The problem is that I am stuck at college with no chance of being at the DZ for at least a month and a half...probably even longer.

I was thinking more along the lines of a website.....

Is there anywhere (besides the DZ) where I can find detailed information as to the form, function, etc. of parachutes and rigs? For instance, what the purpose of the slider is (i know that).......etc. Thanks

I'm sad to say I attend the same university as her...Michigan State. I was looking on MSU's website for information on the skydiving club...which I believe no longer exists. Anyways, it's things like this that make me happy I'll be at the University of Michigan next year. GO BLUE!

One word.... WOW! http://www.msu.edu/~grahame4/skydiving.html

With only 3 jumps (according to your profile), how can your preferred discipline be freestyle? Aren't you still on student status? Just curious.....

I won't claim to be an expert by any means. However, the things you're claiming (i.e. getting wrapped up in a static line or slipping of the step on a Cessna) are absurd for somebody with as little experience as you. If static line was so dangerous, why has it persisted as a method of training for all this time? Maybe you should read up a bit and get more experience before dispensing advice. Not trying to insult you....

All he was trying to do was make a prediction, and you go ahead and try and make him look like a fool for doing so. Anyways....everybody should listen to this: http://komo1000news.com/audio/kvi_aircheck_031003.mp3

I've never BASE jumped...but I've always wondered how some people do it. By this I mean, how exactly do they get to the top of hotels, skyscrapers, etc. in order to jump. Any good stories of jumpers elluding authorities to make building or other illegal jumps?

Where is a good place to do an AFF or similar program in Michigan? I am aware of most of the DZs in this state...I'm just looking for some first-hand feedback from people who've been there. I've made all my jumps at Tecumseh and I really, really like it there. Unfortunately, they don't currently offer an AFF program, so I am going to have to train somewhere else. I go to school in East Lansing, and will soon be going to school in Ann Arbor - right next to Tecumseh

Hey everyone, I'm very new here. I'll post an introduction sometime soon... Anyways, I have done two tandems and around 11 static line jumps. I did all these jumps at the same DZ, mainly because I really like the people and atmosphere there. I've done these jumps with a friend, and we are both fanatical about skydiving; neither of us can get it out of our heads. The problem is, we are both having trouble with the S/L program. Besides the tandems, I have done 4 freefalls - two hop and pops and two 5 second delays. My hop and pops were good according to the instructors, and I felt confident with my abilities and performance on each. However, on both my 5 second delays, I exited the plane (a Cessna 182) in a good arch and then through some body movement rotated onto my back. Both times I quickly corrected the problem and pulled my ripcord. The instructors worked with my friend and me extensively before our first freefalls, and between each one. However, I seem to have hit a dead end with the S/L program (by no fault of the instructors). Without an instructor physically in the air with me on the freefalls to correct my body position, how am I supposed to learn how to do it correctly? I realize the S/L program has trained thousands of skydivers or many years, yet the very concept of sending people who have never really skydived out the door of a plane alone almost seems insane. I would compare it to teaching swimming lessons on land and then telling the students to just go jump into the deep end while the teacher watches from the pool deck. Is it just me, or is S/L completely out-dated?

I've downloaded quite a few BASE movies that show wingsuit jumpers going off cliffs, towers, etc. and pulling extremely low. Obviously, because of their reduced vertical speed, they can afford longer freefalls. However, they are still pulling at what appears to be incredibly low altitudes. Even some of the people who filmed the clips comment on camera about how low these dudes are pulling. Is this unique to wingsuits? Does flying one allow you to pull significantly lower than normal jumpers? Thanks........

I'm very new to the sport. However, I've done a bit of reading about the Wingsuit, and it sounds amazing. At the dropzone I jump at, I have not yet seen any Wingsuits. When I asked, I was told only one person at the DZ (an employee) owned a wingsuit. The person I spoke with said the owner didn't use it that much, but didn't specify why. This is a medium size DZ in Michigan...I would think more people would have Wingsuits. This leads to the question: Is there something bad about the Wingsuit? Are its flight characteristics not as good as claimed? Or is it just coincidence that nobody there seems to jump with them?

Each time I go to skydivingmovies.com and get redirected to the ftp, I can download only one movie. After that, I always get error messages having to do with being denied access. Why is this? Has anybody had a similar problem? How can I fix it? Thanks....

How come I could only download one movie from here? After I got one, it gave me an error message.
