I also had (well, still 'have' until someone buys it...) an I4 with the guccifoam. I like it, would definitely pick it again. --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

Any ZOODIVE.COM customers out there ??
brabzzz replied to MotherGoose's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Alternatively it gives them a perfect reason to buy that 170 which'll they'll grow bored of in 100 jumps - when they would otherwise have skipped it in favour of the "150 that would last years" (because they didn't have the money for 2 canopies so soon). --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com -
Both cutaway and reserve pads same colour - pro's/con's please
brabzzz replied to Newbie's topic in Gear and Rigging
I'd like to think i'd be able to find them whatever colour they are - even if they were invisible - as the sh*t's hitting the fan. Bear in mind for some people (those with boobs) they are invisible.... --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com -
Agreed. Even as part of a jump with the videologbook strapped on, you'll still be looking for the shots. The upside is people 'come to you' up there as they want to be on video! Get a protec. Tape it up and cover it with stickers. After another couple of hundred jumps you'll know exactly what you want. And you can mount both video and stills on a protec. Save the money and blow it on coaching instead. I wasted £150 on a Hurricane when a ProTec could have done the same job for much less. 4 years later i bought a new Hawkeye camera lid for half that! --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

Anything except a timeout, old skytronic or old style dytter. They all work, but if you're buying new just get a 'ProDytter or better'. --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

Phaaaaa! I paid well over double for mine when a copy finally surfaced on eBay. Well, if anyone wants an 'original' battered creased and well read version, i've got one kicking around... --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

found a willing balloon pilot....

Would turning the aad off be sensible? It could be quiet a a long flight before you get to a suitable drop point out of town - and i'd imagine changing weather and a long flight that isn't solely a climb isn't ideal aad territory... --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com -
I acknowledge that, I'm not disputing the fact and i agree it has nothing to do with this incident. However, I do not agree with the comment further up (base rigger's one) that there is absolutely nothing wrong with using skydiving gear on this object, properly rigged or not - especially on high profile jumps (obviouly not in reference to this particular jump, but to bridge day in general). Sorry, it should really have been in a seperate thread. I was simply commenting on the lax (imho) gear requirements - following on from other's comments on the currency requirements. --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

cool, my bad! I mis-read your post and initially meant to reply to you, but them changed my mind without editing who i hit 'reply to'. --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

I was going to disagree baserigger, but I hesitated because i'm clearly a lot less experienced and dindn't fancy starting a somewhat tangential discussion. But f*ckit, i'm having a slow day at work and disagree with you. But at the very least you can't get a f*cking baglock with a base rig, no chance of a 2 out entanglement, less chance of losing the brake lines on opening and a better canopy (possibly vented - god knows, maybe a fractionally faster opening might save someone one day). You could say that a freepacked canopy negates the baglock possibility, but there's still a 'surplus to requirements' reserve and you're using gear that is NOT made for the job. Chances are that people also take much better care of their base gear than that sh*tty old rig and canopy they brought to BD because they anticipate a swim. That shouldn't be the case, but probably is. Jump whatever you want, but if there is base specific gear available, it should f*cking well be used on super high profile jumps like this. --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

how much would it cost to open a DZ?
brabzzz replied to bloody_trauma's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You could do worse when winning the lottery. In fact, if I won the lottery, I might do just that. BUT, I don't play the lottery. Ha! I've began buying tickes! Two regular ones a Euromillions one a week. And a block of Premium bonds. If I win the £75m this Friday, there'll be a DZ named after me by Monday! Is Langar still for sale? --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com -
The bridge is one of the very few legal sites available (even if only for 24 hours). This incident is all the more tragic because of the media frenzy that predictability ensued. I have not (yet!) been, but two thing surpise me about the information providd on the site - 1) The currency/experience requirements seem low. Yeah, it's a nice 'beginner' object and the boats are there. But as shown here, even going handheld can be dangerous. It hardly seems like the ideal 'stress free' first jump environment either. I was sh*tting it enough with just a handful of hikers on my first one. A crowd of thousands might encourage people jump at a time when they're not 'ready' (in any sense of the word). 2) Why is goddamn skydiving gear still allowed at BD? Is there not already enough to go wrong without inducing 'improper gear' worries?!!?!! Not sure if this is relevant to this incident, but it's such a public event... --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

According to the RWS site, vectors will fit 1 size up and 1 size down from the recommended one. Stiletto loaded at 1.3? Cool. --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

That would be 'DubaiLand'. With the awe inspiring rate they're procuring/constructing anything and everything there, it's only a matter of time before they have the worlds biggest badass DZ and tunnel complex. I imagine it's on their list, just not right at the top! --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

Tragic. Condolences to friends and family. --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

Only one jump without a helmet as i'd forgotten it -and the choice between a 30s jump or a 3 hour hike back was pretty clear... Seems f*cking stupid not to wear one if at all possible, both for skydiving and base. --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

I jumped mine with the 'large' mesh slider and 8ish rolls per side stuffed into the nose. 4 twists to get a 'nipple' in the slider and two wraps of the thin black bungee. People were using combinations of small mesh, big mesh, bungees and masking tape. Horses for courses. My openings were fine. --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

Indeed. A quick google search will reveal a naked man going it. In daylight, iirc. So just imagien what happens at night*... * i wouldn't hang around that area naked though, especially if you're a guy...If the police don't get you, the doggers will. --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

Brilliant - I totally forgot TSE has a demo program! Will drop them a line tomorrow. I went up there when i ordered my first rig - it should have clicked really! Cheers for that. --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

Great advice indeed - but i reckon that's gonna be a bit more difficult in the UK than it would be in the US! --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

It's apparenty a 137(?!) measured the PIA way. Is it? Does it behave 'bigger' like the 135 or is it very definitly noticably the 'next size down'? If anyone has any input, it would be much appreciated. It's a comparison of the "126" to the other 135s i'm after...(or a 143 to a 150)...not an invasion by the canopy Nazis! --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com

How to remove hand strap without cutting?
brabzzz replied to JJ269J's topic in Photography and Video
The hacksaw was taken to my 105. No evidece of a strap...or an attachment point. Not great for resale value, but closer to my head so that's ok! -
Yep, it becomes like that! All the talk, skydiving T-shirts and putting it under 'hobbies/sports' on ever form and forum you can soon fades. Depending on who'se asking, they either get 'yeah, went for a run and did some shopping last weekend' or 'basejumped friday night, did 12 'speedstar no lift dive' skydives on saturday and 12 more on Sunday'. Both are bollocks, but the middle ground is so dull to explain and justify!

Funny you should say that! I ordered my Troll in navy blue with a neon orange centre cell for that very reason. I figure that after the thunderous opening boom some midflight camouflage won't make any difference. But a SAR heli might appreciate a bit of brigntness when trying to find me on the cliff! --------------------------------------- Ex-University of Bristol Skydiving Club www.skydivebristoluni.com
