The food is bad but the beer is good so all kind of evens out --- right?

[Green] Correct me if I am wrong but I thought E was for earth and O was for other, like a crane, wind turbine, smoke stack, etc. RF = Rob Fry or Rob Frye, either way the ABA video indicated he was deceased so I figure he desrves the credit and there is little chance of him getting in trouble now. I was probably more of a skateboarder than I will ever be a BASE jumper but I did pack my BASE rig at the DZ today between hop & pops, drank a couple beers on the way home, a few more with my wife during dinner, one reading Nick's post, and another writing mine --- so here is my input of hops and perspective. First off, Tony Hawk rocked, he did new tricks, really enjoyed skating, had fun, and didn't end up cranked out in a hotel room with an 8-ball and a dead girlfriend. He skated because there is something really cool about gliding along paid for by sweat and gravity alone. Of course he continued to do it so well so long that he became popular and successful -- good for him. Second, there are plenty of people who want to speak for BASE BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN they really do --- cause trusting your life to nylon and your skill is not like falling off your board while trying to roll in a half pipe or trying your first invert. Trust me, bruises and road-rash do not compare to the carnage that BASE jumping or skydiving can create. Third, I have learned many things about BASE and LIFE from visting this forum. Great men and women have shared their time, skill, insight, and criticisms with me. Thank you very much for your help -- I appreciate it. Lastly, yeah I agree, the fake name shit is lame. A few of you might have to protect your identity for your military jobs and that's okay but most of you want to razz people for your own enjoyment -- to them I say, "go run a lap". While preparing for my FJC I accidentally took a Mojo 280 out of a cessna, slider down, packed in a Publix shopping bag. After the lightning fast opening I spent from 3,500 till 1,500 just hanging in the harness and moaning. I could not image taking one terminal --- ouch, damn!! So was it an accident or a stunt?!? On one of the Austrailian BASE video compilations there is footage of a guy doing the Extreme Ironing bit off of a lowish cliff. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM

I see 57 votes but no replies... At first I was going to vote slider down because simple is usually more depenable then I realized I have no business voiting since my 7 jumps were slider down, on heading, and none were low pulls. However, I am very curious to hear the rationale for the different popular replies from you experience guys out there. Thanks in advance for the education. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM

I get the point "My Two Cents" is trying to make...think of this guys: More little kids die drowning in pools than are killed with guns... BUT more citizens get really excited about wanting to control guns. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM

I have 1 balloon jump, 3 ultra-light jumps, 7 BASE jumps, and a dozen helicopter jumps... ALL of them were awesome but nothing compares to the rush and danger of stepping off of a fixed objects with only one parachute & 3 seconds. On the flipside, I bought a used hot air balloon envelope, a blow torch, and other gear just so I could do more low altitude balloon jumps... Honestly, in my opinion, the best of both worlds would be daily jumps from 400 feet with a BASE rig, no strike hazard, and zero climbing!!

Dude, I am with Toymaker, it is hard to believe a jumper took a shot to the dome with a spud gun and did not think to get video of it

They are nearly impervious to gunshot for some reason. Yep, geese, turkeys & buzzards all have very dense feathers that are quite resistant to bird shot. Typically hunters will use bigger gauge shotguns with very stout shot. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM

Good Luck Dave! Remember, on the runs, lead with your knees not your face. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM -
Good eye man, the listed altitude is 221 meters or just over 700 feet. FYI: it has 8 guidewires. Added bonus: saw a deer while walking the LZ. I have not jumped it yet. I have one more antenna to scout before I decide which one to open. This one is definitely in the top 2 right now. As for delay, I plan to take 2 seconds, either stowed or hand held depending on the amount of room at the launch point. The short delay is based on my gear, experience, & fear/comfort level. Hey Tony, Yep, I was a dumbass and made the mistake of originally thinking altitudes listed on the antenna site were in feet not meters I have met and/or emailed with a few guys who are active jumpers in Florida. When I am ready I plan to visit them. How is your leg healing up? Hopefully well bro! Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM

Muchas Gracias Yeyo.

Living in Florida it is not uncommon to see signs displayed in English and Spanish, but seeing this one here made me smile. ?Hermano quiere traducir? Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM

Based on who owns these antennas, there is definitely FM, TV, and weather, not sure about AM but due to the numerous guidewires and power lines it does not matter because I am not jumping any of them. Before getting laid off I spent some time compiling a spreadsheet with potential local objects based on data from the antenna website and Google Earth. Now that I have free time I am visiting each antenna to the find the best one to open. Not only is it a fun way to kill time I think it is a good exercise to scout the objects, evaluate landing areas, think about the required winds for a safe exit, etc. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM

When I read posts about loathing the USPA I shake my head... While a few of USPA's rules annoy me, I understand why they are needed. The larger a group becomes the more standardized the rules/laws need to be. Since BASE jumping has less participants, is less commercial, is more dangerous, requires more skill, and is typically illegal it makes sense that it would be self/group regulated. I've been there on a cruise and nothing seemed tall enough to me. Good luck man. As the guys mentioned, the diving there is good. Oh, and FYI the pharmacy will sell you anything you want. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
