Poll: Total jump numbers and the type of canopy you fly
NeedToJump replied to listo's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I've got about 1300 jumps and jump a Katana 120 loaded at 1.5, I usually swoop, but it's not a requirement. I also like to vary my approach - 90, 180, 270, 360. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com -

You can learn a little more than just that in a wind tunnel Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

What do you mean by "count" - do you mean does it count toward ratings and licenses? USPA does not count tunnel time as freefall time. Personally, I do not count tunnel time as freefall time since you're not actually in freefall, you're in a wind tunnel. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

Well then come on over to Florida and fly with us! We're always looking to fly with new people
-
I've got about 1300 jumps with many of them opening up high, but let's just say 1300 minutes of freefall or about 21 hours. I've got about 100 hours of tunnel time sooooooo, yeah, I'd say I have more tunnel time than freefall time, hance the sig line

Nice pics Ian!

Happy Birthday Paige! It's been quite the year with everything that you've been through, but for everything that's happened you've just come out stronger. It's been great being with you through it. I've also incredibly enjoyed seeing all your progress in the tunnel. In just a few short months you've gone from just getting off the net in a sit to flying your ass off and coaching! You've done an amazing job in there. I hope your birthday is a great one and you enjoy all the tunnel today. Happy birthday to the best girlfriend you crazy hot tunnel chic!!

Paige and I were in Las Vegas last week and while we were there we got to fly at Flyaway Indoor Skydiving. HUGE thanks to Dawn (Bodyflight.NET) and Keith (the manager at Flyaway) for hooking us up! You rock Dawn!

Yeah, I'm tired of seeing all these ads too. Let's talk about tunnel flying here! Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

Which is more important: Feeling the air or having "good" body position?
NeedToJump replied to WrongWay's topic in Freeflying
Both! If you're doing a solo or practicing something with a coach or someone else, then you want to focus on having the most efficient body position. You want do get this to the point where flying the "picture perfect" body positions become second nature. When you are flying with other people and trying to turn points or build a formation you can't be thinking about how to fly, you just have to do it. You just have to feel the air to get where you need to be. The idea is to be so comfortable with the "good" body position that you fly like that all the time without needing to think about it. As AggieDave said - it's the same progression as belly flying. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com -
Post some video afterwards...

One of the great things about moving to DeLand is getting to meet and get coaching from some of the best skydivers in the world. Shannon was our team's coach last season (Crosskeys Down to Earth) and during the times that he couldn't make it, he had Lise fill in for him. They are both winderful skydivers, coaches and people. Yeah, Shannon's ok... I'm excited to see the competition this year, there's a lot of good teams out there to keep an eye on.

The only way you are going to get help with what you want is to talk to the experienced swoopers at your dropzone and have them watch you. If you've been practicing double front riser landings for over 50 jumps, you only have 100 jumps total and you're finding yourself in the corner then you really need to talk to someone who can watch you. To add a disclaimer: I highly advise against attempting any more double front risers landings before talking to an experienced swooper / canopy coach at your dropzone. Practice all you want up high (before entering the landing pattern) but be conservative when landing. A 210 loaded at 1.1 can *easily* bite you if you're not careful. Be safe. LOL! It's yellow, orange and red growing out now (black roots) but I'm actually changing it today. I'll be sure to post pictures when it's done... Hmmmm, get there early and fly extra time, huh? I'm convinced
-
I'm with you, I love bringing people down to the tunnel. It's great to get people in there who would never skydive so they can experience some of what I love so much

Hi, my name is Ari and I am definitely a tunnel addict. Last year I earned the nickname "Tunnel Junkie." Last time I flew was about 10 days ago but I'll be flying again tonight

Don't forget about from dz.com too, congratulations and welcome to the sky! The visuals are a bit more interesting than the tunnel... Pretty cool, huh? Good luck with the AFF, see you at the tunnel!
