... Canned air is nothing. Where I work, we have some shit thats like compressed arctic. Its meant for removing gum from walls and stuff, you just spray it on, and break it off. Its fun, you can freeze pens and drop them, and they shatter... you can freeze plastic bottles and drop then and they shatter... you can freeze the cat and drop it and it shatters... all kinds of fun stuff. I want some! -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'

When are you a turkey, lowtimer etc?

I thought it was funny looking at this from a pilot's perspective. We're students till we get licensed (obviously). Then to get your commercial ticket, you need 250 hours (Intermediate). And to fly twin turbines for a DZ, you need 1,000 hours. If you do a little math, an "advanced" skydiver with 1,000 jumps at 1 minute per jump, only has 16.667 hours of practice. I know some pilots that hadn't even soloed an airplane with that many hours... -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.' -

I talked with a local "CReW Dog" who said that they have sat around and tested all the different hook knives on actual lines with tension. He said that the "cheap plastic ones" always broke before cutting the lines. I would say if you're going to jump with a hook knife, make it metal or Jack the Ripper... -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'

I think I saw that somewhere too. If I have 1.17 and I'm waiting for 2.0 does that mean I have 83 updates to go? -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'

Ever feel like a real dumbass?

I messed up an 8-way hybrid this past weekend. Felt stupid, but I'll just remind you that the first 3 letters of funnel is FUN!! -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.' -
I like 1 and 4 the best. The gray ones look too much like student rigs to me. Have you thought about different color riser covers? We just got 5 new Vector 3 staff rigs at Aggieland and I think the colored riser covers break it up a bit. The piping on the main compartment looks better than without IMHO. Also, I'm not a big fan of the extended triangle look from the center main to the pin cover as on 2, 3, 6, 7, and 9. PS - Nice Screenname! -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'

I just got my Neptune on Wednesday, two days before out Casa Boogie. I was pretty happy cuz I got to use it 12 times in a couple of days. When we don't have visiting planes/pilots, I only jump probably once a week. Everything worked well on it. I did scuff the screen a little on the first day. I ended up putting a piece of clear mailing tape over the face to protect it from stuff like that. My only hope for the next revision will be the changeable target altitude. I have version 1.17 and couldn't figure out how to change it. It worked great this weekend cuz we went to 13.5 everytime but now that we'll be back to the Cessna, we'll be going to 11. -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'

Regarding the Lutz videos. I don't know if the original incorrect version was on RealTV or Maximum Exposure. I do know that Fox aired the same footage on "Stupid Behavior Caught on Tape" sometime this past summer. That version explained that he pulled the cutaway among other mistakes and was in general a dumbass (aka "Lutz"). -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'

If you have ever rode the plane down...
PilotMike replied to gatorbait's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've been jumping for over 7 years and have less than 500 jumps, flying jumpers for about a year and 3 months with close to 1,000 loads. If I was getting paid to jump, the numbers would be a lot different I think. -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.' -

I'll have my 1,000th jump flight in a month or so, it'd be cool to time it so I can do my 500th jump the same day, but I really doubt that'll happen. -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.' -

How Long Did It Take For Your "A"?
PilotMike replied to Fireflyer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Took me just under 1 year. I was a high school senior, going to Junior College 2 days a week and taking flying lessons 3 days a week. The weather in Kansas City usually gave one weekend a month or so that was what my dad and I considered jumpable during the winter and we'd only do 1 or 2 when we went out there... -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.' -
Yeah, when do they start to count as "skydivers?" Sounds like that would change multiple people's numbers (mine included). -------- Benefitting from the 'free capture of verticality.'

Yeah....but Jim....then I could have sent pics of the very fine pierced nipple boobies I saw Saturday night.
