I think that's part of being in the world. England fought for France, and in Africa, and Canada fought in the Battle of Britain, and a whole lot of other countries also fought in and lost soldiers in wars. The only thing that makes us "special" (well, that and that we're us) is that we're several thousand miles away from Europe; but Japan attacked us, and they were allied with Germany in WW2.
Many countries have shed blood for other countries. And the US is, most emphatically, among them. But it's not a contest to see who is first among them.
