  1. Well . . . I tend to differ in my opinion. I've seen pilots do some amazingly stupid stuff, occasionally been able to stop them. This analysis says GA may be close to 20 times more dangerous than driving. At least a magnitude more dangerous. http://www.meretrix.com/~harry/flying/notes/safetyvsdriving.html With that said, IMHO, when you're driving, you're at the mercy of many others. When you're flying, your own judgement usually determines your fate.
  2. Reloading has been a hobby of mine for a long time. A lot of people do it. It's an interesting craft I've shared with my kids and it saves quite a bit of $$ on ammo. I also bake bread, brew beer and build furniture. I guess I'm a DIY kind of guy.
  3. Funny you mention that. I've known a few people who were raised by a gay mom or dad. Perfectly straight. One of them said the only problem was a little harassment is high school.
  4. Some of the proposed ammo taxes would kill .22LR prices. BTW, a coworker just sold a bunch of .223 rounds for 80 cents each. Crazy.
  5. It is pretty damn funny when you think about it.
  6. You know, they just legalized gay marriage in our state. The other day I was wondering how all the gay guys are liking the "let's get married" pressure that straight guys have been dealing with forever.
  7. Yay! So it was Neko Case? Not a big fan, but Slipknot.
  8. Neko Case Screaming Trees Case ends with an "E", y'know. Doh, that's right. We can skip an "s" to go to an "e", not the other way.
  9. Eric Singer Project http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Singer_Project Thanks, Lisa. Game on!

  13. Awww, Squeak, you know I'm your favorite gun nut, and I
  14. No kiddin'? You can't see 'em from your front porch, can ya? Yeah, I even remember the Cold Wars days, working the fighters escorting the Russian bombers off the coast.
  15. I'm replying to your post using punchcards in Fortran. How do ya like that?
  16. I know the song really well but I have a hard time writing that really long letter, you know, ellemeno.
  17. Different kind of alien, eh? Parte une ou deux? Funny story, years ago, when the cold war was just barely over, I was walking to the plane with a Russian tandem passenger. Walking with us was a sport jumper who was also a Ranger stationed at Ft Lewis. He asked my passenger "Are you Russian?" The passenger replied that he was. The ranger seemed to mull it over a few seconds, then stare straight at my passenger and asked "You ever see the movie Red Dawn?" No answer from my passenger, but I was having a hard time not laughing. Gotta love those gung ho Rangers.
  18. I recognized quite a few of those. Some were fatal, of course, but some were well done forced landings, which are not so bad. As always, aviation remains a very unforgiving activity.
  19. Well, now you know why we jump out.
  20. Thanks for the input. At other DZ's I don't mingle with the staff while they're working with students, so I wouldn't see it if it was a problem. At my home DZ I don't think I've seen much of a problem. Most of our TI's are also AFF I's, so they're pretty competent instructors. The ones that aren't seem pretty mellow. I do know that all of our staff have been directed by management to look around and keep an eye out for trouble, whether working or not. Chest straps, gear checks, landing patterns, exit spacing; any of that is up for critique if we see something we don't like.
