I think we will be having the party that we would have had, just because it isnt going to hit here (hopes)..if that makes sense This is my first year in Wilmington and I am sooooo happy that its down to a category 2 and possbily even going to miss us.. at least 1000mg of Vit C and get some zinc and echinacea in you. (A health food store or good pharmacy will have these) They should help witha speedier recovery. Wow: I am so sorry to hear that you went through all of that. It certainly takes time, it took me over two years too. Unfortunately, its hard to be the bigger person and walk away from it all, but it sounds like you made some very hard decisions and walked away with the love of your daughter, your pride and the knowledge that your daughter is being looked after by her mother, in a more appropriate manner. Hey now: Not all women are like that ;) When My ex (who I emigrated from the UK for)left me he took..(are ya ready to weep?) The Truck.. The Boat The 4 wheeler The road bike (originally my RGV 250) The dirt bikes (including the TTR bought for me :( he moved to Pismo Beach CA, with his girlfirend. I was so emotionally tired that I let him take it all so that he would stop bullying me and go away. I decided that my soul was worth more than all of that and settled for: my car (which was mine anyway) my rig (which had to go and live at the dropzone as he threated to burn it [:|, obviously not a jumper) and my cat who had been around for longer than he had! Now If I could just get my dirt bike, road bike and fourwheeler back..KillaBee and I would be, erm I think the expression is..S**tting in tall cotton. Is it worth talking to the other person on the two way about taking you on more dives? Most people are approachable if you are honest with them. I agree with the mentoring idea: find someone who will do smaller dives with you, but is respected enough at the drop zone to get you on bigger stuff when you are ready. When i started I was lucky enough to be taken under the wing of another female jumper (Thanks Froglady ;) We did a bunch of two ways and then she organised a special 6 way with camera for me, when i thought it was only the two of us. It proved to be the a great friendship and I dragged into the world of boogies and rw by this awesome gal. There are usually a group pf people who are more than happy to jump with newer jumpers. We were all there once, right? Consider having an action plan before you talk to other jumpers about jumping with you. Ask them if they will jump with you to work on your turns levels or something else that you want to improve. Perhaps there is someone who is thinking of going for their coaches or AFF rating who would like to practice their skills with you? Its not easy breaking into a new group, but be yourself and be honest. If you want to gain peoples respect, show them your credibility and your worth. Alternatively if you want to gain peoples attention show them your boobs. (This may not be the way to gain the respect of both sexes at the dropzone:) Most of all, remember that you can only control actions and skydivers are only human: You may find out that some of the people that do not warm to you as quickly as others are just more cautious and may turn out to be better friends in the long run. (insert wistfull sigh..That's my boy! ) Although one of Killa's last *shield incidents* was on a hybrid dive :) Jackson's nose didnt come off so well, as I recall :) After receiving foot to face contact a few times, I am glad that I am protected by my full face with visor. We all push the envelope when we ae learning new skills and sometimes it doesnt look pretty. I agree with the dark glasses comments too: So much of our airborne communication is through eye contact and it makes a difference being able to see the other jumpers eyes. I think that this would be a great event for someone to check out, regardless of jump #s. The labor day boogie is always fun and this is a special event for the dropzone. My advice would be to come to the boogie as early as you can to familiarise yourself with the dropzone before it gets too busy. Its much easier to get used to a new place when there are less canopies in teh sky around you. I only had 37 jumps when i went to my first boogie, which was a pretty busy event. (the Easter Boogie 2001) It helped me a lot to get on the plane with people that I knew and trusted and to become comfortable with the landing area while it was quiet. There are always people to jump with at the dropzone in the week, if you are thinking of coming to CSS. Talk to one of the coaches or JMs when you get there.
