I know a few people here in the NE that are wearing disposable surgical type gloves as liners. I haven't tried this yet, but they swear it makes a hell of a difference. Good luck. - Jim

Ouch. That sucks. I landed in a tree once - scared the hell out of me. I was _lucky_ to escape with nothing more than a sprained ankle and a canopy full of leaves, and bruised pride. Since that experience I've become a bit more cautious about making it back from long spots. These days if it looks questionable I look for an out immediatly, then, to remove all doubt about where I'm going to land I spiral down, set up for landing and walk away every time. Let's hope that Pyke makes a speedy and complete recovery. - Jim

There was another thread about this in the "Saftey and Training" fourm a while back. Look here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forums/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=forumsafetytraining&Number=52521&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&part= for more information. - Jim

Harold and Maude was a _great_ movie. Absolutely great movie, everyone should see it at least once. Fandango. Heh. That was a good one.

I've recently thought that I might like to get a pilots license, but I can't afford another expensive hobby. - Jim

Damn right you'll know when you have one. Back in my student days I remember the wave off, the pull, and the gun shot. It turns out that the gun shot was actually my canopy opening, immediatly. Had a friend with a Sabre who was routinly smacked by that thing - he got to the point one day where he was ready to quit jumping because of the pain. Yeah - you'll know when it comes, and you'll wish it never had. Blue skies, soft openings... - Jim

Hey Lori, I tried to respond with a PM, but it didn't work, so what the hell, I'll do it here. I jump at Cross Keys, but lately we've had quite a few of the Jersey Shore folk come down and join us. It's kind of funny, some of them are amazed when they see planes that hold more than 4 people and get to altitude in 15 minutes. Who do you know from there? You can email me directly at: jim_mutter@yahoo.com. - Jim

Mmmm.. Dinner..... Can't wait for desert.

I currently jump at Cross Keys. Why? * Great people, good vibes. * Excellent facilities. Some of the best I've seen. * Fast planes and plenty of them. * Some cool 'specialty' aircraft. Bi-plane, occasional helocopter. * It's close to home. - Jim

Disclaimer: I've never done a balloon jump, but I did talk to a balloon pilot about jumping once. He told me we would take off, float around until we found someplace nice to land, then get out. Not very scientific, but apparently it's worked for him in the past. - Jim

Only 100 jumps on a square canopy _and_ a D license? I'm guessing that sometime there was a lengthy layoff from the sport? Anyhow, my limited experience suggests that you're more likely to experience the effects of turbulence under a lightly loaded canopy. Most often this means a larger canopy. Smaller canopies, with greater forward speed do a better job at maintaining pressurization of the individual cells, when the cells remain pressurized we don't seem to notice the turbulence quite as much. Just my $0.02 - Someone correct me if I'm wrong. - Jim

You've got a Safire right? Doesn't the owners manual actually tell you to Psycho Pack? Do it. It's easy. It's as easy as it gets. - Jim

Kelly ran off to Eloy a few weeks ago with nothing but a rig and fat wad of cash. I suspect we'll hear from her when she gets back. - Jim

Anyone flown both the Sabre2 and Safires of similar sizes? I'm curious how the Sabre 2 compares to the Safire with regards to forward speed, glide, turns, landings, etc... Thanks for the responses so far, maybe I should have mentioned, I have a Safire now. I'm more curious to know how to Sabre 2 compares to that. Thanks, Jim

No justification necessary. I'm jealous. - Jim

45 degrees is freezing? It's a little chilly, but come on! I think we need to get the names of all involved here and invite them to a day of jumping in Febuary in New Jersey.

The following quote is from another thread in the Safety and Training fourm next door. The author is Bill Von. What exactly does UV do to a modern ZP canopy? Does the fabric actually become porous? Does it keep it's ZP qualities but become weaker? At what point is the degradation noticable? At what point does it become a problem? - Jim

Depends on the container. You're best bet is to call the manufacturer and ask. - Jim

Thanks Rob. I had my rigger show me how to set the brakes over the weekend and it's simple enough that I'm comfortable doing it myself. Since I can't have him standing over me while I do this I was hoping to have another source of documentation to double check my work against. Well, that and I find rigging interesting anyhow so it would be nice to learn more about it... - Jim

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a site or sites with very basic rigging info or documentation. Specifically, I'm looking for descriptions of a few of the more simple things like how to attach toggles, set brakes, etc.. Things that a regular jumper should be able to do without the assistance (and bill) of a rigger. - Jim

Since we've learned that the term 'elliptical' can mean anything from a tapered leading edge, to a tapered tail, to a completely tapered wing, I'm curious - how are Cobalts designed? Thanks Dan, Jim

Never had that much waiting on a roll of the dice, but I've had close to $200.00 of my money riding on the luck of draw. Friendly poker game among friends my ass. - Jim

***on our demo's particularly the larger sizes are do not have long brake lines. typically these larger size demo's are jumped at lighter loadings/*** Just curious, what's your definition of 'lighter loadings'?
