Ive said goodbye to her about 100 times now, only to watch her talk me back into it. She is this blonde haired, blue eyed 22 year old chick with a real charming, outgoing personality that most guys cant shake loose of. Has had three serious boyfriends before me who all wanted to marry her, on the last one she put on the ring, said she felt weird, then gave it back to him. One of her friends told me that she has all these guys chasing her while there are girls who dont have anyone. Shes still living with her family, sorority girl with all her friends. She kept telling me in the past she's afraid of heights (climbing a hill is a big deal to her) so I cant take her mountain climbing, doesnt like big waves. ect. I never could talk her into anything extreme, but she has the potential for it. I just dont think the tennis player is going to last long, still think she is going to come to her senses sooner or later, once she decides to quit being afraid of everything and get out in the world. Her family interferes with her thinking alot, which is something I couldnt overcome. If she lived alone, I could talk her into things a little bit better.

Yea, youre right, I loved that girl like you cant even imagine. I never fall for someone like that, but she was a special person when I first met her. The sad thing is, she isnt the same person, and that girl I knew is gone. Talked to her on the phone yesterday, and her tone wasnt the same. She isnt the same. I just want to find one girl who isnt going to change on me like that, just one. Not 50, or 100, in a world of millions, just one. I think you may have something there on the first point. Now that I think of it, when I was talking to her on the phone yesterday, her tone kind of brightened up when I said I was going surfing next week, and kind of flattened out when I started talking about skydiving. Before that she started telling me I was crazy for continuing on with skydiving. The distance and her family were one thing, but it looks like that turned out to be the end-all kicker.

Take no offense Stylin, but at one point you wouldn't here any of us. You just couldn't understand us. You had to experience what we were talking about first hand before you could understand. It sounds like your friend has a little psycological trauma due to the death of a friend of her family in vietnam, and that shit's not easy to get over. Some people will NEVER skydive, and that's OKAY. Her family affects the way she thinks, I think its comming from them, again. It looks like this is another one of her dads stories in an attempt to keep her away from me. Yea, I want to pull her away from her family and he knows it. And why not? I dont want to be with her family, I want to be with her, and told her that. See, whoever is going to marry her has to marry her family too. They like the tennis player, he doesnt do things like skydive, he isnt "crazy". Lets talk about cutting away. She is 22, getting older, she has to cut away sometime. Isnt it getting about that time? Ive exhausted every single thing I could think of, what does it? I dont know.

Chris- I know that you have a habit of reading too much into things at times and I think that may be the case with this. I appriciate the links but I really have no interest in sky diving. A good friend of my family cured that along time ago. You see he was a paratrooper in Vietnam and things went all wrong. I have no desire to kill myself at 1300 ft. I would much rather die at the hands of King Triton. -J I knew it. So thats the reason why she decided to date a "tennis player", there it is. It all happened right when I told her I went skydiving the first time. If she would at least take the first jump she would see that this is a sport, this isnt Vietnam. She said she was considering it at one time. I didnt understand it at first, but after reading several posts on this forum, the way she is behaving is starting to all pan out. Its the same damn thing the others were saying. Shes' a 22 year old surfer chick in Jacksonville, athletic trainer, now going for her MBA. So maybe the story now is, cop out of sports and become an office drone married to a tennis player? Sorry baby, been there, done that, wasnt impressed with it back then, not impressed with it now. I cant talk to her any more. I was hoping I could get her to participate on this forum so maybe some of the others can drill some sense into her head. She just doesnt want to listen.

As of right now, it's gotten 159 people's attention according to the thread hits. I was talking about someone in particular.

theres your problem right there. Yea, get a Colt dude, if you can still find one around. You aint gettin' mine!!!

Interesting. If I had to figure this one out, I would have to put a few things together and draw a conclusion. looks like it has something to do with a fraternity, notice his last name "Greek", nickname "fraternity", calls you "brother" Taco Bell. Solaris, HPUX, Linux, AIX, Iris, Sangiro, - you worked at Taco Bell, maybe as a college student, had some involvement with Sun Solaris, HPUX, Linux, ect. in the past "Hi again, brother" - this guy knows you from the past OK, you were in a fraternity, this guy knows you from the same fraternity, he knows you for certain things, skydiving, tech skills, he's associating your name with operating systems and Taco Bell. Now the conflict: "Met his match in San Diego", "If you would have asked me to shut up, I would have done so. Instead, you get egotistical, and try to be a badass." Who do you know from the past, fraternity brother, had some kind of a contest in San Diego?

what is the best position for canopy foward motion?
stylin replied to andy2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thermal lift, ooo yes, remember that from the old days when I used to fly Cessnas. I forgot about that. Cant that affect the way a chute flies on a hot summer day or does it not? What about air pockets, any affect on the way a parachute flies? Turbulence? I remember this only happens at low altitudes, when you get up to 2000 ft it all becomes pretty calm. Havent noticed turbulence in the Cessna rides out at Marana, so if I ever parachuted in turbulent conditions then I hadnt noticed any difference. My guess is it only applies mainly to airplanes. -
I kind of figured this one would get someones' attention.

Would you jump with someone you suspected of being high?

Welcome to California. -
Yep, I get that impression, competitive. Thanks for the link. Here's the reqs on Skysurfing: To enter the Perris Valley Skysurfing School, you must have a minimum of 100 freefall skydives and hold at least a C License. What do they mean by this: You must also have at least 30 sitfly, freefly, or freestyle skydives. Also, Eloy says they have a world champion skysurfer on board, didnt say whether he instructs skysurfing or not.
-
Add to this one other thing...audible altimeters. If I get serioiusly into freefalls, there is no way Im going without one...when youre up there working out, its got to be too easy to lose altitude awareness. Take into account, if you have to be so concerned with it at all times, then you are concentrating less on whatever youre trying to practice. I have an altimaster-5, and along with that want an audible in the helmet. Anyone got any suggestions on that? Whats good and priced right? May be a while before I need it.

Followup from subject DZ Politics -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Reply To -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Reply To -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I asked about the skysurfing thing, something Im interested in, and how many jumps it takes to get there -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- nobody recommends you try it until you have a hundred jumps. And having 100 doesn't mean it a good idea for anyone. I have 500, and I would want more before I tried it -- it's another variable that can play into you error-margin. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The only thing they said in terms of this is it would definitely take more than 20 jumps. I specifically asked if it would be around 50 or 100, but got the same reply, that there is no number of jumps and it depends on how good you are. Im sure youre good at it Bets, wouldnt doubt that at all, but the point is you cant measure how good someone is by the number of jumps theyve had, which is what they were pretty much telling me. im going to ramble on for a minute. Last point, I would have never thought skydiving could be a competitive sport until now, going through these first several jumps totally reversed what I thought about it. And the next thing, Im competitive because I dont know how not to be. If I find out that I cant be competitive, then that will probably be the cue to walk away from it. Itll never be something I keep doing just for the hell of it because I never do anything just for the hell of it. And Im not expecting to be competitive, because Im not expecting to be any good at it. Its a good thing not to raise your expectations too high, that way, you wont be setting yourself up for a disappointment.

No man, dont just jump. First look down and go "cool", then look up, then swing out of the door, then go "yahoo, Im fucking superman!!!!" When you get down to 4000, then go "...but not really" and pull the ripcord. On the jump numbers thing. I asked about the skysurfing thing, something Im interested in, and how many jumps it takes to get there. They told me it isnt about the number of jumps, its about how good you are, you either got it or you dont, and if you dont you never will. We'll see if Ive got it after a few more. No point in trying to hard at a sport youre not any good at.

"Dude....brah....where you going?!!" -heard over radio in formation at the world record in Eloy, AZ December 2003. Bhahahhahahahahah.....I will forever have that image burned into my head. Yea Ill be there, dont wanna be square. Going home and going to bed, next week wave catching, long winter got me down. Gonna take off on swells this time for the long ride, but who knows, the skydiving stuff may take me into a new world, dropping the break this time, never know. Skydivers are the best shortboarders, you know it! Skydiving rules! Shortboarders rip!!! And longboarders play golf! Ha ha ha ha. Later dude

Hey, check out this subject on page two of this forum: mpeg skydiving videos - post here I posted a url to a live video feed of someone cutting away in a spin. Looks pretty awesome. Later dude.
-
Great story, thanks. Interesting, spinning violently and not hard to do a cutaway. What a relief, I had been kind of wondering about that. Did you have to look at the handles to find them or did you just find them? Sounds like something hit you in the face after cutting away.

Canadian Club, straight up. Need something that packs a little more.

...except that I get paid to screw around, so... I work on the DZ for a living, (tandems and selling gear), while I'm trying to get my singing career (opera singer) going. Hey, it beats a real job! Yea, well, just dont let me turn you into a surfer girl, youre supposed to be a skygoddess remember. I dont know, with "Dude", "Man", youre starting to get me worried. Time to go home, and Im "outta here", later dudes, dudettes, whuffos, skydivers, skygoddesses, and whoever else I didnt mention, its been real.
-
Oh man, I crack me up... Bets, see the last post, the one on "Dude". I dont know, something makes me think Im getting inside of your head this time. You rip!
-
Dude, you gotta clarify that you're speaking metaphorically here, or people'll get all over you again... "Dude"? No no no, got to take a few waves and get some salt water in your brain before you get to start talking like that. Around here only I get to say "Dude", you have to say "whuffo", lets try this: Whuffo, you gotta clarify that you're speaking metaphorically here, or people'll get all over you again........sound better? Speaking metaphorically here: cutaway - turn in your resignation reserve - the next job you have lined up cutaway first - quit your job without another job pull the reserve - start your next job after quitting the last, so no breaks in income hitting bottom - running out of money because you quit your first job without another lined up....now you cant go skydiving!!!

Where's the non-political one? I wanna go there! Eloy! Eloy has it's share of politics also, but due to the size and the amount of people who go threw there who aren't local whatever politics there are are usually hidden. Try going to a smaller DZ where there is a group of 20-30 regulars and very few visitors, then tell me there aren't politics. Just wait till you want to get on one of the "cool" loads and because you don't have 2000 jumps they laugh in your face. I'm actually really lucky, I can't remember ever not being able to get on a load I wanted to (well until I moved here that is), but I've seen it happen over and over again to people at every DZ and boogie I visit. Interesting. I try to stay clear of any politics. Shouldnt be too hard for me, I always act like Im in my own world. And I am!

If hes saying that about surfing, probably not. Id say he's fixing to get a wake up call, depending on what he does and how he does it. He may be like me, I stay out of everybodys way, so I get along with everybody. Believe it or not, thats importand. When you got bad vibes, you get bad results.
