I sold this one for $500. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

It was legal for about 6 weeks on a trial basis in 1980.You had to have a D lic. And apply for a back country permit. There 8 slots a day and you had to be off the rock by 8:00 am. This required you sleep on top the night before. The rules were simple and presented no problem. But there were a few that couldn’t be bothered. There were people sneaking up and jumping at night, riding bicycles over the edge, jumping with pogo sticks, leaving trash all over the place and generally acting like assholes. They made no attempt to go along with the program and after 6 weeks the Rangers had enough and closed it down. The bandit jumps has continued off and on since then. Almost hit by a Plane!
mjosparky replied to Jockeyshifter63's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
From 12,500 feet it would take the jumper a little over 3 minutes to reach 1,500 feet, both freefall and canopy time. At 150 mph the plane would have been a little over 8 miles away. I doubt anyone could have picked it out at that altitude and distance. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Reserves and manufacturers' MSW - & reserve selector
mjosparky replied to degeneration's topic in Gear and Rigging
This is a quote from AC-105-2D: (1) Assembled parachute components must be compatible. Each component of the resulting assembly must function properly and may not interfere with the operation of the other components. For example: (a) Do not install a low-volume canopy into a high-volume container, since it could adversely affect the proper functioning of the entire parachute assembly. Likewise, do not install a high-volume canopy into a low-volume container. While Advisory Circulars are supposedly advisory in nature ignoring them can lead to a Violation under Part 91.13. Reserves and manufacturers' MSW - & reserve selector
mjosparky replied to degeneration's topic in Gear and Rigging
The canopy was tested at 264 lb. the minimum test weight allowed by TSO-C23d. It is certified or TSO’d to 220 lb. The 176 lb. is the manufactures opinion of what would be a safe weight for an advance canopy pilot to safely land the canopy. In the US it is a violation to exceed the certified weight. I don’t know about the UK. Things to consider when picking a reserve are experience, keeping the W/L below about 1.1 and how many jumps you have on a LoPo 7 cell. For someone who has nerve jump one they can be unforgiving. They don’t fly or land anything like the present day 9 cell ZP canopies. The way you should go about buying gear is to pick the appropriate canopies for your experience and comfort level and then order a container to fit them. Is it too late to change you order? Sparky I have never head of anyone landing a reserve and complaining that it was too small. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

What he did say was that the guy did not know how to fly the canopy. Are you trying to say that he does? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
I was jumping a Big Man Piglet then. Went from pilot chute to parachute chute right now. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Which Military job does the most skydiving?
mjosparky replied to jephprospect's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I doubt if any military group makes more jumps a year than the GN completion team. 10 or 12 a day. Maybe as many as 1000 a year. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Close your eyes and count slowly count to 10. Have someone check you with a watch. This is the amount of time it will take you to reach 2,500 feet. I you deploy there you should be in the saddle by 2,000 feet. Don’t let it get in your head. You are in charge if you take charge. Do it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

You are old enough to remember doing 10 way speed stars from 4,500/5,000 feet out a beech. And most of the time everyone would be open by 2,000. Well most of the time. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
