  1. Oh yeah, with Don Johnson. Great flick. One of my favorites, maybe not cult, but the MST 3000 riff on an old B&W 60's movie, The Skydivers. Horrible acting, terrible plot, some great jump footage. Woohoo!
  2. I've learned that life is too amazing to always say "but what if?" Better to say "why not?"
  3. Have fun, jump as much as you can, and get video whenever you can.
  4. Young guys are dumb. Tell 'em exactly what you want and you'll have a lot more fun.
  5. I wonder if it needs to visible for 5 miles above 10,000 feet.
  6. A-fucking-men Don't be posting stupid $hit on social media.
  7. After a dozen+ reserve rides and numerous repacks, I'm pretty good at pulling those handles. Now, when repack time rolls around, I find a jumper working on his or her A license, put my rig on them and let them chop and pull the reserve for real.
  8. We watched it too. Interesting to see Joe Kittenger's comments. From what I heard, Joe thought they rushed too much and took dangerous shortcuts. Of course, they didn't have the funding the Air Force had when Joe made his jump. Where does the truth lie?
  9. Don't pretend you haven't seen any of them.
  10. Right terrain, maybe a full moon, I think it would be a blast. Make sure your light is visible while you're under canopy. Talk to the pilot about what he should tell air traffic control. Double check your winds aloft and take a cell phone.
  11. I know us TMs ain't the brightest bunch, but it's "Tandem", not tandum.
  12. I've known DZs to set up tandem rigs as solo static line rigs for 300 lb people. It's a lot of work to do that, though, and maybe the people should just lose that excess weight.
  13. This is the important consideration here, IMHO.
  14. May the force be with you, Johnny.
  15. You should skip the C and get your damn D license. Then you're set for whatever. I had a friend with 1000+ jumps and only an A license run into trouble at Eloy. It had been months since his last jump and they were going to make him pay for a coach jump to "get checked out and recurrent." Instead he just went ahead and finally got his D.
  16. Igor Sikorsky didn't do any better on his first attempts, and they cost a whole lot more. Well said, John. Reminiscent of Ben Franklin watching the Montgolfier freres. With that said, I wonder about safety and possible failure modes. I don't think autorotation is a possibility. I'd feel better if I could jump from it.
  17. Boy howdy on that. Off shore breezes, low level turbulence, close to the shore line. Not a place for learning from your mistakes. . .
  18. Well that's messed up. It's common knowledge that the military can jam and distort GPS signals. It's caused trouble on the West coast. Now it looks like it's the East coast's turn. ADS-B is a GPS based system. Old TCAS was a radar transponder based system, independent of GPS, and shouldn't be affected by the military exercises. But as ADS-B becomes the norm, TCAS systems will also be GPS dependent, and subject to "distortion". In the interest of public safety, this kind of crap should not be put up with.
  19. Sounds great. We're on the North Shore of Oahu this month, trying to skydive in between tropical storms.
  20. Pilot error and just plain bad luck he hit the road instead of the field. I don't know if US regulations on airshows would have prevented this. Probably not.
  21. Man, that really sucks. I probably would have done the same damn thing.
  22. For students raised on tandems and AFF, the first hop and pop can be quite the hurdle. Thanks for the pointers. :)
  23. Our DZ is pretty family friendly. We have a bunch of toddlers running around out there, even after the beer light comes on. Your mom would be quite comfortable there.
