, someone elses opinion about how you should do it is as stupid as your own canopy........

Age has nothing to do with the value .......dirt, use and wear and tear are the only things that actually depreciate the value. I would suggest that it's only worth what you would be actually willing to pay for it yourself as if it were from another diver, totally unknown to you.......or you can look at it another way, it will sell for only what another is willing to part with and you are willing to accept........Ultimately if you are only going to go by what others tell you, I will give you 25.00 for the whole set and you pay the shipping........How's that for a deal? Use your head and contact the maker's and ask if they will give you a value based on how they dispose of used gear that comes back in for trade.... Oddly enough, if you contact the Manufacturer's you will be surprised at how smart they are and how good you feel after they impart some valuable knowledge your way. Cheers

Humm, let me see now,.......... $100.00 divided by 60 seconds freefall per jump, the freefall part of the jump is about 1.00 so I guess it will take you 100 jumps at about 17.00 per jump to recoup that investment.humm.$1700.00 to recoup $100.00 for the goggles........Humm......... kroops were never more than $8.00 and they last about 20 years or so.........and back when they were new, the recoup cost was 2 jumps ...........Hummmm As what's stupid about that?...........Humm.........

Perhaps by now you realize that you are the one who will make the jump, the decision and the money to purchase YOUR DECISION...........Now for a guy who can obviously use a computer, I suggest you go to all the canopy maker's web sights, click on the style of canopy you wish to inquire about, scroll down to the particular unit and then read recomended weights for beginner, novice, experienced and expert. All the makers for some 20 years have published some sort of recomendations in this area. Perhaps you might agree with the premise that no canopy knows where the ground is and whether on any occassion, whether it may hurt or not...... I would suggest you zero in on a specific canopy with specific maker's information and then filnd some one who has experience with that set of circumstances, then you might get something worth while........ No matter how much you want to fit in with your local DZ situation, until you have much more experience, trial and error, bruises, torn jump suit pants, death defying stories, of your own, you will probably feel somewhat inadequate . Learning to survive by your own ability is a good thing and should not take back seat to someone elses opinion, time frame or ego. By the way, don't be surprised to learn that you've screwed up and bought all the wrong stuff and you should have listened to me or hell I could have got you a better deal or anything like that......Those who would belittle you for your choices would never show up to pay your medical bills.

You might contact the CRWBUDDHA for personal assistance with CRW risers and toggles. cheers

Suggest you contact WWW. DiamondQuest.org, then click on the B>O>D link and then contact either Rich or Frank for Nasser's current address...... Technically they were an additional line that ran from the front riser up to the 2 most outboard A line attachment points. The idea was that if you pull on this line, you could induce positive pressure on the outboard nose without creating a diving action similar to that of a front riser pressure. Some even thought it advantageous in trimming a wing without using a whole riser. Then many found no benefit at all. On a positive note, it was an attempt to refine theshape of an inflight airfoil for maximum efficiency while flying in formation. It helped to learn about how canopies interact with eachother while in flight however like anything else in an Engineering investigation, the outcome can only be evaluated if the input is coordinated.

I would recomend you contact Para Flite and ask for a copy of their manual on Canopy Flight. It's over 20 years old and to date I have not found a better tutorial on basic technique which may very well fit the circumstances you are concerned about, and a lot more too. One thing for sure, if you posess a working knowledge of the techniques in that manual, you will survive to jump another day and twenty years from now, you will be able to better judge whether the wealth of information in the community has any real value. I donot believe anyone is intentially out to hurt you however, instant gratification in this sport has shown that it doesn't work as well as tried and tested methods that have been duplicated by thousands for hundreds of thousands of jumps over 40 years of recording. Cheers and remember if what you are told seems unclear, it may very well be. The manufacturers have more information available and that information can be fully substantiated. Check this out, you'll be glad you did. Buddha 1-609-663-1275 Para Flite......New Jersey Home Offices

Along time ago, when I was young, I took a standardized Government test......The results were interesting, to say the least, however, the one thing that to this day is instantly recalled was the comment from the reviewer which read: "Congratulations, you have demonstrated a propensity to understand how Government works. Obviously, you can read, write and comprehend on an 8th. grade level. Perhaps you might consider a career with the US Government? "

Shaun, I suggest you contact the Manufacturers of CRW Canopies and get the information you seek from them. Sure there are plenty of individuals with experience and some might even share valuable techniques with you: however it would seem unlikely that you will gain 25 or 30 years experience and or knowledge without input from the manufacturers and learning from those people that they will most certainly recommend. Attached are the phone numbers of CRW canopy makers that are readily available . Who knows, you might even talk with the owners, designers or even people qualified to answer your questions. Performance Designs 1-386-738-2224 Aerodyne research 1-813-837-1673 Flight Concepts 1- 770-458-1516 Para Flight 1-609-663-1275 Your honest questions deserve the best understandings and if you choose to contact any of these manufacturers, I would suggest you have all your questions written down in a form that you can attach each manufacturer's answers next to it. In this way, you will get the most informative and accurate information that you seek and you will be able to judge for yourself what is important to you. Step up to the plate and make a swing, I think you'll be glad you did. Cheers, Buddha>>>>> A copy of Parachutist may have additional numbers you can contact>>>>

You seem to have accurately noted the makers of the equipment, perhaps you would find it appropriate to contact them. They're still in the book or you might try Parachute Pages. Com for any address updates.. good luck......It's good stuff and one might suggest you do not let it get out of your sight for there are museums that might pay alot if you were to part with it.

Of course you might just consider hanging the can from a piece of 900 cord and see if that solves your problem.....It has been done like that for many years and not burned anybody or any thing...... If $ is your real problem you can get alternatives from commercial Fireworks Manufacturers.....they're $7.50 here in Fla. and they work every time..... Just let your fingers do the walking in the yellow pages. POOOOF and Pyro's..........Cheers
