I just noticed it down, got an e-mail from Pilot Dave as well. I'm kicking the server, should be back up momentarily
-
Yep, I was thinking wrong, I had 3mbps in my head, then 30mbps and $100/mbps/month and I multiplied them all together. My cost is $100/mbps delivered to my datacenter. I own a regional ISP/CLEC and own a $1Million datacenter at 1 Federal Street, Springfield MA. We would be similiar to Equinix but not nearly as big. I pay $100/mbps/month which includes the loop, most of my providers are in my space aready, some I have to haul in on my own OC-48 SONET ring. I also have Cisco 12000 routers, UPS, HVAC, Generator ... to deal with. I'm not complaining, I love my company/work. I just laugh when people compare this to a $9.95 all you can eat crap webhost. Exactly, just ask PilotDave how many times he went to an 'unlimited' web host and was shut down in a day because he used too much bandwidth. SDM was maxing out a 3mbps link that I had rate-limited. 3mbps is 7 million gigabits/month. Can I charge you guys $0.001/gigabit ($7k/month). With the new server and the new bandwidth I'll be interested to see how much it uses now.

HAHAHA, yeah just try to use 1gbps for $999 and see how long they keep you as a customer. Even with Cogent (dirt cheap bandwidth) you will pay $30,000/month for a 1 gigabit link ($30/mbps). My math was wrong, it is actually $3000 (had $300/mbps in my head when it is actually $100/mbps). And you are thinking TRANSFER not bits per second. 1gb/month is only like 500bps averaged through the month (500 * 60 * 60 * 24 * 30 = 1.3gb) 30mbps sustained through a month is 77 MILLION gigabits. A $999/month website won't support skydivingmovies.com. Dave tried that before I came in to help. Everyplace he tried that had 'unlimited' bandwidth shut him down as soon as he started to use it. Trust me on this one, skydivingmovies.com uses a LOT of bandwidth and costs significant amounts of money to keep running. I have 30mbps to spare on my network so it isn't a big deal. If/when my bandwidth gets tight I'll dial the server back to a more reasonable level.

I don't design the site, I just provide the hardware and the bandwidth. PilotDave designed the site. The registration requirement is to limit the amount of linking that is going on. We had a popular website deep link directly into a movie last year and it melted the machine. The machine was trying to push 100mbps I think I'm going to work on a site redesign, I'm not a PHP/HTML/SQL wizard so it will take me a while

Hey everyone, The new www.skydivingmovies.com server is up and running. The new server is a P4,3.0 Ghz HT CPU with 1 Gig RAM and 200Gig Drive. I have also increased the bandwidth from 3mpbs to 10mbps. Go in and test it out :) Lets see if you can fill up 30mbps! Thanks for the donations to make this possible -Matt edit: Just for fun I bumped the bandwidth limit up from 10 (which I did weeks ago) to 30mbps. 30mbps = $3000/month in bandwidth!

I entered my cousins name, he *is* going to a 'pound you in the ass' federal prison for 5 years in a couple months. His name is 'Ass Master' As the magic 8-ball says 'Outlook not good'. My name was 'Nut buster' but I'm not scheduled to go to prison anytime soon.

All I can say is WOW. The support from the dz.com community has been great. I just cleared $1100 through Paypal. I'll order the machine today. Please keep the donations coming, All donations will be used to pay for hardware and/or bandwidth to the site. Thanks again -Matt

We are almostt there! So far, my paypal account has $876.50, A couple hundred more and I'll order the server. Hopefully I can order it tomorrow AM. Skydivers rock

$541.74 and climbing, $460 more and I'll order the server. At this rate it'll be rebuilt and live next week.

Rebuild them, one floor higher with a memorial on the top floor for all those that died in the attack. I would never work in NYC (or any major city) but if I were I wouldn't have a problem working in the new buildings.

$421.32 has been received so far. Ideally I would like to collect $1500 for the new server, once I get $1000 I'll buy the server and work on getting it installed. Also, you may or may not have noticed but I upped the bandwidth limit to 10mbps a month ago. The current server can't keep up with the bandwidth limit. A new server will help out a lot The new server will most likely be a P4, 2 gigs of RAM, 200-400 gigs of drive. I'll buy as much machine as I can get. Question: Is there anything that you would like the new server to do? Ads? Forum? Blog? Better rating system? Thanks for the $$ so far :)

I think it was staged on the part of the 'rapper/attacker' and the camera operator. I think the woman in the PT cruiser was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was staged, he didn't want to kill her, he wasn't really enraged, he wanted to look tough.
-
Lets see, She would be arrested for vehiclular homicide. In court the prosecutor would make the case that she was never in any real harm. At several points the attacker could have hit/killed her but didn't. He was only hitting the car, a material thing like a car is not worth a human life. blah blah blah. A jury would probably find her not-guilty but not until after a long legal battle After the criminal trial she would be sued by the family of the attacker claiming damages and how 'he was such a nice boy' and a 'model citizen, just trying to get ahead'. She would have to fight this law suit, eventually win it. After both lawsuits she would have to file personal bankruptcy because she has lost her job (in court too much) and has no money (paying attorneys). Personally, if I was in her position. I wouldn't have a problem parking my back tire on his chest. I don't know if my brain could think fast enough during the event. I would probably just try to escape like she did. From the outside it looks like it took 1 or 2 minutes for her to get away. For her it probably seems like seconds as the adrenline pumped and her vision narrowed. Kinda like your first tandem.

For me it is 'Is that oil supposed to be spraying all over the windshield like that?' -
I had a dialup customer that coun't send mail. They called into support and we asked them to check their Eudora settings (yes, it was a long time ago). The customer said they would have to drive back to the house to check the settings and would call back. They had driven to the mall to use a pay phone because they didn't want to disconnect form the Internet to use their home phone. I'm not exactly sure how they thought we could fix it when they are at the mall. I had another call that went something like: --- SUPPORT: "Hello, thank you for calling tech support..." CUSTOMER: "I need to speak with your supervisor, I'm going to sue you for putting porn on my computer!" SUPPORT: "Um, ma'am, our supervisor is busy, is this something I can help you with? CUSTOMER: "Yes, for starters you can stop sending porn to my computer" SUPPORT: "Ma'am, I'm sorry, I don't understand, we do not send anything to your computer, we can't send porn to your computer" CUSTOMER: "Yes you can, it is right here in my web browser, There is tons of it from all over the place!" SUPPORT: "Ma'am, do you have a husband or teenage son..." CUSTOMER: "ugh, never mind. " She called back later and apologized, turns out she was looking in the browser history and her son or husband just got busted. --- I had another customer that lived near our office. One day he walks right in and says in a loud voice 'Are you fucking with the modems again?!!'. We went over to his house and he had the phone line disconnected from the modem. ugh, Too many ID10T errors

Try 'The GIMP' which is more like Photoshop than iPhoto but it is extremely powerful and free http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/ Or, just buy a faster Mac [url]http://www.apple.com/powermac/[url]

Of course it is possible, what the instructor failed to mention is the 752 way is performed inside a giant wind tunnel (currently being built in Arizona). The wind tunnel operator would slowly reduce the airspeed to bring the formation down onto their bellies. The hardest part is getting the planes into to the wind tunnel with out crashing thourgh the entrance way, its like flying through a hangar. We have ALL seen how well that works

Eradar: Carrion (lvl 33 Orc Hunter), Shishak (lvl 13 Undead Rogue) Arrgramar: Carrium (lvl 14 Human paladin). Yeah, I'm a geek, the game is one of the best MMORPGs I've played. The PVP stuff needs work but it will get there. DAoC RvR was better I hit lvl 11 in one night but I was grouped with my wife (2 computers, 2 accounts) and I played in closed & open beta. I'm 7 days /played since christmas :/

I'll be taking SDM down in a few minutes so I can install a new harddrive and OS. It will be back up, better than ever in a couple hours with LOTS of new space for all your uploading pleasure. Dave has also setup an advertising banner on SDM, put your ads up and help support this bandwidth hungry site.

Start with COLD water. If you put the egg into boiling water it will crack So... cold water, put the egg in, turn heat to high. Boil for 7 minutes (start the timer when the water starts boiling, not when you turn the heat on). Take off the stove, drain hot water and cool the egg as quickly as possible to stop the cooking process. I run mine under cold water for a couple minutes. 7 minutes for a hard boiled egg (whites & yoke solid) 3 minutes for a soft boiled egg (whites solid, yoke semi solid)

Damn, I'd hate to be a foot low on that approach
