  1. they are (Jetta's) are made in Mexico. Passat's are made in Germany.
  2. The new VW TDI diesels do not put out any black smoke or soot at all. if you were driving behind one.. you'd never know it was a diesel. looks just like any other car from the exhaust.
  3. well in that case, the 2005 Jetta's all come with dual airbags in dash and front / rear side airbags. just remember if your going to clean the car like I do by taking seats out, vacume everything & then re-installing the seats, be sure to disconnect the battery first then disconnect the plug under seat. if you don't.. when you tilt the seats to remove them.. the ALL airbgs will fire! I don't plan to wreck my Jetta, but you never know with all those damn Whuffo's out on roads...
  4. he said could got better mpg but he had keep stopping go to bathroom...on 1400 mile trip...
  5. Jen, you'll LOVE the VW TDI Diesels. I fill my VW Jetta TDI up about every 3 weeks. I fuel it and then drive it for 560 miles low fuel light will come on at 560 miles low fuel light = 1 gallon fuel left 1 gallon fuel = 45 mpg. with your driving I bet you'd fuel it up maybe once a month. see http://www.tdiclub.com/ lots information about the VW tdi's. one guy on passat on trip in cruise control got 1400 miles on one tank of fuel some 62 mpg at 55 mph
  6. Vw diesel up to 2003 are TDI the 2004 and 2005 on Passat and Jetta TDI are "Pump Duse" (PD) the older TDI had one big injection pump feeding all cylinders while new PD TDI's have own pump (for each cylinder get more power and little better mpg.
  7. why? I don't like gasoline motors. I love the diesel TDI I can't drive it slow on highway it'll run 100 mph EASY I usually drive it at 80 mph on highways. if I'd slow down on highways to 55 / 60 mph @ 1,800 ~ 2000 rpm's I'd get about 52 mpg! screw that 80 mph at 2,500 rpm's and still 41 mpg. Good enough for me. you won't know your driving a diesel. it runs just like a gasoline motor. but it has lot more low end torque ( Power) basiclly all you have to do it to is oil change every 10,000 miles fuel filter replacement every 20,000 miles (its size of Fosters beer can, just screws on / off) I bought a reuseable K&N airfilter which only needs be cleaned every 50,000 miles, but haven't installed it as my Jetta only has 12,000 miles on it. when orginal paper airfilter is dirty I'll put the K&N filter on. I have a 5 speed manual transmission. the VW TDI diesel motors should last you 400,000 miles easy if you change the oil & fuel filter. I used to own a 1979 VW rabbit diesel. it had 320,000 miles when injection pump went out. the new VW diesels are even better than old VW diesel motors. Go to the VW dealer and test drive on. the jetta TDI are 1.9L turbos diesel the passat TDI are 2.0 L diesels but the passat come only with Automatic. The passat have a lot more Torque / power than the Jetta TDI.The Passat is a bigger car too. I would have bought a Passat except they only come in Automatics . I wanted manual transmission. A Guy I work with bought a 2005 VW Jetta too. He uses it to / from work all highway driving he has 26,000 miles on it already its a automatic. He says he gets 46 mpg on his highway commute to / from work. I drive 75% my driving in town stop & go traffic still get 41 mpg.
  8. Your overall opinion of your VW? I bought a 2005 Jetta TDI diesel (A4 old body style, not new 2005 A5 redesigned body style) the dealer won't come down on price for diesel now fuel is high. I get about 41 mpg combinded city / highway driving and I drive 80 mph on highway. Have you had any problems with your VW? hood wouldn't open. Your overall impression of VW as a company? VW customer service still sucks. Your overall opinion of cost of upkeep on your VW? The VW Jetta and Passat TDI only need oil change at 5000 & 10,000 miles and then every 10,000 miles after that. need buy synetic oil with VW code 505.013 (something like that) on it. the VW TDI need no tune ups, just fuel filter change every 20,000 miles and oil change at every 10,000 (after 1st 5000 miles) and timing belt change at 80,000 miles. the VW TDI diesel motors should last 400,000 miles or more easy. They have lot of low end torque (power!) they are fast for a little diesel. winter time the glow plug preheat motor in less than 2 seconds.. starts right up. Would you buy another VW? only a deisel.

    16 again.....

Solo The Earth rolls beneath my wings, My mind dwells on other things. For as my nose points to the sky, I can’t believe I’m going to fly. The months of waiting over now, My instructor says that I know how. And as the spinning wheels break free, I wish that he were here with me. Higher, higher the tip is lifting, Racing thoughts, my mind is shifting, What’s that he say’s on the rate of climb? I wish we’d had done this one more time. Five hundred feet, its now time to turn, There’s still so much I have to learn. Ease the stick and then the rudder, The trick is not to make her shudder, One thousand feet, stay in the turn, This times there’s not as much concern. Throttle back and trim her out. Seems there’s less to care about. Close down wind check now just in case, Runway on the left someplace? Handle Down, powers set. Oh, God, I haven’t spoken yet. Close down wind I call out with my name, Why no answer? Is this a game? Radio’s set I know its right. Settle down, no time for fright “Gear Down” I say without a doubt. Final turn I can’t break out. Power back she starts to sink, Easy does it, time to think. Two third’s ground, one third’s sky. Jeez, I think I’m a little high. Turning final all most over. Aim at black top not at clover. Hold her level till the last. My! The runways moving fast. Hold the nose up, Gee I’m clever Seems like she wants to fly forever. Thump! I’m down – It feels so good. Nothing to it, I knew I could. Take heart my friend and have a try. For now I know that I can fly
  10. Sounds like the hardest part of jumping again is going to be convincing my pregnant wife that jumping is a good thing! umm.. good luck trying to convince her.. talk about hard job.. that's one..
  11. I would go to a lower wing loading if I were you.. but I'm a BE amputee but I've jumped with the leg amputees..

  13. I want to get OUT of Texas...
  14. I have a Ravan IV all red with white center cell. brand new never assembled on any rig, never jumped. can be used as a main or reserve (as its never been jumped) I was going to use it as reserve in my new Racer, but decided it was too big for me and went down as size on my reseve. I'm asking $600.00 plus shipping for it.
  15. I've never had anything except outstanding service from Jumpshack. They are great to work with. especally Nancy. when I got started in sport, in 1985 I was jumping my NEW vector at Deland and some of threading / stiching in leg strap was getting loose. Talked Bill Booth he said bring it to shop on Monday and he'll fix it. this was a friday afternoon, John Sherman of Jumpshack did the work for me in 5 minutes at no Charge. Never forgot. after buying a Talon I finally went back to a new Racer. Glad I did and the service from Jumpshack has always been great. Can't say that for uninisured RWS. They [RWS] lost my business forever.
  16. I wanted take Scott 's course. He'll be here in Texas next weekend at Skydive Dallas,June 24~26 but group classes don't work good for me I'd need an sign language interpiter or one on one class with Scott. I've heard lot of good things about his course, just haven't been able to find out myself...
  17. normally those last row seats are crew rest seats unles the flights sold out.
  18. you did the right thing. YOU made your decesion, and didn't waste your time. you cutaway & pulled your reserve. Your friend was wrong. Your right you would have been wasting time turning stop the turn, then only to find your self below your hard deck for cutaway / reserve pull. If you ask me. YOU DID do the right thing. way to go. Mike
