  3. True statement. However, the fact of the matter is that unless you calculate the winds at altitude using the formula you won't know where the actual "spot" on the ground is. What skydivers/pilots pretty much do across the board is fly over the DZ into the wind on jump run(cross wind if applicable) and guesstimate on how far from the peas the first group needs to leave. Not an exact science IMO. The second point is, unless the pilot is using a GPS he will not know where 5/10ths past the peas is unless he is able to look down at the ground and is familiar enough with the area to make that determination. More importantly, the average skydiver looking out the door of the A/C has no knowledge of what the winds aloft are or where 5/10ths after might be. So basically what you have is a skydiver who looks out the door to orient himself to where the DZ is, look for other A/C if he is heads up and then jumps when the green light comes on. That is called orienting oneself to the DZ not spotting. As far as I know the only ones teaching TRUE spotting is the Military. You are right. There is a big difference between calculating a "release point" and what sport jumpers consider spotting. If done right, you not only determine a release point + or - form the target, but you also determine what course to fly on the in run. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  4. There is no defensible reason for it. The smaller the canopies in question are the more it goes against common sense. Sparky Although my reserve is smaller than my main, it is still larger then most mains. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. There was song out a few years ago that says it all: "Older women make beautiful lovers Older women they understand, Older women make beautiful lover Older women know how to please a man".
  6. What is the meaning of "control"? How do you feel about that time limit change? Me? I have been on a number of big way events. Some have been a success, some have not, because of the 3 second rule. I admit, I was disappointed when the formation wasn't held long enough to make a new record. But I was overjoyed when the record was made and we were within that 3 second rule. IMO, I liked the time rule. This way there wasn't a question as to if we got the record or not. I think people will push the meaning of "control" in order to get new records. Again, it's just how I feel. There used to be a thing called the California rule. If you could get a picture it counted. I was on the 64 way at Perris and it was heart breaking. You have to remember we did that with jumpsuits as big as Hobby Cat sails. There is one guy, Tony from CN on the 372 attempts with just over 900 jumps. I have jumped with on a couple of big ways and he is good. Sparky Mar, he was at the TX pops and at Perris last year. 7. You were not in my spotting class at the hills? I thought you were? Kelly was, and so was Dagny Spotting is a dyeing art and is becoming more and more so every year. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  9. I think they are of more value in smaller faster ways...I would do a 100way without booties much sooner than a 4way without booties. Maybe. For my part, I like to be able to get well away from the others at breakoff on a big way. Booties help enormously. As far as I'm concerned they are a safety accessory for big ways. On big ways, fear can sometimes make up for the lack of booties at break off. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Pay attention, he admitted he bet on his own team. Now he says he never bet against them. Betting on baseball has been a life sentence since the "Black Socks" in the early part of the century. Rose screwed up, don't to the crime if you can't to the time. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. You haven't paid for a pack job at Perris lately have you? They charge $6 for the small stuff now. Is everything more expensive out there? Anything over $5 is a rip-off and not worth your money. It's just a pack and shouldn't be almost 40% the cost of a jump ticket. I see no reason for a $6 or $7 pack unless you are trying to lose more customers. What a brialliant move Well, at least I know it would be easy to steal biz at $5/pack out there. All forms of business could use more people with your integrity. We are becoming a service oriented society but no one wants to provide "service". I would be proud to have you pack for me. He knew the rules going in. He gave up his spot in baseball and the hall of fame by his own actions, not those of someone else. He has told so many lies in the past how do know when he's not lying. Now he comes off like a whining little league brat. jmo Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  18. Sorry Barry, if you can't handle the work, move on. When packers first came on the scene, they did it all. Now that it is popular to use a packer many want to find shortcuts to get in more pack jobs. As a rigger how would you like it if I asked you to straiten out, hang and inspect the canopy before I packed it. I'll take string cheese with that "wine". Sparky And charging $6 for a larger canopy amounts to the same thing. Hell, most big canopies only have 7 cells. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  21. I agree, if you can get the band around the lines by hand, 2 times, 3 times, or what ever, it will not stop the deployment of your canopy. At 120 mph + or - the band or tube stow with break if it hangs up and the line stow will be free. Take the biggest fattest stow band you can find, grab it with just your index fingers and pull till it breaks. Not that hard really. Other then the locking stows, which hold the bag closed until line stretch, the rest of the stows just keep the lines neat during packing. jmo Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  22. Years ago, before the advent of riser covers, manufactures used Type 7 for the front reserve riser and Type 8 for the rear. The theory being that when packed the front rise was exposed to UV and the rear riser was not. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
