Neither candidate has an acceptable solution. There is a demand for cheap labor in the US and the undocumented workers fill that demand. However, I also think that illegal immigrants working in the US whilst there are US citizens unable to find work is a travesty of justice. Some put forth the meretricious argument that illegal immigrants will do work that American citizens won't do. It's supposedly beneath them. To these folks I say 'deja moo - I've heard that sort of bull before'. When push comes to shove and you have to feed yourself and your family, you are going to take whatever sort of job that you can get. A friend of mine has the following idea with regards to illegals: have an encampment (a secure one) at the border. All illegals caught will be put to work building a forty feet wide, forty feet deep trench along the border. Once it's complete - many many years from now - all the workers get to watch us landmine it. Then we ship'em back to Mexico. I think that a quite nifty idea, but one that would never survive political scrutiny. No good immediate solution to the problem. Random thoughts from me. Hurricanes suck ass. Well, we've elected a draft dodger as our president before, none other than El Jefe Clintonista. I respect their right to express themselves as they see fit. Freedom of speech, press, religion and assembly are quite important. I think we should use our freedom of choice to boycott that jackoff town and any products it produces. They have the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force. Quite capable, actually. Several destroyers with the AEGIS radar system and associated missiles. The JMSDF also has submarines that are extremely capable.

No Patriots, my friend. Standard Missiles launched from a Vertical Launch System will be the missiles used. Putting Patriots on the destroyers we have based out of Japan wouldn't be a smart move. Whole lot of engineering issues would need to be resolved.

Media sensationalism. Destroyers commonly deploy in that area. I was a line officer on a destroyer out of Yokosuka, Japan and have been to South Korea so many times it's not even funny. The state-of-the-art destoyers are Arleigh Burke class, which have been around for quite some time. 'State-of-the-art' would more aptly describe the software load-out of their computer systems. OK. I think this is somewhat miraculous - and very fortunate. My friend's son was hit by a car yesterday. Not just hit. Some sonofabitch ran right into him and drug him about 20 yards. My friend rushed out to his son as the car backed up. The driver got out, looked around and drove off. Luckily, someone got the license plate and the a-hole is in jail, hopefully with a large cell mate who finds him quite attractive. The miracle: my friend's son has NO BROKEN BONES! He's in a body sock because he's so scraped and bruised and has 8 staples in his head, but is going to be OK. The doctor who treated him said it was the damnedest thing he's seen in 24+ years of medicine. How anyone can be such a callous loser is beyond me. He was probably hammered. Despicable. Anyway, I thought it miraculous and am really glad the Almighty was looking out for my friend's kid.

Good guess. I thought he was too hard on GWB's administration in some regards, not hard enough in others. Same with Reagan. He seemed right on with Clinton - and he DOES point out all the emphasis El Jefe Clintonista placed on getting bin Shitehead; it was not an insubstantial amount either. The last chapter he did go out of his way to bash Bush.

Hey folks. The JACKASS Vinny the Anvil here. I just returned this book to a friend today - finally - and it sparked a synapse to tell my dz.com friends with a political bent about it. GHOST WARS by Steve Coll is a really good history of CIA/US activity in Afghanistan from the Soviet invasion up to 10 Sep 2001. It's extremely detailed and a long read, but really worthwhile if you're interested in the subject. Given the benefit of hindsight, you can really see where we screwed the pooch on a # of occasions with regards to our foreign policy in the region. Coll does a fairly good job of keeping any political bias out of his analysis until the last chapter, where I felt him a little harsher than necessary in some respects and not harsh enough in others. Anyway, I've followed the news quite closely for years and read voraciously and I learned a lot by reading the book.
