  2. Hi Skymonkey, the 107 will not be the only size for the R.A.G.E. 86 will be the next, maybe a 70. and also a 120. blues Frank provehito in altum
  3. Hi Crazy After jumping the Rage this weekend, I took the time to have Stefan at Paratec explain to me all the facts behind the Rage design. This is what I understand and yes this design is absolutely brilliant. What is does is, it keeps the overspilling air at the leading edge from flowing over the top skin, disturbing the laminar airflow. It actively disposes the overspill to the bottom skin where it is not as damaging to aerodynamics. Therefore you can take a very thin airfoil section, which obviously has a thinner nose. This reduces the nose drag dramatically. Normally thin airfoils have a rather insufficient slow flight ability. It can be noticed in a rather high stall speed, meaning the speed when you have to put your feet to the ground. In most cases you still have to run out your swoop. The rage airfoil in combination with the "air guiding engine" design resembles a fast , highly aerodynamic wing, with a unusually good slow flight performance. Just picture a F 16 Falcon that can land like a Pilatus Porter. The Rage design also controls the pressure point inside each cell, which is crutial to keep every ram air wing proberly preasurized. This is why you cannot stall a wing which is loaded at 2.3. It is absolutely amazing to see in a full stall, how your rear risers go totally slack and you are still under a inflated canopy ( with 50 % totally deflected ). And yes, this enhances the stability in turbulences. Unlike the classic airlock, which acts to the rear of the cell, the RAGE design takes control of the most important part of any ram air canopy, which is the nose. If you look up in flight is is razor sharp and very defined. Just like on a rigid wing you see on aircrafts. By running the pannels inside each cell, it is in line with the relative wind. Therefore there is absolutely no nose distortion unlike all other designs on the market today which have just blunt sewn down closed off cells, causing the relative wind to push the nose back, distorting it and eventually increasing the nose drag. As far as I could find out, Paratec has very silently developed the RAGE system over the last 3 years. In my opinion it resembles just the same break through design to hit the parachute market as Bill Coe's x braced design back from 1990. ( Excalibur ). blues Frank provehito in altum
  4. Hi me again, and here it is: http://home.tiscali.de/vvjgermany/rage1.avi i hope the url works. the video is nealy 2 minutes long and around 6mb (divx 5.05 codec) blues Frank provehito in altum
  5. Hi Dan first of all, the 85 x-wing is not a crossbraced canopy and the x-wing is not generating much more lift than the rage. the video is ready but a little to big (13mb) so i will compress it with divx. i think in a few hours it will be online. what could you expect: A toogle full stall and the canopie stays nearly in chape. starting from the same altitude, after a double frontraiser dive the R.A.G.E. came up again to the same level but see for yourself
  6. Hi because of the troubles with my OS the video will be on air not before monday. so the weather is good, i´ll jump the R.A.G.E. on saturday in Spa.
  7. Hi just after 1 hour of rendering, the $&%§$"& windows xp fucked up. so for the moment just a small video at: http:\\www.bffs.info\images\rage.avi blues Frank P.S.: next weekend i will jump the R.A.G.E. at Spa /Belgium provehito in altum
  8. Hi just a few new pictures from the R.A.G.E. the dive of it is very impressive. (i get numbers after this weekend) and the best, after a 360° front raiser turn, it is possible to get a lift off of up to 60-70m (160 - 210 feet) when you go in deep brakes. and when you perform a full stall the R.A.G.E. hang only on it´s a & b lines, c & d are lose. and no , the R.A.G.E. nose isn´t a speed brake. the horizontal speed of the 107 is much more higher then on a 85 x-wing i will cut a video in a few hours blues Frank provehito in altum
  9. Hi Chuck, yes, the R.A.G.E. is from Paratec i will get a video tomorrow and place it in the net. what i saw was very impressive blues Frank provehito in altum
  10. Hi yes, the inles is just the small area at the bottom of the nose. it is just 3 cm high (a bit more then an inch) and a little bit behind the nose. like an airintake at a F16 Falcon. then the air will be directed to the nose and yes the canopy is not also looking much thinner, it is. just 13 cm high (5.1 inch) blues Frank provehito in altum
  11. Hi no it is not airlocked. the nose is completly closed. when you look closly, you will see the air intake below the nose. the air goes there in and then headed to the nose. keeping the nose under pressure, no matter which maneuver is flown. even when you perform a full rear raiser stall blues Frank provehito in altum
  12. Hi that couldn´t be the R.a.g.e.! because in the moment there is only one chute flying! and that only in germany! the R.a.g.e is not a stilleto like canopy. provehito in altum
  13. Hi have a look at the pictures. a brand new canopy with a brand new nose design! and compare it with the x-braced nose. 2 weeks ago i was in saarluis düren (germany) the new canopy will be called R.A.G.E. (Ram Air Guided Engine) and has his roll out a few days earlier and yes this RAGE is a hell of a canopy. the size now is a 107 sqf max exit weight is 107 kg and there will be also a 86 and 120 in a few weeks. i will get some videos soon too, so stay tuned. blues Frank p.s.: the manufacturer is paretec / germany www.paratec.de provehito in altum

  15. Hi Paratec build no elliptical sport Chute till today, because of some disadvantages of these elliptical´s. when a brake fires in opening, what do you get, a fast spinning elliptical, line twists and maybe a cut away. on my 85 x-wing for example, a fired brake is a piece of cake, just lay your body to the opposite side and the chute fly´s straight forward. what happened when you perform a toggle turn, an elliptical will further shift a few degrees. what do you expect from a parachute? wild, fast turns , a higher risk for malfunctions, the chute do sometimes not that what he shall then turn to an elliptical like a stilleto, nitro(n) etc. what i want from a chute is: nice, stress free openings deep diving when i want it, bring me home from a long spot and a very long swoop. oh and i forget, a very nice price-performance payoff. blues F. provehito in altum
  16. Hi no the X-Wing isn´t a stilleto in any kind. the x-wing is not elyptical. the x-wing is not comparable with any other chute on the market. maybe the fandango looks a little bit like the cobalt but also these two chutes are not comparable. Paratec built no elyptical parachutes. and the fandango´s first roll out was 1995. provehito in altum
  17. Hi have a look on the manufacture site www.paratec.de in the moment it is in German, because the site is under a reconstruction. F. provehito in altum
  18. Hi i´m a x-wing pilot for a long time (exact 2,5 Years and aprox. 900 jumps on it; X-Wing 105 and now 85) The X-wing is not x-braced, and the packjop is like shaking a cocktail. no sort of lines and nose, just shake, put the slider in the middle , pick up the tail and put it on the floor. my fastest packjob was 2 minutes and 45 seconds. (Brakes set and slide up) the openings are very soft and in 90% in heading. a lose brake or a line twist is absolutly no problem. no cutaway with this canopy. toogle turns are wide and smooth,( thats because of the ratio of this wing- the 85 is 5 meters wide) front riser turns are deep and fast with a very wide recovery arc, you must start a hookturn at a very high altitude, but a hook is not recommended for that canopy, the best way to start a very long swoop is a 360° Carv dive with the frontrisers. sometimes i´m still in the diveloops when my foot surfe the gras :-) another very radical maneuver is a real barrel roll. yes, like a plane. ok ,the lines getting very lose, and after the roll maybe half of the canopy is collapsed, but that´s no problem, just pull the brakes. this canopy is doing what you want, nothing more nothing less. But aware, the 85 is nothing for rookie pilots. the Stallpoint is very small and comes very quick. the best way to avoid are tripple risers. I like my stress free X-Wing. oh, i forget, to compare it with other brands you have to pay attention on that Paratec measure the top of the canopy. a 85 x-wing is like a 69 FX or a 71 Velocity and the wingloading is best in the 1.9 to 2.4 range. (my is 2.7) F. provehito in altum
