They were wrong, otherwise they would be so plentiful that hunting licenses wouldn't be needed to hunt them today. But yes, they were just like you.

Brent would have been a terrible marketer for Big Tobacco. "I know you're trying to quit, but even if you go from 10 cigarettes a day to 1 cigarette a day, the TOTAL number you've smoked continues to increase every day! You should stop trying to quit!"

Provide the link, gymnast.

Geez, still no sources. Ford is losing billions selling EVs because they're investing in R&D and massively committing to EVs. Ford is still profitable, even with all its spending on EVs. Tesla wasn’t consistently profitable until it was shipping about 400,000 units a year. Ford will take some time to catch up. It's funny, 4 years ago you were cheering and gloating about Tesla going bust, now that they're profitable (with a pretty big margin too) you've now focused on other companies following Tesla. Your argument has more contortions than Cirque du Soleil.

How can a FAILED prediction, be better than a prediction that still has 2 years to go? Amazing mental gymnastics again.

In any case anyone is wondering how brent's next 5 months looks in terms of chances. From the NOAA June report, So, brent has a whopping 3% chance that 2023 "won't even hit the top five". But then again maths is not brent's forte (whether he drinks whisky or not). Anyway why didn't you post your sources brent? Worried we might read them?

Landing on the mental gymnastics balance beam between your legs, more like. 0/10 did not stick the landing

Weren't you predicting it won't even be in the top five? Impressive mental gymnastics. No sources too, as expected.

That's easy, the stuff they like. If it's poetry, most of the bible sucks. Only 1 book that I know of would really count as poetry - the Book of Psalms. All of the other books are just prose about gruesome violence and sex.
-
And incest, lots of sex, and shocking violence. I was in my early teens when I decided to try to read the bible like a novel - man, that was a shocker. Combine that with christian children being taught Jesus' death in very gruesome, graphic detail. It's messed up, that Utah board was right to ban it from schools.

Basically after the Planck epoch, the fundamental forces started decoupling. Before decoupling of the electroweak force, photons could not exist independently. But quarks could, so that already disproves that light was the first thing in the universe. W and Z bosons, as well as gluons also formed before photons could. The universe was then just opaque plasma, and doesn't really become transparent to light until about 370,000 years after the Big Bang. 3 million years after the Big Bang, the universe went dark - and stayed dark (in visible wavelengths) for almost 200 million years until the first stars started forming. So the suggestion that the Bible is "simplified" for its intended audience is laughable, being "simplified" means there was access to the actual truth in the first place. But Genesis didn't say "there were quarks and W and Z bosons, then light, then millions of years of darkness, then light again" because face it, the authors of Genesis didn't know anything about the actual beginning.

One theory? The phase-out of leaded gasoline. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead–crime_hypothesis One main thing you miss: the decline in violent crime from the 1990s was GLOBAL (okay, mostly industrialised countries, but not isolated to the US). Including countries with already tough gun control.

The lack of intelligent answers or adult conversation usually only comes from one side. Anyway, to expand on my point - in the UK, criminals find it difficult to get guns, because it's difficult to get guns in general. So most crimes are done with knives, a recent shooting (if you call 2020 recent) was done with an antique revolver with home-made ammunition. Even police here don't usually carry guns, and it's one of the best things I like about the UK. What gun supporters usually reply to the above points is: "well, the British are just a bunch of bootlicker, freedom-hating lackeys" (or some sort of similar insult) "well, even the UK can't eliminate guns 100% so we might as well give up trying, actually, we need MORE GUNS!" "it's in the CONSTITUTION!" So if your reply is one of the above, don't bother.
-
Yes. Mostly, at least. Here in the UK, the most recent mass killing was a man stabbing 2 people in the street in Nottingham. Wouldn't even make the news over there.

Traficing minors not that big of a deal in California.
olofscience replied to BartsDaddy's topic in Speakers Corner
Same with religious nutters who kept trying to teach me that without religion, people will just commit crimes. But then there's a pretty big overlap of those nutters with conservatives. -
Is brent on a time-out? I mean, nobody was expecting anything comprehensive, but he was probably about to do some mental gymnastics fit for the Olympics.

Given that homosexuality is observed in several species of animals, I'd say it's been around for a couple of million years at least. Probably around as long as animals have been around, which is around 500 million years. Unless you count single-celled interactions (at least some protists are known to undergo meiosis) which extends that to about 1.5 billion years. A bit longer than the 6000 years than the creationists think the earth has been around for.

Please do expand on this. ETH has moved to proof-of-stake almost a year ago, but I'm still waiting for crypto to actually be...useful.

You were crowing about how 2022 was "only" 5th warmest ever on record. La Nina should have made it like, 70th warmest (or something like that) but there was something else that was making it almost the warmest year on record ANYWAY. Any clue to what that "something" is, brent? I won't hold my breath, you'll never get it.

It's a cycle: "The world isn't warming! Here's yet another graph I don't understand!" "Yes it is warming, but it's so small it's unnoticeable! But it's also noticeable when it comes to benefits!" "Actually, the world isn't warming and it's colder than ever!" and back to 1) They have very short memories, like a fish or a chicken. Dory from Finding Nemo comes to mind.
-
No, brent is like the fish that bites your hook, then you throw it back, then it swallows the hook again. He's forgotten how he got hammered in the European gas debate and he's sadly trying again. Thanks Phil, I stand corrected on the coal - I thought the australian imports were for energy, which was a mistake. But China's getting hammered with climate change and pollution - Shanghai's baking in the summer, Beijing and many other cities are choking in pollution. Brent's cheering their coal use but he really has no idea that they're also doing a massive push in renewables. When they fully transition to renewables, he'll have to find some other country to cheer on.
-
Well there's still a bit of good news in that: It means coal use in the US is falling and will continue to fall. China being dependent on coal means that they're dependent on Australia - which they don't want given the politics. China doesn't exactly have a lot of coal under their territory, nor shale gas/oil (which brent thought the europeans had too, but couldn't do the maths properly). So they're also turning to renewables for energy independence.

Given that you don't read...very much at all, I'm not sure what you think you're doing when you say that. We can read the NOAA reports just fine. I actually read the whole thing, unlike you. What makes this even more funny is that you've repeatedly demonstrated you don't understand technical writing at all. But do carry on, it will be funny!

"It's popular therefore it's right". (but only on things brent agrees with) Nothing to see here really. He hasn't come here for a discussion.

This explains the imaginary leftie that lives in brent's head then
