  1. Why wouldn't they? I made my first at 19, then the rest starting at 22. Why wouldn't you tell them?
  2. www.crackberry.com Go do some research.
  3. And the pussification of the world continues. It's not a "Fuck you" attitude. It's this little thing called reality. I'm gonna guess you played in a sports league where everyone got trophies too? You don't have to be mean when you tell someone they are all fucked up - but a lot of people misinterpret honesty/bluntness for being a dick, especially when they don't like what was said. Also - listen to Frost. The SoFPiDaRF is a great school. Taught me everything I know about canopy flight.
  4. the rig is french, the jumpers are french, jumping in France... The rating is not given by the manufacturer.. and maybe it was not intentional but the TI was having trouble getting stable on the belly. I'd rather see a TI who can fly a tandem head down, more than one who gets side-spinned if the passenger hold one hand out. The TI is very talented in many disciplines. FS, Freefly, BASE jumping, wingsuit flying. The passenger is the TI's wife, and also a very talented lady. Everybody goes OOOH and AAAAH when seeing their videos, for several years.... and then comes some "regulation-know-it-all" wanting to get everyones rating Do you expect anything else from posting here for a while now?
  5. I've never seen a tandem student with that good of form on their head.
  6. Travel to jumpable states during the winter. Or, suck it up and jump in the cold.
  7. Another unfortunate thing that Dave has touched on here, and a reason for getting harsh replies, is that that is more than one thread in existence where someone talks about flying a canopy that they should not be on, etc, but they have "mad skillz" and shortly thereafter there is a post in their memory in the Incidents forum. It's not that most of them are assholes, but people get jaded saying the same thing over and over again onto deaf ears. Kinda falls into the same logic as jumping in higher winds. If you are going to get on the plane and everyone at your DZ with >1000 jumps is sitting in the landing area with beers and video cameras....rethink your decision to jump.
  8. Nope. Well, I guess there are some out there that may, but I'm not one of them. In fact, I love teaching student jumpers as well as low time jumpers (under 500 jumps) canopy control. This thread is a reminder that perspective can be wildly different between a non-jumper, a low time jumper and experienced jumpers. Where as a non-jumper may see something on TV like an organized RW jump and assume that those persons are on a team. That they may have a team name and compete at some level. Where as those may just be up-jumpers who enjoy jumping together or it was a fun jump at a boogie. Now complete these different perspectives with the typical Type-A personality that is drawn to skydiving and flatten all sort of communicative additives with the internet. You can see how those different perspectives may become wildly skewed on the receiving end. Yeah, what he said. Also, add in a mix of anonymity behind a keyboard, and voila! Also - it's not that we don't wanna talk to students about swooping, 4way VRW, etc, its just that their direct attention needs to be focused on much simpler tasks first, or half the stuff we talk about won't even make sense... You gotta run before you can walk.
  9. If I have learned nothing else this year so far, this is it.
  10. 85% men in this sport. I've risked a lot more money on a lot worse odds than that before.
  11. I'm gonna vote for a douchebag. If he survive a double mal, I'll eat my words.
  12. Z-Hills Swoop Comp Numbers: Plane ticket $199.10 - $100.17 (refunded due to blizzard) = $98.93 Baggage - $15.00 Hotel - $152.58 / 2 = $76.29 Comp registration + 4 jumps = $175.00 Rental car - $106.89 (story at bottom) Packer - $26.00 Incidentals and food - $124.74 + $50cash I probably spent Gas to get home - $102.73 That should cover most things - Total = $775.58 or roughly $193.90 per jump. Given the people I was hanging out with, and what I learned........well worth it, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. However I want FL weather to cooperate next time. Could have cost me more, but Hertz screwed up the transition on the rental car contract to drive back to Baltimore from Zhills so badly they just canceled the extra $150 off my card, which I am thankful for. It ended up costing the same as the refunded flight...less the 1200 mile drive home.
  13. This is spot on. Most competent swoopers know where their window of opportunity is and adjust their turn rate depending on numerous factors. The hardest part I found with learning how to swoop was when to get off of the front risers (ie: when to stop the turn). Practice, practice, practice. This skill does not come naturally. Repetition is the name of the game ... and I am not current now so if/when I get back into swooping I too must back up many many steps in my progression and do not pass "Go" without putting my time into playing high, not going big right out of the box and figuring out this oh so important skill of learning one's window of opportunity and learning when to roll out of the turn. I know what to do to get back in the game, but I would be a damn fool if I thought I could be in the game right away without putting my time in. Time and money ....
  14. My hook knife stayed with the rig last few times I flew. Not a second look.
  15. Lol. 325 feet here...talk about a grease spot. To the OP - you will find that most people engaging in high performance canopy flight will not consider what they are doing to be hook turns, but rather a controlled approach in a smoothly executed high performance turns. Hook turning to me conjures up images of that rapid turn and hook with the toggle whipping of the past.. That being said, I like to do my 270 on a VE111 loaded @ 2.2 from around +/- 800. This includes a braked initiation, double fronts and the turn itself. I'm still learning though, and playing with different heights, and rates of turn. A few more thousand jumps should give me a better idea of what exactly works best for me.
  16. How is the new sponsor in any way guilty in any of this?

    Snow

Being listed as essential personnel is what has made me hate snow so much
  18. Good to see everyone again. Congrats Mike! /checks for rig //has it ///yikes!
  19. You realize thats what 99% of the planet thinks about you jumping out of an airplane with just a "chute" to save you And this is what I love about this website, and the internet in general. "I don't BASE-but that looked real stupid and ...blah blah blah" /sigh
  20. Jim, it's not you. /still grateful for letting me borrow that pilot chute when mine bought the Farm at WP.
