  1. I have been saying this for years. You have an organization run by DZO’s for the benefit of DZO’s. As you said the average dues paying member is at the bottom of the food chain and their needs are the last to be considered. They started charging for jump wings and free fall badges but can loan $10,000 to a TBN entity. It just doesn’t make good sense unless you are the one receiving the loan. 3. On one round robin we boarded Spike Yarder’s D-18 and Van Nuys and flew to Taft and jumped. Packed up and went to Santa Nella and jumped, packed and flew to Corning. Last 2 jumps of the day was at Pope Valley. In the morning we flew to Sheridan, OR. This was Ted Mayfield’s dz. We made 3 jumps there and spent the night. On Sunday on the way home we made 1 jump at Taft. Damn they were fun. Sparky http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/pp55/mjosparky/Skydiving/SpikesBeech.jpg My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  4. I went back and re-read the Editorial again and you are right. The loan is to be USPA and the Team Fund. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. Yes I do. The company I worked at the time, AERO, conducted most of the tests using a King Air. I did most of the live jumps on it for the TSO. We test the standard aircrew, one for the E2-C and one for the P-3 Orion. We spent over 2 years doing testing on various configurations of the system. 6. Who is the US Team? Will they change every year? As I understand it the funds to make this loan are coming from the U.S. Parachute Team Trust Fund. “USPA established the U.S. Parachute Team Trust Fund in 1986 for the benefit of amateur parachuting team competition. The tax-exempt fund holds all donations in irrevocable trust and the interest it earns is distributed evenly to U.S. Teams for international competition.” The only part of this fund that can be used is the interest and that already goes to the US Team. Am I missing something here or is the BOD taking funds out principal? Can someone from USPA clarify this? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. Good question! I have no idea... Also, remember that the B-12 was allowed to have a pull force up to 28 lbs also. I would have to look it up but i think it was the only military rig to allowed that high of a pull force. The NB-6 could be also included, but I simply do not remember for sure. MEL The NB-12, the NB-6 and most other military rigs are not required to pass TSO testing. To my knowledge this is the only crew system with TSO-C23d certification. 8. This is the straw that broke my back. My membership is up at the end of the year. I think this will be my last year of paying dues and being treated like a step child. 36 years. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  10. FAA-H8083-17, Parachute Riggers Handbook, pages 5-5 to 5-10, gives detailed instructions on how to inspect and fake a round. It should be no problem for a rigger candidate working under a certified rigger to come up with a round to learn on. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  12. The “old farts” that take the time to give advice have too many memories and stories of friends who wouldn’t listen and died because of it. The young guns that have the “I know what I am doing” attitude haven’t seen their buddies bounce 4 feet off the ground and land in a heap. It’s sad to say but some of us are here because of the lessons we gleaned from the deaths and life changing injuries of others. But we learned and survived. It’s a good thing that most jumpers move on after about 3 to 5 years or the body count would over the top. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  14. This statement has always bothered me. You can’t throw a PC at 120 mph. The best you can do is to make sure you don’t release the PC until you are at full arm extension and your arm is on the same level as your body. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  15. Its not that I dont ever wanna have a D, or that I dont want to give money to USPA. The only reason is that I have not need it yet. I will get it eventually when I decide to work on my PRO rating. Thats the only USPA rating Im interested in having and its ok to require a D for that. In fact, I think they should require more for a PRO rating, but thats another issue Now we see. You will get if it’s for something you want. Well if you want your Gold Wings…..guess what. You don’t get to pick and choose which rules/requirements to follow. If you don’t like the way things are make an effort to get them changed. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  17. Ordering new forms is cheap. The BOD in their zeal to cut costs chose to take away member benefits. I wonder what benefits were cut from the Group Member program. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  18. If that is in fact true than Ed Scott needs to be reined in by the BOD. They need to explain to him that he was hired to run the office, not make policy. The proposal as presented in Parachutist is totally unacceptable. USPA needs to get back to being responsive to the “regular” members. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  20. You have 2 things going on when you go to open your parachute. One is deployment and the other is inflation. Deployment for simplicity is from the time the bag leaves you back until you have line stretch. Inflation starts when the canopy starts coming out of the bag until you have a full canopy. Basically nothing that happens before the canopy comes out of the e bag affect the inflation sequence. Obviously there is a lot more going on during this time but that’s about all the average skydiver can digest at one sitting. Line dump on a sports rig is really just an urban legend. I made this bag in the early 90’s to prove a point and put 1000+ jumps on it. Never had a problem with it.
