  1. Woohoo! Can you say . . . "SPANKING?" Arrive Safely John
  2. I am a Red Sox fan, and I do think that Pedro has a temper, but looking at the video he was defending himself. Don Zimmer bit off more than he could chew. Arrive Safely John
  3. That was actually a mistake, but since you needed the URL, maybe it was meant to be!?!?! I fixed it nonetheless. As far as camping at DeLand goes, I dunno . . . PM Skymama - she'll give you the info you're looking for. Arrive Safely John
  4. That would just be da bomb! The Underdog Series! Cursebusters! Edit: to fix the quote (doh!) Arrive Safely John
  5. I have an extra huge noggin. Sky Systems has made me two XXL/Long Factory Divers that fit me perfectly. Try an XXL first to see if it fits. If you are squeezing an XL Z1 on your head, chances are that will be good enough. Arrive Safely John
  6. There are a few good threads on Scotch Guarding here. I put three coats on my new Odyssey using red cap Scotch Guard, following the manufacturer's recommendations. I kept shaking the can during the application to prevent clotting (which will stain the rig), and let the rig dry overnight after each coat. It has served me well! Arrive Safely John
  7. I will not pack a reserve if the batteries or 4/8 year service comes due during the next 120 day period. I feel that it is not only my responsibility to ensure airworthiness of the rig when I inspect/repack it, but also to ensure to the best of my ability that the rig remains airworthy until it is inspected/repacked again. Of course, anything could happen to the rig during that 120 days to make it unairworthy, but I will not pack a rig that I know will become unairworthy during that period. Arrive Safely John
  8. Thanks! See you next weekend! Arrive Safely John
  9. I run WindowsME, and I'm looking for some simple photo editing software. Crop, rotate, adjust color, resize, etc. Nothing of the PhotoShop complexity. Cheap is good too. Any suggestions?? Arrive Safely John
  10. I almost forgot . . . the Bo still flies, but its starring role now is being parked near the peas during the Christmas holiday shutdown, festively decorated with Christmas lights! Arrive Safely John
  11. The active aircraft at Raeford Parachute Center are a Twin Otter and two Cessna 182s (not sure about the wide body status - since I am a wide body, they're all narrow to me!) We also have a Casa and a Super Otter owned by another company on the airport . . . the DZ uses them for special events. The Twin-Bo is not used to fly jumpers anymore, but I sure got a lot of jumps from it when it did!
  12. It was a great game . . . worth keeping me up well beyond my bedtime. I have been a BoSox fan since 1975, having gone through all of the disappointments over the years. It was fun watching last night's victory over the Yanks. I thought the coverage was good, but the commentary terrible. Joe Morgan and John what's-his-name on ESPN call the best baseball for my money. Arrive Safely John
  13. Lending support for some already mentioned: Sky Kat Dropzone.com Classifieds Enclave Classifieds And to bring up a new one: eBay (Do a search: "skydiving") Arrive Safely John
  14. First of all, don't sell yourself short. You now have seven more skydives than millions of the world's population. Also, all of us, including me, started where you are. Knowing your limits is good (crawl, walk, run), but don't box yourself in, K?? Awesome! Congratulations! You're well on your way . . .
  15. I have heard the term "Beer Rig" used to describe someone's spare rig, but have no clue as to its origin or a more specific definition. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Arrive Safely John
  16. What curse?? Bambino who?? I have been a fan since the '75 season when they played the Big Red Machine in the World Series. It's time for the dragon (Yankees) to be slayed, and for the two underdogs to face each other (Cubs & BoSox). Arrive Safely John
  17. I was in Tucson on business for three weeks, and spent two weekends at Skydive Arizona. It's incredible how friendly the folks are at this place! I have been there several times before, but this time it became a home away from home for me. Great people, a great vibe, and fantastic facilities. Participating in Holli's (FreeFlyHol) birthday celebration jump was an honor for me . . . I would not trade the look on Storm's face when he released the bag full of petals for anything! It was a privilege to be involved. Jeff's (TaeKwonDoDo) manly transition from wet-behind-the-ears A License holder to docking last on big ways was a blast to watch. Although we did not get to skydive together, it was fun being there for it all. BTW - I hope your jumpsuit is clean by now! You see, Jeff is a very "down to earth" kinda guy! Nathan (ChromeBoy) packs like Godiva makes chocolate. His openings are sweeeeeet! Thanks, pal. I got to take my wife's cousin up on a tandem, sharing this important part of my world with yet another family member. My final jump at Eloy was the tandem with Betsy (bbarnhouse). It was a fun and very special skydive for me. See this thread for the pics and commentary . . . My deepest thanks to everyone who made my visit such a great one. Special thanks to Besty, who so freely gives away her love and energy to make everyone feel at home. You are an incredible human being and indomitable spirit. It is a joy to call you my friend. Until January, y'all . . . Arrive Safely John
  18. I am hoping for this series matchup . . . I am a Red Sox fan, and would love to see the underdog series. After last night, we're one step closer! Heal quickly, Johnny Damon! Arrive Safely John
  19. 26,000 feet from a C-141 Starlifter Arrive Safely John
  20. Check out [url "http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=9637;#9637"] this thread
  21. I always check my gear before I put it on . . . before every jump. That ritual keeps this from happening to me. Arrive Safely John
  22. Be the banana! It was indeed a joy to share a tandem with your most awesome and incredible pixieness! Thanks for volunteering - I had an absolute blast! I treasure our friendship and look forward to our next skydive together, however that looks!! Much Love and Respect, John P.S. Speaking of photo op . . .
  23. 19 years, 2875 jumps, 3 injuries - all from landings. 1) Sprained ankle (as a student - 8 jumps) 2) Bruised heel 3) Bruised tailbone IMHO, injuries are most likely while landing . . . but these days free fall and canopy collisions are on the rise. Arrive Safely John
  24. I highly recommend SkyKat Gear Shop . They will make you a great deal and stand behind the sale. Customer service is excellent! Arrive Safely John
  25. The regulatory agency for skydiving in this country is the FAA. They publish regulations (laws) about skydiving, which are really not that restrictive. They do not require a USPA membership. As previously posted, most DZs in this country are USPA Group Members, which means they are committed to upholding the Basic Guidelines USPA poublishes to make skydiving safe and enjoyable for all of us. At USPA Group Member DZs, you will be asked to join USPA at some point in your training to continue skydiving there. At my DZ students are asked to apply for at least a 45-day temporary membership before making their first AFF jump. USPA has many benefits, which you can read about at the USPA website Hope this helps! Arrive Safely John
