Did you miss that they laid out tarps? Or am I not getting something here? I don't really see a problem there. If they were kicking up dust or something I could see a problem. Nice work Baseman and carpediem. Just curious, but why the decision to pack there, and not at a more comfortable place, like say carpediem's Appartment? Just to save time, or was it so that you could go on Dorkzone and post this poll?

Weather was really nice. A little chilly, but no snow anywhere. The hike to the exit point was not an issue in terms of sketchy areas with ice. Think it's global warming or something. Andrew

I noticed that afterwards too. Got a good chuckle out of it. I wore a Pro-Track as well, in my pocket. It didn't read anything, as I only did a 5 second delay. I think it has to be over 1000' of freefall before they read anything. Didn't ask him if he got anything.

Good Luck Dave. Have a great time, and try to turn into one of those military brats. Look me up when you get back. Andrew -
Interesting story Nick. I enjoy reading about the history of our sport every once in a while. Couple questions for you: Maybe I missed something, but what does it really have to do with the topic? Is this something you wrote before and are reposting, or just something you felt you had to get off your chest? Background checks, background checks, background checks, please!

I can vouch for this beyond the call of duty helpfulness. Not that he needs it. I have stayed at His place, been PCA'ed by him off that local bridge, been helped in getting my 'E' by him, and been the recipient of said body armor. He has gone above and beyond. I only hope I can be as generous in my way. Thanks again man, by the way I just bought a full face, and am going to order the following armor: http://www.sixsixone.com/Catalog_661Bike.aspx?id=a9fc2642-7c61-44a1-9b87-c978ce9f925a&product=320c420e-9789-4296-a5d9-c9478f4b4880 http://www.sixsixone.com/Catalog_661Bike.aspx?id=cb6c4b16-bd4a-41c8-bcf6-ff2fadc22560&product=448446cd-97bf-4458-98e1-3023521b39f3 What do you think? -

Somebody posted the episode on Skydiving Movies: http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=5311&d=addgp&u=7686 Pretty cool stunt. Now I know what Jimmy was talking about back in September when he said he was doing a bunch of bungee jumps and couldn't say why. Anyone heard from the injured jumper? Looked pretty bad. Looked like he hooked it in for some reason...

So... Did anyone see it? Just curious.

I took these of one of the German jumpers I met up with will in LB on Saturday. Turned out pretty good. I like the sequence of the two.

I did catch the true meaning, thanks. I'm not that thick. That was my attempt at humor. Hence the smiley winky thing. Education: that which reveals to the wise, and conceals from the stupid, the vast limits of their knowledge. - Mark Twain

Because Norway is easier and cheaper to get to. (sadly) I struggled with this for a bit. I am a proud Canadian, and I felt like I should take advantage of the massive cliff in my own 'backyard'. Logistics and money just didn't work out this year. But it is a trip that I plan on making one year. Your freaky video you posted didn't do much for me, but it didn't change my mind. I have a lot of gear to buy and a lot of training/mountaineering to do before that though. As I don't have much for experience in that department. I take offense to that. Well not really. Just thought it was funny. That nickname was given to me long before I started BASE jumping. The Direct bag, as I understand was quite popular for a while, but went out when the PCA was discovered? I think that is it still used for some ultra-low testing type stuff, and some cool backwards launching stuff that I was pics of in here recently. I think they use some wacky Celsius temperature system up there in Canada... It is different, but we and the rest of the world use it, you are the wacky ones. By the way, -40 celsius = -40 fahrenheit. That is the place they are the same. And it does get that cold up here from time to time. I don't think that there are enough people on this site doing low wingsuit jumps to make this a meaningful poll. Just a hunch. I wonder how many people that vote actually have that experience either. Asking for individual to give reasons that they prefer each choice may give you more concrete help. Edit to add: You might want to define 'low' as well.

You have a point. From the seemingly wild canopy control, I was really surprised that neither of them hit anything. Mind you, we didn't see the landing areas, or the set up, really. So, I think it's tough to pass judgment without context. Maybe they were great landings, considering they had to do things like dodge cars or something. (I sincerely doubt that though, they looked out of control) Education: that which reveals to the wise, and conceals from the stupid, the vast limits of their knowledge. - Mark Twain

I will be in Zurich from Sunday February 18th to Wednesday February 21st. Also in Bern Thursday Feb 22nd to Sunday Feb 25th. Any locals up for going for a Beer any of those times? Also I am thinking about heading out to LB for that last weekend (24-25). Would it be worth it just to go and watch? Is anyone planning on being there that weekend? I don't think I'll be doing my first slider up jumps in LB, as I am likely going to Norway in July. Let me know, PM, or on here. Thanks Andrew

From the Article: Can someone explain this to me? I really don't get it. My only thought was something to do with increased security, if there was a jump that happened on their building. Seems like a big stretch if that is what he was describing.

The clip that he was talking about came up for me. It is guys on skis hucking huge cliffs. 210', 230' and 245'. That second guy is so lucky. Last guy overrotated and landed on his neck/shoulders at best, looked more like his head. Jamie Pierre is the last guy. I found another video of a close call of his: http://broadbandsports.com/node/754 Education: that which reveals to the wise, and conceals from the stupid, the vast limits of their knowledge. - Mark Twain

Is there a story behind the first one? He looks pretty shocked or something.

That jumper (I assume you only had one student that did that) is a friend of mine. That is probably part of why he isn't BASE jumping anymore. I think that BASE might have been just one of those things he wanted to try, but we might never know now. I'm pretty sure that freaked him out pretty good. Great guy though, and in better shape than most people I know. (not that that has anything to do with it)

Sorry, but I consider that bullshit. I've said this a million times, and I'll say it again; landing a BASE canopy on rear risers is the easiest thing on the world. Anybody who biffs in at the Perrine while flaring with rear risers is a fucking tool and shouldn't have jumped in the first place. Btw, I'm a shitty pilot. While that may be true. I think the more important point, rather than 'landing a BASE canopy on rears is hard' is that 'landing a BASE canopy on rears is different than landing a small elliptical canopy on rears'. For those of use with more skydiving experience than you, (most people on here, haha) this might be something to think about. I know it has reminded me to try some landings on my BASE canopy on rears in a nice controlled environment. Probably better than figuring out the differences after I drop a toggle on a low jump. (not that I'm planning on it) Edited to add: Tom beat me to it. Education: that which reveals to the wise, and conceals from the stupid, the vast limits of their knowledge. - Mark Twain

So by this you mean it is similar to a regular Troll? That is the part that messed me up, I'm thinking. Glad to hear I was not confused for no reason.
