we've been having this conversation for 2 days. i keep hearing a lot of people essentially saying "yeah, let's go eradicate them" first of all it is my belief that 98% of the people exclaiming these remarks are between the ages of 18-25, not in the military, no family abroad, are not world travelers, and have no family abroad or plan on joining the armed forces in the near future. to these people i say this "your vote don't count" either sign up, get in line or get in the position to be in a line...somewhere, or simply be quite. i am finding it hard to accept that sky divers do illegal substances of any kind at all. personally, for me, i have never done drugs, i'd be lying if i denied smoking a joint or two when i was 18 or 19, but that's it. jumping out of an aircraft intentionally and relying on the skills that i have learned is not only challenging, but the most exillarating, euphoric feeling i've ever experienced in my entire life, i don't need drugs, and i'm glad i don't use them. for those that wish to do so, they are not only endangering a sport that they love, but the other sky divers and DZ/DZO as well. "just say no" to drugs. if i pitched at 2500 AGL and had a streamer, or bag lock, i'd much rather be straight than UTI of an illegal substance, the fact of the matter is illegal substances slow down your motor skills and awareness level, it's a proven fact, legal, or not. even if drugs were legal, i wouldn't do them, life is too short to waste your "grey matter" on drugs. don't be a "dopER" or you may wind up in the last 2 letters. drugs = R.I.P. --Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"

i don't fault the passengers on the planes for the hi-jackings either. but to say they were unaware of what was going on, i do not agree. i fly transatlantic all of the time, and i am very aware of the planes heading at all times. if your flying a 330-340 degree azimuth, and you have a sudden course change and bank hard port and change to a 140-160 degree azimuth plane, your going to know about it, especially in a 737-747-dc10, etc...we all failed on that day, every american in the 50 states, it was our security that let them through, it was our customs that let them in the country, it was our instructors that taught them to fly, shall i continue? this was a major malfunction on all of our parts as americans, and yet we want to blame someone else, well i guess it is better than admitting WE made a HUGE mistake. where was our flight control that day, where was our tracking systems? --Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"

the probable cause you mentioned could have been coming from anywhere. DA's have simply lost too many cases from complications, law enforcement has certain protocol to meet to insure a "clean bust" i once fired an employee for having weed in his car, (circa 1989) i confiscated the weed, alerted him to leave my drilling rig, next thing you know he filed a grievance with the labor board and won. in retrospect i should have called the S.O. and let them do the seisure of the contraband, arrest him and have the substance tested to make sure it was what it appeared to be. he won by the way, i was left trying to explain why i didn't handle the situation properly, and all i was trying to do was minimize his trauma, bad enough to lose your job, it would have been even worse to lose your job AND get busted. i have smelled weed on a few sky divers before, i have even seen drop zone employees (load organizers/tandem master) in possesion of weed, i've never ratted anybody out, but i do make a concious effort to avoid their loads. --Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"
