  1. They're all rats, and I love it when they turn on each other.
  2. She's a true survivor and an inspiration. If she makes it out to Kapowsin she can put her first jump on my tab.
  3. I enjoyed the movie, but was wondering the same thing. Was this always in Ridley's mind as the beginning of the Alien saga, or was it just an exercise in seeing what they could come up with?
  4. Congratulations, Gary. Yeah, I remember that old gear. I don't think I'd still be jumping if all I still had was T-10 with an 11-tu cutout.
  5. Well, I've had the pleasure of jumping with Craig Girard, Jerry Bird and BJ Worth. And those guys go everywhere.
  6. Nice one. Just like in my job, the trick is to think fast, but not TOO fast. Edited to add; Just read the article. Got the other questions right, too. Must not be as smart as I thought I was. Whew, what a relief.
  7. I think I agree with billvon. There's hardly ever more than two degrees in our sport.
  8. Holy $#it! Yep, those tankers fly around VFR not talking to anyone quite a bit. They should look out for jump centers a little better. My question would be if this jumper's pilot got a traffic advisory from center or approach prior to the drop.
  9. The 12 string god, Leo Kottke. I've seen him live a couple of times back in the day. He's got a show in Seattle on my birthday this year. Maybe I'll go catch that. leo kottke vaseline machine gun
  10. Thanks, Kallend. I forgot "high performance." Hey, where were you when that "can jumpers create lift" thread was going last week? There were a lot of physics misconceptions floating around (as always).
  11. I noticed your screen name "Rifleman." It's a lot like "Kentucky windage".
  12. Unfortunately not as much as needed. There are around 2 dozen+ midair collisions in this country every year, many of them around these uncontrolled airports. That's pretty much their job at towered (controlled) airports. That and to coordinate with radar facilities on the release of IFR aircraft. Umm, he'd have to be signed off to fly complex aircraft at a minimum, right? Hey, more expensive than the Bonanza is the Piper Malibu. That's why they're called "Plastic Surgeon Killers." Agreed. And it's many of the same attitudes that kill pilots that kill jumpers.
  13. I gotta admit one of my favorite shows to watch with Vskydiver is Fashion Police. The women are beautiful and Joan Rivers, 80 years old, is still dishing out the "I-can't-believe-she-said-that" humor left and right.
  14. This same group of people might also prove that the majority of men are gay, right?
  15. You nailed it. This thread is like "What's the best painting in the world?" There's too much individual taste involved, all of it valid. As a kid, I grew up with Jimi, so he's the standard I apply to all others. Voodoo Chile. The whole damn thing's a solo.
  16. F-ing great story. They must not have had bowling in OZ back then.
  17. Ohhh, I have so much to say, but this ain't the SC.
  18. Voila de l'argent = French for "Here's some money" 'cause that's what your kids want to hear. Or Donnez-moi de l'argent" for "give me some money." "Joyeuse fête des pères." is one way to say it, says a Belgian." Fete" means party or celebration. Substitute "jour" for "day".
  19. It's not very hard to estimate a good spot if you take in information from many sources, such as watching the speed and direction of cloud shadows, how slow you're moving across the ground on jump run, etc. More than once I've observed us crawling across the ground on jump run and taken the spot out another quarter mile or so. I don't mind having the winds aloft forecasts available, but there are many other sources of info for your spot estimates. Back when we all jumped rounds you got immediate and obvious feedback on every spot. Now with square canopies it's really not as critical unless you're the guy who has to go find cutaway canopies in the woods.
  20. Wow, for the INSTRUCTOR to have their handle in backwards . . . I bet THAT'S what scared the student so badly. I haven't done Cessna AFF in 25+ years, but on a solo instructor jump, shouldn't you be controlling the student physically as they climb out?
  21. Anyone who's trained SL students for any length of time has seen plenty of unstable hop & pops. That grabbing the hacky on the step shows a real lack of confidence on the student's part. He definitely needs a LOT more re-training.
  22. I've got a couple of friends that could help you out with that record.
