I've got it! I've figured it all out. It's all so obvious now! I know why you've put all these posts up! You want your foreskin back don't you.

I would have put a lot of money down if anyone asked me to bet before the hurricane if people would have considered your suggestion theft. [not that it would have been terribly appropriate of course]. Imagine the scene: A NO resident is sat in his yard opposite the kiddies bus depo. He watches a guy wander over to a bus, smash in the door with a crow-bar and start to hotwire the thing. NO resident challenges the would-be-thief: "what in the hell do you think you're doing there boy?". "I gotta steal this bus - I got no car and the mayor says to get outa town". "too bad boy, should have thought about that before you were poor. Aint no one going to steel no kiddies bus from behind my yard [cocks shotgun]". "but I got no other form of transport, I'll die here in the floods". "too bad boy, better get on walking outta town now before the winds come" [thief tries to drive off anyway and promptly gets one twelfth of a pound of lead in his side] Cops turn up and congratulate the citizen for preventing a thief from steeling city property. Taking a bus might not seem too bad an idea in hindsight. At the time I bet there would have been plenty of people willing to shoot you dead for attempting to thieve from the city during an impending emergency. Even now with the benefit of hindsight there are people posting here who have stated they would shoot looters on sight, be they taking water, plasma TV’s or even busses.

I wish the price of gas in the UK would DOUBLE overnight
mr2mk1g replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Speakers Corner
No one should mind at that point cos if they used to drive a 20mpg guzzler and now drive a 40mpg car they are paying just as much at the pumps as when gas was $2/g. So don't buy more. There's no reason at all to drive more than when gas was cheap just because they have a car which gets 40pmg. If they drive the same amount as when they had $2 gass and a 20mpg guzzler then they pay the same. No one forces them to drive more than when gas was cheap. -

That's what I remember too I think. -

Just look at the thread further down this very page, here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1811823#1811823

[Cartman]Goddamnit Kenny stop being so goddamn poor. If a hurricane comes and you die it'll be all your fault.[/Cartman]
-
Yup; there's a lot of blame to go round. There's even a good deal of blame for those jumpers with rigs. I just don't see it all the fault of the jumpers without rigs for not choosing to jump outa a plane without a parachute. Now I think we've fully exhausted that analogy... reality is far less confusing. BTW you do realise there's a lot of people on this board who would have shot you for "looting" a school bus right? Besides, at the time you're supposed to be stealing the bus, the storms not hit and nothing's flooded yet. I'd bet some of the people shooting at you wouldn't have thought the storm was going to be as bad as predicted and just think they're taking out some punk ass looter.

The main "toxic" element of the water is it's full of disease. Nature will take care of that in time... the important thing is that people don't swim around in it or inadvertently consume it.

Where should they have walked to? The dome was full - so full in fact there were people stood outside chanting help us remember. Should the able bodied have sat on a hillside trying to dodge debris?
-
I find it hard to agree that a little old granny was supposed to walk out into what she knew were going to be 180mph winds and that if she didn't she should just resign herself to death. Hey maybe she should have walked, perhaps her O2 tank would have stopped her being blown away. This isn't a made up scenario – these people were there. There was a Brit guy on the news weeping about how several of the residents in the OAP home he stopped to help out died as they waited on help. They couldn't get out before hand on their own – they had no transport. The city was going to send a bus but no bus came. The little old grannies could hardly stand never mind walk out into the countryside knowing they were going out to face a storm.
-
Lisa; how is that the fault of the individual granny in the OAP home? Gawain was specifically responding to a question about how many of those who stayed CHOSE to do so with the suggestion that anyone left behind should have just walked out into the countryside and sat about getting skewered by flying debris.
-
I think the point they're raising is: What about the skydiver who didn't own their own rig, couldn't afford to rent one, and the DZ wouldn't provide them with one even though their kit store was full of hundreds of unused rigs and was about to be flooded?
-
Hang on; I just want to get this straight in my head. You want elderly people to start walking out into the countryside, with no place to go to other than "to higher ground" when they KNOW a hurricane is coming with 180mph winds. You want a bunch of old folks to be sat on a hillside looking out over their flooding city saying to one another "oh, I'm glad I'm not down in that flood Marjorie" while winds blow round their draws at 180mph??? You do realize their cards would all blow away when they tried to pay patience right?

Anyone know where these words come from?

Cool. Do you know when it's being aired? Note to all: if you want to listen to it, Radio4 have a very good listen again section on their website where you can stream programs from the last week over the net. -

Yeah, maybe not. Looks like I had the Langar map zoomed in one click. Whoops. Been a while since I've been to Langer. The two look pretty much identical in area in these two shots (assuming the whole airfield at Langer is "in"): Langer Weston As you say though, neither should be of any concern to DZJ. -
'cos it gives me a hard on.

Bought my 300D in February specifically with a view to jumping it. I put it on my head for first time two weeks ago and put a few thousands shots through it on the ground in the meantime. I remember speaking to you actually at the time actually about how I was buying in order to learn how to use an SLR before I tried to fly the thing. I got some fantastic shots at a BBQ I had on Saturday night with a fully manual lens. I'm not willing to shell out for a fully auto lens just yet; after all I'm not getting paid to shoot, just doing it for fun. Therefore I have to learn how to use what I am willing to afford.

Westons landing area is several times the size of Langers landing area. -
Yes, very normal behavior. It's called "sniping". You can probably find out more than you'd ever want to know about the tactic by googling the term. People won't bid till the last 30 seconds if they're serious. People who bid earlier simply drive the price up. If you're not happy with the bike going for the price it currently is, withdraw it and put a reserve on it (or up the start price). IIRC you're allowed to as there've been no bids yet. I'm not saying it won't go for a lot more than it's currently listed for – it might well double or triple in price in the last 5 minutes... but then maybe no one will be at all and someone will pick up a bargain for not a lot more than it is now. Point is, you won't know till it's too late to do anything about it.
