  1. WHOOOO HOOOOO!!! THE Big 1-0-0!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Congrats!!! Keep us posted on how the rest of your student progression is going!!!
  3. IMO, "Weekend Numbers" serves a great purpose - pretty much for the same reason that we buy beer after an accomplishment -
  4. :5:1 My Number are 5 jumps, 2 of which were very stressful Instructor Evaluation Dives with the IE, and I owe one case for getting my I.
  5. IMHO, "Extream" sport as we see them on ESPN or elsewhere are defined my their market ability more than the nature of the event itself. Lets think about this - Skydiving is not much of an "Extream" sport as is skateboarding or rollerblading, or at least in the eyes of the television executives. Why?? Some little dweeb can watch a skateboarding show and then want his mom to take him to Wal-Mart to buy a Skate Board - other than maybe Marketing Tandems to a few attentive watchers, Skydiving has no real "Extream" appeal to the networks... Golly, I'm sure that little speech of mine here has been posted by hunderds of users in hundreds of posts before... =========Shaun ==========
  6. IT IS!!!!! =========Shaun ==========
  7. I've got a Sabre2 150 and if you feel up to it in August, you are welcome to borrow it. Also, go talk to Lyle at Sunpath and inquire about their Demo program... I'll have to swing by the DZ.com tent and meet ya!! =========Shaun ==========
  8. Isn't this the area for Ed at USPA?? Maybe we should draft a petition and circle it throught the community, opting for the changes mentioned by our lawyer friend here! Why not act now before it becomes a problem! =========Shaun ==========
  9. Freaking Unbelievable..... =========Shaun ==========
  10. This happening to me isn't a big problem - it's only happened twice. It was more of a hypothetical scenerio I've been playing over in my mind. =========Shaun ==========
  11. Let me further add that I am not trying to come across as if I "know it all." quite the contrary, I know that I have a lot to learn and have hardly started to learn it. If I need a correction, by all means, jump right in and correct me. My only concern here is simply student safety. =========Shaun ==========
  12. The first jump course outline give some general recommedations for control input - it gives guidelines like Nothing more than a 360 degree turn lower than 1,500, nothing moe than 180 below 1,000', nothing more than 90 degree turns below 500', and only minimal corrections below 200'. However, to further answer the question, let me refer you to Bill Von's 10 Things that Will Keep you Alive I think almost any question in this forum can be answered by that articel. Mad props to Bill.
  13. This is a question I have been stewing over in my mind for quite a while Since I've become a Coach - Hopefully the answers I recive here can help make me a more effective Coach and Instructor and help those who are learning and Learning to teach... Imagine this situation, if you will - A Coach/Instructor is working with a student on a 1 on 1 basis, teaching him/her the things that they will need to learn for their next dive. Along comes Instructor/Coach "B,", who in a condescending manner, informs the First Coach/Instructor that what they are teaching in wrong, and makes it clear to the student that they know more than the person teaching them. My question is this - Once an Instructor/Coach has been put down like this in front of a student, can it become a Safety issue to the student since he or she has learned that not everything their instructor is teaching them is correct?!?! This does not have to be just "right" or "wrong" issues, I have only seen this happen with issues of preference or teaching styles, which would have little or no consequence to the learner. I am just looking for answers here that pertain to the image a Student will have for his Instructor or Coach after an event like this. For the record - this has happened to me on two occasions, both were issues of personal preference and teaching styles. I simply did as I learned in my coach course, said "Excuse me, may I work with my student?" and proceded to work on the ground training for their next dive... I know this is a complicated scenerio, and I hope I explained it well enough for you (the reader) to understand. If not, let me know and I will provide a few more examples... Blue Skies, Shaun Smith Manhattan, Kansas Edited for gramatical and spelling corrections only.. =========Shaun ==========
  14. Twenty Three, Eh?!?! Happy Birthday!!! =========Shaun ==========
  15. That's a damn fine time to be alive, Mr. Quade. =========Shaun ==========
  16. Yeah, Exept for the ones I couldn't reach on the ceiling above you bed - so when you fell asleep each night, the last thing you saw was the Hanson brothers smiling down upon you...... =========Shaun ==========
  17. I could believe that Bart smokes a little Dope, but there is no way You could convince me that Marge & Lisa are smoking anything for that matter. Ned Flanders on the other Hand..... =========Shaun ==========
  18. This thread was inspired by a thread in the Speakers corner. It's Purpose is to educate myself and other Dropzone.com patrons on some of the new threats to Dropzones in the Lawsuit-happy Country we are living in right now. I've done my searches, and have not been content with the results I've found - hence this thread!!
  19. It's been known for a while that anti-gun activists were using the Lead-pollution ticket as a way to push shooting ranges out of business. Our public range here in my hometown was closed down due to a lawsuite from a local farmer because of "lead Pollution." IMO, it's just another way for the anti-gun crowd to try to gain control. =========Shaun ==========
  20. Ya did the right thing. IMO, the whole point of competition in this sport is to speed up personal and team advancement, all you did was help out. I would hope that somebody would do that for me.... =========Shaun ==========
  21. Oh come on Ivan, I thought You LOVED teenie Bopper Music! Don't you remember all those pictures of "Hanson" all over your bedroom walls you had?? =========Shaun ==========
  22. This was posted almost simultaneously in the Gear & rigging forum.... Here it is, with a few more responses =========Shaun ==========
  23. Help me out here - I don't understand something... What is on this bag to prevent Line Dump - Two small small male tuck-tabs? When a packer has placed the main deployment bag into the tray, and presses down from on top, isn't there a greater chance that some of thsoe s-folded lines could change their positions and give the jumper a greater chance for tension knots? =========Shaun ==========
  24. I too got the letter - I'm amazed since I hardly get anything of this sorts... The whole situation is a real eye opener. The company show's a number of signs of instability, and further leads me to believe that this AAD has a long way to go until it will be widely accepted here in the US. =========Shaun ==========
  25. I knew it!! He's really a moderator in Disguise!!! =========Shaun ==========
