    Hard opening

Jumpers had a hard opening on the main and both became unresponsive and flew off the DZ where they both were found deceased.
  2. On this topic I saw the disaster that was Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skulls and thought it was decent. I then stumbled across an early draft script of the film online and wanted to go beat Lucas for not making the movie that was written for him. Minor changes but at the end it would have made for a much better movie. That is a case where the script was great but the execution was not up to the script at all. 3. Leading up to the start of each event expect the tunnel to be almost or 100% sold out. Once the draw for each even occurs the competitors are not allowed to use the tunnel for any training at all. So that means day 1 of 4 way RW no one will be using it unless they are working on 8 way or Freeflying. Tunnel time should free up once the event gets going but call as soon as possible to reserve your time now. Fun jumpers are usually allowed to jump and you might even be able to find a few people to do a throw together team while you are there too if you are interested in it. Usually they try to get the competitors in at least 6-7 jumps per day for their events so you can easily get on a good number of jumps but you will need to remember that they will send all the teams and you might only have 1-2 slots open on an Otter so if you are wanting to jump with a group it might be a while each day until enough slots are open to do that. 5. They only have a surplus right now due to the oil boom. They had a boom back in the 80's too and it ended in the early 90's. The issue is once you get rid of this if the boom ends again (and it will) then there is no way that the population will vote to enable the property or other tax again. 9. That would actually take a master rigger as it would be an alteration and the paperwork here in the US would require FAA approval since it is a different design than the canopy was approved as. You might want to look for an older Raven reserve. They already have the bridle attachment sewn in. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

  11. After that incident his mental health took a major hit and he was not the same person as he was before it. This is one of those things that people over look all the time in incidents, they might physically heal but mentally they might have issues. I just hope he gets some help now. As an update to this and to dispel any rumors that are bound to pop up: http://www.wkyt.com/home/headlines/Man_who_survived_skydiving_accident_now_facing_charges_156995215.html Thanks to a tip the police were able to locate all the stolen rigs and found other items also that have lead to additional charges. 14. You actually might have it backwards. A lot of DZ's will allow someone at age 16 to do AFF and only at age 18 will they allow tandem. Anyone doing a 16 year old tandem is in violation of the BSR's from the USPA and in violation of the manufacturer's agreement on their tandem container. If you are interested in doing AFF you can make your first jump once you turn 16 and have your parents sign the paperwork at a lot of DZ's that offer AFF. Contact your local DZ's and ask if they allow age 16 for AFF or Static Line/IAD and you might be able to jump locally and work on your license right now! 15. FAA investigates: http://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/news/Tandem_Skydive_Scare_206747-1.html?CMP=OTC-RSS FAA Investigates Tandem Skydiving Scare Email this article |Print this article By Russ Niles, Editor-in-Chief The FAA has paid a visit to a California skydiving company after video of some unplanned excitement vaulted it to Internet stardom earlier this week. It's been more than a year since an 80-year-old grandmother identified only as Laverne took a bucket-list tandem jump with the Parachute Center in Acampo, Calif., that may have got her a little closer to her maker than she bargained for. Laverne is seen having second thoughts in the aircraft door before she is encouraged to join the fun by her tandem partner and the cameraman. Laverne somehow slips out of her harness and makes most of the journey earthward in an undignified position in the grip of her partner. At one point during the freefall the cameraman moves in to help keep hold of Laverne. They landed none the worse for wear and that was the end of the story until the video hit theChive. The video caught the attention of the networks and the Parachute Center has fielded numerous requests for comment with a variation of the statement made to the New York Daily News, which quoted an unnamed employee. "No one got hurt," the employee said. "The equipment worked properly." The FAA decided to check that out and spent part of Saturday interviewing staff and going over records. Reserve Entanglement

Jumper experienced a situation where the main canopy was turning after opening and she filed to complete a cutaway before she activated the reserve. The reserve deployed into the turning main canopy and created a situation where neither canopy was fully i

  19. I do think that Dragon has a few better ideas than the Orion program was coming up with. My favorite is the lack of the external ejection motors. Everything from Gemini to Apollo to Orion was looking to use an external motor to lift the capsule away from the rocket body if needed for an escape situation. The issue with that is that if everything goes normal then you have to still get rid of that external fixture in order to continue to orbit since the parachutes are sitting right under it. No matter what route good/bad you had to add that extra step into the process to get to the next point. SpaceX eliminated that and said why not just use basically the control motors to lift it up and away in an emergency? That reduces one more step from launch and therefore cost from the equation. This simple change also increases the safety factor since you don't have to rely on the external rockets to be discarded in either situation because if you had a good launch and the external failed to leave you are unable to land the craft. 21. Your facility at least has standards. I know of another facility that my brother works at that they have "Ugly shirt day" on Friday and weekends. My brothers closet looks like the 70's threw up in there with all the plaid, stripes and animal prints. I have worked from home for the last 7 years and I love my casual dress code. Mine is more casual than most offices in that I don't think that wearing gym shorts to meetings works everywhere. That being said I have been offered jobs going back into an office for more money and I just can't bring myself to have to dress up every day again. 23. I dislike the crews that ask for a pat down since I've seen them just get waived through with out even being looked at while I get both the pat down and the full scanner. Then again if the Pilot wanted to do something its a lot easier just to crash than it is to carry a bomb on from the crews side. The thing I don't get on some of the scanners is that the scanner is about 6 feet tall, when they want my hands over my head my hands and arms stick out the top of the scanner and now that is grounds for a manual patdown of my entire arm since part of it left the screening area. I've tried to keep my arms in the scanner and the TSA agents flip out that I am not in the position they want. I'm not overly tall at 6'2" but they clearly didn't think about this issue as they designed the scanners. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  24. I have seen some really stupid things from TSA. I was stopped earlier this year and they emptied everything out from my laptop bag looking for the "knife like object" they saw. Granted this is the same carry-on bag that I passed through security with at least 60 times last year and had not altered anything in it... Only after emptying out my business cards, laptop, all my cables, the notebooks, etc did they discover that the "knife like object" was just a normal ink pen. They filled up 3 bins with the stuff they emptied out. The girl right behind me got her bag rescanned 3 times and the one after her ended up getting his bag rescanned too. I think the scanner was in over her head and was just saying Bag Check on everyone to justify her job. If you go to SAV budget extra time for their TSA stupidity Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
