    This isn't a debate that I want to jump too deeply into, but pathologists make life and death decisions every day. Who does the specimen report come from? The pathologist.... What they do requires far greater knowledge than what your local tandem master needs to know. Far fewer people are capable of doing their jobs. To make that comparison is really, really reaching.... linz I agree on the knowledge part as far as a TM is concerned, but I don't think many pathologists have been sued for malpractice by their patients. Ron has switched from knowledge and time spent learning to responsibility involving life as a reason for high MD pay. I submit that (a new PhD in chemical engineering + a TM) possess the same qualities in at least equal measure as a typical new MD but their combined incomes, on average, are less.     Unrealistic, as it doesn't account for unforseen emergencies. Imagine if our finances had been constrained by such a constitutional amendment immediately after Sept. 11, 2001... You need to be able to go into debt if an emergency calls for it. However, we should certainly pay that debt off during the good years, so that overall, over time, we run a balanced budget. Like you, I'm distressed by the continuous splurge spending, year after year, especially on the pork. I've prepared for unforseen emergencies in a way so that if one comes up, I won't need to go into debt. Why can't the gov't? because the % of votes needed to be elected to office is about the same as the % of credit card holders who pay only the minimum balance on their credit cards each month?     OK, but don't you think that the added resposibility of a persons life is worth extra income? I do. In that case, why don't AFF instructors and TMs get paid like MDs? Not all MDs deal with life or death decisions (pathologists?). And bad engineering can easily result in death (Bhopal comes to mind). Three times is enemy action

    Thanks, all. Got update to run after turning off a spyware shield. New problem - Windows Media V10 gets all the way to the end of the installation and then says it can't install, run it again. And again. And again... Three times is enemy action

    Spybot (free) is pretty good. As is Spysweeper (30 day free trial). Google will find download sites for each. Spysweeper found incredible amounts of crap on a PC the teenager was using. Three times is enemy action

    Just tried that site. That hangs it too! Have to ctrl-alt-del to escape. Tried restarting the PC - no difference. Odd thing is that the MS update sites are the only ones that do it! Three times is enemy action

    I'm running XP Pro on my laptop. Everything works fine EXCEPT that when I go to Windows Update, IE hangs. The only way out is ctrl alt del to the task manager to shut IE down. IE works fine on all other web sites I've tried. Is this wierd or what? Three times is enemy action

    How can you dismiss Keyes' statement? He is the official GOP candidate for the US Senate seat in Illinois, which means he was chosen by his party. He ran in the 2000 GOP presidential primaries. He may be an embarrassment, but he's the GOP's own embarrassment. Three times is enemy action
