AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER job - any suggestions?
Spizzzarko replied to skydiverek's topic in The Bonfire
hahahahahahahaaaa Dude, do you want to be locked up in some building on a saturday and sunday, telling the jump plane to squake 1352 on it's transponder when all of your buddies jump? -
"Sure! She could be doing many great things to help society. She's not. Neither are many famous pro-athletes. You could say that little boys are looking up to pro-athletes who could/should be doing more for society" I feel societies idolizations are all skewed. Look at who get's the media attention. Why do we waste a whole night on the grammy's? I feel instead of wasting money, on that shit, why don't we spend more money, on rejuvinating our city's infrastructure. Taking care of our own citizens, and programs to help find cures for diseases like HIV/AIDS, Herpes, Cancer in all it's forms.

Ron, I'm not saying it doesn't happen. I'm sure people do it every day and walk away. It's the thought proccess, that goes along with doing it. You are a very experienced jumper, and I have seen a few things myself, but if we continue to think "Oh, it doesn't matter I have a skyhook", that's when we all start to get into trouble. Look at the attitude out there about AAD's. Do you not get a feeling, that some people are lulled into a false since of security, because they have one?

I wasn't discouraging any one from knowing their equipment. I was encouraging everyone to not cut away low. See my post above this one.

"One of my friend went low with an AFF jump, because he was relying his audible that he managed to leave on ground" This is what I'm pointing out. This sport is taking a dangerous turn for the worse on gear reliance. Who the fuck teaches AFF students to rely on a stupid audible? That's just assignine. If you go around telling people that they can cut away at 400' and get away with it, then they are going to do it, eventually they are going to push it lower and lower untill we have people out there chopping in the dirt. Yes gear manufactures have come a long way in the 6 years I have been in the sport, but the premise is still the same. The ground is out there, and if you fuck up then you are going to DIE! I appreciate what Mr. Booth is doing, and what he has designed. If I had a Vector, I would probably jump a skyhook, even though now I choose to not jump and RSL. But I still would not rely on it as the only way to save my life. Yes, shit happens out there, but don't do stupid things to put yourself in a bad situation. Most accidents are not caused by one thing alone. It's usually a series of small things adding up, and any dissruption of the small things would have prevented the larger disaster.

You can take the girl out of the trailer park, but you cant take the trailerpark out of the girl.

I'm feeling a little green today, but at least I don't have to go to work. It got cancelled because of all of the snow we got here in Colorado yesterday.

I'm never drinking again... I feel like a bag of smashed assholes right now.

Maybe, they have figured out that the sport wasn't fo them. I have gotten 2,500 jumps in 6 years. Most of that was from the Military. The Military really burnned me out on jumping, and I'm just coming back off that burn out experience. So I'm kind of cynacle on the whole deal, if you know what I mean. I would have to say, It really doesn't matter where you came from, or what your experience is, as long as you are inherently safe in the sky. On the oposite thought spectrum, I wouldn't mind if the AFF, and the Tandem, I experience requirements were raised a little bit.

Come on now, I know you Sunday night drinkers are out there some where...

Dont wait until you "feel strong enough" again... Just do it, but is an exercise hurts then sit out... Nobody is going to criticise. In YOGA it's all about you, and what you feel you can get out of each individual exercise...

You do have a point. What's our thoughts on those who get 500 jumps in a year, and try for their tandem rating with less than 3 years in the sport. I know what the rules say "500 jumps 3 years in the sport before you can apply fo r the RWS tandem rating" Personally I feel that the tandem rating should have a lot more jumps to it. I got my Tandem at 900 jumps, and I felt innadequate for it. I also thought that I was a good flyer. I did tandems untill my 2000th jump, and then I let my rating lapse. I never hurt anybody, but I was getting quite a few aches and paines from doing tandems. I just didn't want to continue with that line of work. i felt the risks outwayed the rewards. Grant

I am SO sorry that you have broken yourself. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Fortunatly, I have never broken a bone. One thing that may help you out, is YOGA... It may sound kindof gay, but I have done it, in the past, and I swear to god it has made me a better flyer. Also, I have impacted the earth at speeds that would have broken a mortal man, but the flexability that YOGA has provided my has saved my ass. Seriously, the more flexable your body is the better you can survive impacts. It may sound corny, but it really works. I used to laugh at the 4 way dudes stretching prior to jumping, but it really helps out. Loom fo r a YOGA place that does the heat durin g tthe workout. the heat will help you out. Also don't try to stretch yourslf to far in the beginning. Just go with what is comfortable. The Kama Sutra Manuevers will come in time. Trust me. Try the YOGA, you will feal like a million dollars. Isn't it just completely wierd, that you have to worst situation happen to you in your dreams but you walkaway from it, but in reality you will die from it?
-
Rum and pepper is the shit. How are you doing? Are you still in UT? Are you still in The AF? I'm now a DOD civ.

Have you had the going in dream yet? All the going in dreams that I have had I walked away from in my dreams. The last (most vivid Dream) I had, I fired m y reserve, and it got to line stretch, and stalled in a bag lock. I grabbed my reserve lines and pulled them down to me, and used my feet to push on the bag as I pulled on the lines at the same time. It finally came undone, and started to snivel. I impacted in the local mall parking lot, and said "well, that sucked..." Picked up th free bag, elastic band, my handles (they all were about 10-15' around me), walked across he street into my appartment and went to sleep. It was a wierd dream.

Answer: a tourist Question: What do you call a jumper that has been jumping less than 10 years Really, There are dudes and chicks out there that have a lot of experience in less than 10 years.

We had that big blizzard here in CO today, and I got the call that tommorow is a snow day at Peterson AFB, so I don't have to go into work. My wife works at Schriever AFB, and they havn't gottent the call yet, so She is asleep. and I'm burning the midnight oil here on DZ.com. I'm now on number 4. Half cup ful of Ice. 3/4 Rum rest coke... I have also been on this no soda no cafine diet since Jan this year, and this is the first time I have really broken it, so I'm kindof wired from the Cafine. If I had a Yaeger bomb, I would be walking on the ceiling right now. Grant

Ok, I'm on my third Rum and Coke tonight, so I thought I would see how you guys thought about the Rum and Cokes. Grant

Gentlemen, Let us not forget what we were taught in the AFF course. We as AFF JM's are to be the human tape recorders. AFF JM video is a great tool, but let us not forget that there are videio personelle for this job. If we all went out and put camera's on our helmets, then what is the purpose of the videographer? It's like the Tandem Master having the wrist mount video camera. The DZO charges for the video , and the JM does more work for the same pay. I know we all want to help the student out as much as possible, but let's face it. You get what you pay for in this sport, and also as the JM, I have enough to think about without a camera on my head. So I implore you to think about mounting a camera, and just filming what ever on the dive. Please be carefull out there.
