  1. hmm, got my cypres2 a couple of weeks ago... I've done about 10 jumps w/ it. So far so good. The display stays on..... I don't think it's that big of a deal....if mine starts doing it, I'll send it in on my next repack cycle.. The cypres stays on for 14 hours.....I wouldn't bother turning it on and off after each jump just to see the 0 in the display. If SSK says it's no big deal...I'm sure they are telling the truth! I don't think they would risk their reputation if it was a serious problem. It would be a hassle it that started happening... At least they will pay shipping and repair if you chose to send it in... scott
  2. I checked out the pictures on E-bay of the rig you just bought. It looks pretty good. I asked a rigger about the 20 year gear limit. The rigger said that it's total B.S.! There is no preset lifetime of any skydiving gear. Some riggers may have a suggested 20 year limit but in the end, it is up to them to decide weather or not your rig is "airworthy". Obvously most people would suggest getting BOC pouch instead of the ROL, seperate reserve handle(get rid of the S.O.S. system) Hell! if you replaced the velcro w/ tuck tabs, you could probably do Freeflying with it! Don't quote me on this!! but why not?? scott
  3. I used to live in Seattle......thank God I moved to L.A. where we can skydive year-round! scott
  4. Don't worry!! When I said 2 1/2 months I meant that was the time between when I got injured and when I returned to the sport. My accident was on July 1st....I jumped again on September 15th! I wasn't in a cast the whole time!!!! 1) first 3 weeks in a plaster cast w/ crutches (No surgery needed..THANK GOD!) 2) another 3 weeks in a walking cast (fiberglass cast) 3) 1 month of streatching and jogging on the treadmill (doctors orders) to make sure I got my range of motion back. Although the bone was healed in only six weeks....it takes longer for the muscles to streatch and regain their strength. I could have come back sooner but I didn't want to take any chances. When I came back...I did my first 2 jumps on a sabre2 190 before downsizing back to my Sabre150. I got super cautious....bought a Cypres 2, Protrack and a hooknife since I had the fear of GOD in me now! Good Luck with your recovery....how did you break your fibula anyway??? scott
  5. I was grounded for 2 1/2 months...broke my fibula on landing! I just completed my 100th jump yesterday. I'm back on my Sabre150! I've faxed in my C-license paper work... It feels great to be back in the sport! scott
  6. I have close to 100 jumps...... I don't want a malfunction..... reason? 1) I don't want to damage my main canapy (line over, tears in the fabric ect.) 2) I don't want to go looking for freebag and main afterwards 3) I don't want to pay for the reserve repack! If I was on rented gear in would be a different story. I haven't yet had a malfunction that resulted in a cut-away.....I know I can handle it when it happens because I practice emergency procedures before every jump! Saying that you want to have a cut away is foolish! The reserve is your LAST CHANCE to live, you don't want to use it unless you HAVE TO! It would be like me saying "dude, I hope I hook it in too low and bounce....just to see whats its like!" Pack your own chute! CAREFULLY! this will greatly reduce your chances of a cutaway! scott
  7. It took me about 20 or 30 jumps before I could feel comfortable on the plane ride up.... Ask your JM about how the gear works....3-ring, reserve, RSL, AAD....it will make you more confident about the gear your jumping if you understand how simple and idiot proof it is! (idiot proof most of the time anyway). The fear is the best part of the skydive!!! You don't think about work...relationships or money when you are about to skydive. All of those things don't mean JACK SHIT..when you are looking down and see that planet flying at you....if you want to live pull!! scott
  8. I wonder if the Cypres 2 has better software for measuring altitude than the original Cypres...does anyone know the answer to this? I just got a Cypres2 installed on my rig today! I think the Vigil comparing calculations of the previous jumps and using that to help calculate the current jump scares me! There are just to many variable...exit altitute, temp. fall rate (freestyle vs. RW). In the end....which calculation is the Vigil going to believe? I would assume it would believe measurments that are taking place on the current jump before it would chose to go with data accumulated from previous jumps.....in which case.....WHAT IS THE POINT OF IT ALL.....if the Vigil is just going to do what a Cypres does....fire according to the current mesurements! It does sound like a waste of proccessing power! could someone explain this process? scott
  9. YES!!!!! YOU GUYS ROCK! I just tried it! thank you.... The manual doesn't bother to tell you that you have to be in that page to shut it off. I was trying to do this in the main "profile page" that comes on when you first access it. thanks, scott jaco
  10. Damn! I feel stupid asking this..... The directions say hold the "mode" button, then press and hold the "select button" holding both at the same time...it is suppose to count down from 500? Mine just scrolls to the "jump type" menu! the word "freefly" appears. I know it shuts itself off in 14 hours "economy mode" but what if I visit 2 dropzones in one day? I want to make sure it is at zero before I jump. Thanks, Scott p.s. I'm waiting on a reply from Larson & Brusgaard
  11. Well lets get this straight..... It now costs $1,000 dollars U.S.? I thought it was like $600? I just got a Cypres2 for $1225 at Square 1. I decided not to wait for the Vigil because the Cypres has over 10 years of experience with a really good track record. Also, I now own a Protrack, so I really don't need those extra features..... Hope this new Vigil works well.....I just think it pays to wait. scott
  12. At Perris, you pay 10 bucks to rent the SIM manual before taking the test. All the questions in the exam are highlighted in different colors...depending on what license exam you are taking. Much easier! scott
  13. It really doesn't matter anyway! A Licence lets you jump almost anywhere B Licence lets you do night jumps C Licence lets you coach & demo D Licence lets you Jumpmaster I really don't care about the last 2! Nobody has ever asked me what license I have..... people always ask....."how many jumps do you have?" scott
  14. I've decided to shell out the money and get a cypres2. After tons of peer pressure, and the fact that some places require AAD's (skydive San Diego) I should just spend the money and forget about it. It kinda pisses me off that they are so expensive...... I wish it were the 80's..........nobody used AAD's back then! things were cheaper! scott
  15. I don't understand why Javlin doesn't hire additional staff? I mean 6 months of waiting! that is insane! They are shooting themselves in the foot! I'd get a Wings if I were you.....cheaper, faster, just as good! scott
  16. I saw the pictures on the website, it looks like it disconnects really easy in the event of a total malfunction! Very cool.....probably everyone will be using it on their system! Eventually you'll should be able to upgrade your older rig as well. scott
  17. How does the skyhook disconnect from the bridle of the reserve pilot chute when you have total malfunction? (don't use the main canopy to pull the reserve bag from the container). Worst case scenerio, you go low, don't bother with you're main. Pull the reserve, the pilot chute is still attached to the RSL that is still attached to your container? How does it disconnect? is there any risk that it may stay hooked in? scott
  18. I don't know how much you weigh but a 280 is way too big if you are buying a brand new rig. Why spend all that money for somthing that I gurantee, you will be sick of in 20 jumps or less. Go to a drop zone that has a DEMO PROGRAM. Downsize to somthing a little more interesting, over the course of a few months and then start looking at buying gear. scott
  19. I wonder if you can upgrade any rig with a skyhook, just sew a lanyard to your existing RSL and route it to the bridle of your reserve pilot chute? Could that work? scott
  20. I have a question.... Perris charges $70 bucks for a reserve repack.... they also charge $10 bucks for cypres install. Since my rig is due for a repack, can I just slip the new cypres in the sleave and route the cables myself? Do they have to check that it's installed properly anyway as part of the repack? My guess is yes? Why would they charge $10 dollars if you are already paying $70 bucks? for somthing so easy? scott
  21. I have one question? Why are RW groups allowed to jump first! Shouldn't freeflyers go first, since they fall faster...... Look what happened to me....I caught up to them because I was in a stand up position but the group before me was RW! bellyflyers fall slower, shouldn't they be last? scott
  22. What is skygod bullshit? It has nothing to do with what happend....it has more to do with the way they came at me...I didn't like their hollier than thou approach. They said they were AFF instructors! Then I asked if they were AFF instructors at Perris....nope! skydive Las Vegas! that really got on my nerves because they were acting like an authority figure! Like I said, we all kissed and made up afterwords... were all cool now! scott
  23. Well for starters, they could have pulled at 3K! like everyone else. That way I wouldn't have flown past them! scott
