One of our jumpers is a Chaplain at Ft. Gordon...he filled out some paperwork and got approval from the garrison commander for us to land there. __________________________________________ Have you Got Flare?

I'm thinking golf courses too! Would be fun. Actually, we are cleared to land at Fort Gordon if we end up over their air space. Right now, though it's too hard to predict because we have no clue what the winds will be doing that day and the balloon company has various launch points depending on wind direction. What do you vidiots need to be able to copy footage on site? Laptop computer? Since this is my first balloon jump too (I know...beer!) I definitely want to take advantage of you guys with cameras strapped to your head and get the footage of this event. Also...I'm surprised that I've got no takers yet on my offer of a place to crash the night before! We're going to have 2 balloons. 4 jumpers per balloon. $100 gets you a 10k jump and a 5k jump. We'll need to meet at 6:30 am on Dec 3rd. We'll check the winds and figure out the launch point. I will send out specifics of exactly where we'll meet in Augusta a few days before. The balloons will launch together but will most likely separate on the way to altitude. The balloons will have chase crews and will have radio contact. Once we get to altitude and find a place where we want to land, we're free to leave the basket. We can use the chase crew to verify the landing area. When we get down, we need to do quick pack job. We'll hop in the chase vehicle and go to meet the balloon. The goal is the have packtime+travel time=baloon decent time. Then it's back in the basket and back up for the half altitude jump. Should be a damn good time! And if the weather is anything like the past few weekends, it's going to be beautiful. The balloon pilots are only responsible for their own gear. If you wouldn't jump it at a DZ, you probably shouldn't it jump it from the balloon. Not sure what you mean by this....There will be one jump from 5K.... __________________________________________ Have you Got Flare?

The balloon pilots take wind speed and drift into account to determine a good launch point. If the wind is cooperative that day and they can find an good area to launch from which will put them over Ft. Gordon at altitude then we'll be landing on Barton Field (provided the approval is arranged). No. Normally weather in GA in Dec is pretty nice, so here's to hoping! Yes. If you can get someone to fill your slot. Since balloon jumps are expensive to begin with, and to avoid others getting stuck with the cost of making up for a no show, if you commit and provide money via PayPay, please show up. They will have a balloon chase crew, so they will also be picking us up. Additionally, if Ft. Gordon works out, we'll have a designated landing area which means we'll meet at Ft. Gordon and caravan to the launch point. Also, us "locals" will have extra vehicles/Significant Others who can help out. Wind/Weather. Ok....so here's the scoop: When: Saturday, Dec 03 Where: Augusta, GA (exact location TBD) Time: Around 8AM Cost: $100 gets you two jumps--one from 10.5K and one from 5K (75$ if you just make the one jump from full altitude) Each balloon can only hold 4 jumpers. If you are interested I need to start getting a head count ASAP so they can line up the rest of the balloons to accomodate. I will also need money upfront. I have a paypal account, so that will be the easiest way to go. We need a minimum of 3 other people right now to fill the one balloon and get the $100 price. Alright people!!!! This is a go! Ok...Since I'm seeing some growing interest but there seems to be some conflicts with November, I'm going to throw two dates out there: Dec 3 or Dec 10 (both are Saturdays). I don't know balloon sizes, but I do know they have a few of them. I can find out if it will make a difference??? As for launch location, I'd let the balloon company dictate that. It'd definitely be somewhere in Augusta--probably not too far from I-20 (if you're familiar with the area). Howdy all! I've found a local company who will take Skydivers up to altitude and let us out. A simple balloon ride for 2 people is $300 which I was planning on doing with my fiancee and just getting out at the end. But then I starting thinking it'd be more fun to have a bunch of people get together for baloon jumps. So I'm trying to organize an event. I'm sure if I can get enough people together, the prices would be quite reasonable--($60 range). PM me if you're interested so I can start getting a head count together. I've been pretty spoiled in the past on how close I live to a DZ. Now I live in Augusta, GA and the nearest DZ is about 1.5 hours away (2 hours for a full service DZ). Being accustomed to having a DZ so close has gotten me thinking.... People familiar with the Augusta area know that Daniel field is a pretty nice size federally funded municipal airport. This means that getting permission to use it for skydiving is not all that difficult. What I'm really curious is how many people on DZ.com are close enough to Augusta to support a skydiving club (part-time DZ). I'm thinking that if we could get enough people who were willing to commit once a month (weather permitting), finding a plane should be doable. Basically, all monies would go to the pilot since there would be no DZ facilities to maintain. The pilot would easily be able to justify the weekend based on profit margin. There are some slight logistical issues such as packing area and such, but those things can easily be worked out. So is an idea like this doable? How many people would be interested?
