  1. As someone who is currently in IT, and has been before, during, and after the bubble I find your statement to be 100% correct. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  2. Unless there's a specific issue you're trying to correct performing a BIOS update won't usually buy you much except wasted time, stress, and a potentially dead PC. Something to think about in the future. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  3. How much per watt do these strips cost? What about the rest of the system necessary to funnel the electricity from the strips to the outlet. Show me REAL LIFE stats here, I need more than an article in Discover to be convinced. Go find it and bring me proof of -one- industrialized country using hemp for anything more than a few novelty beers, shampoos, and blankets. Not everything is a conspiracy. You do know that Bill is one of our resident tree-huggers and powers his home entirely with solar; you know that, right? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  4. Where did you get that idea? Can you back it up? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  5. Why are you updating the BIOS on an older computer? (I assume this is the P3 you mentioned the other day). Is there a specific issue you're trying to correct? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  6. I got a variable rate fixed for 5 years and capped after that. Even when that loan reaches its maximum interest rate I'll be better off than most. However, I wasn't referring to my home loan specifically as much as I was any loan - I know that interest rate increases are inevitible, but like most people I'd prefer that they not rise even 1%. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. 7. A few years ago when my rigger had more booze than I think he knew what to do with I asked around and got a suggestion of a gift certificate to his favorite eating hole. It is generally accepted that you should offer a token of appreciation to your rigger for saving your non-packin' ass. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  8. Did I post that? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  9. Ugh. I'm not, and I'm not even close to my borrowing potential but I don't want to pay any more for a loan than I have to. Think so? I'll bet banks will sell houses at market value, they're in the business of making money, not charity. Yeah, this is a problem and one that disgusts me. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  10. Let's forget about here, are any other industrialized countries using it? I'm not saying that we can't be first, but I'd think that if hemp truely were the answer to our problems that others would be using it on the scale you described. And a big fat bank account. Solar power isn't cheap, it's getting less expensive and more efficient every day, but I don't think it's ready for mass consumption just yet. 11. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1511614,00.html I'm not sure whether to roll around on the floor laughing or put my head between my hands and think what in the hell is this world coming to. I think it's a little bit of both. Ugh. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  12. I disagree with this statement. How many people in Germany were victims of violent crime last year? You claim that you (as a people) 'never needed'; I claim that there are those who did, but because of the prevailing attitude over there were never given the chance. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. 16. I could be mistaken, but my guess is that this discussion is a little upsetting to those sexually responsible members of the gay community in the same way that seasoned skydivers get upset after hearing that another one of our friends broke himself, or worse, after making an avoidable mistake. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. 17. Did ya hear the one about the baby seal that walked into a club? *rimshot* - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  18. In all honesty, the only thing that can fix that problem without new hardware is new software....linux. Well, Linux running only a basic shell with no X will 'fix the problem'. Add X and a few nifty apps and you're right back where you started. By the way, Linux isn't the only free Unix distribution - I myself prefer FreeBSD, though Solaris 10 is kinda nifty as well. If you're after cleaning up Windows a bit try disabling unnecessary services and a lot of the unnecessary fluff that serves to make Windows pretty. A few minutes on Google and you can find plenty of information on how to minimize the Windows footprint. On the other hand, RAM isn't that expensive these days. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  19. You missed a few scenarios. 5. You draw your weapon and the mere sight of it causes the perp to give up, nobody dies. 6. You do nothing and he starts shooting, people die. I'm sure that there are more. I guess the point is that I think nobody knows what they would do until they are truely in the middle of a situation like this one. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. 20. A friend of mine cutaway a baglock, the bagged canopy landed in a woods and stayed there for at least 6 months, perhaps more before it was found. That canopy is in the air today. Your friend is full of it. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  21. Poor examples all around, Bill. "Borrowing" someone's 802.11 signal consumes resources that belong to them, while the light, and radio examples you provided earlier do not. The sprinkler example is interesting because you're consuming resources that belong(ed) to someone else, yet at the same time you're not depriving them of their intended use of that resource. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. 22. No, I missed something.
  23. Does that mean if I leave the door to my house unlocked that you are doing nothing illegal by coming inside? Are you doing anything illegal if you come in and start using my resources? (e.g. food, water, heat, etc . . .) Doesn't that make you a thief? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  24. Bill, in SC? Not likely. This place would be boring if people agreed. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  25. Nice try, Bill. But I never said that there was no benefit to giving out condoms, as a matter of fact I think it's a good idea. I simply said that you had no proof that because 2000 condoms were given out that 2000 condoms were used. I have a feeling though that you already knew that. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
