geese that makes me scared......
-
i have had this same thing happen to me when i first started. yet i was determined to go through it.. dont ignore your fear. use it as a weapon and let it be a guied you use to keep yourself safe. it is normal to be scared.. just dont let the fear beat you and keep you from doing what you want.. what your feeling is normal.... just dont run away from it...

the first canopy i ever surfed was a pd 9 cell f11 loaded at .8-1.... so downsizeing isnt necessarily the way to learn.. learn to fly the hell out of what you got then go smaller... you wont regret those steps in 1500 jumps from now

Should we comment to DZ's about their negative advertising?
marks replied to peek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The post is about the advertisement.... he may go there and LOVE it there but it's not the point... I LOVE my home DZ but if they had "questionable" advertising... I'd be questionning myself with the same thoughts : "Should I make it my point to say something about the negativity?" No, he is refering to the negativity he has found in the advertisments he has read. Again, he is refering to the advertisment, asking if it is his business or not... some seem to think it is..... The angry dz owner? Unless it's him typing bad stuff about other dzs then, this post is not about him either. Personnaly, I agree wholheartedly with taking part in trying to reduce any mud slinging in this sport... I mean, we all go nuts when we see the media 'getting it wrong' but here I see some people defending another DZO trash talking other DZs?? Don't make much sense to me. I could say I'm real safe by listing certain threats and commenting on what I do to reduce the risk... but as soon as I start saying "So and So's equipment is not up to date."... well, isn't this a step below slander? I agree with the poster who says that any bad words spoken about any DZ is bad for the sport... and A money-hungry DZ operator who slanders other DZs is most definately not doing his/her part to promote the Sport... there are other ways to sell your product. i would like to see the add he is refering to then,..... because he is not refering to one..... i can guarentee that....// show me the add that this "questionable" dz says anything negatve about another drop zone in particular and i will stand corrected -
why would you want to get rid of an rsl on a water landing??? the only reason i can think of is if you want to cut away the main and use the reserve pack as a flotation device... but still it will only float for about 6-7 minutes.... im curious as to why you would want to disconnect it..

the path your on may not be taking you where you think it is... i mean it might not be taking you to be in the medicine feild..... but it is taking you where you need to be.... where you want to be,... just let it go and stop to smell the flowers every now and then..... -
If you pull your front riser as far as you can (lets say 4"-6") I would hope you would have some tail deflection. You should have about 2" of slack in your break lines (on average). this means you should be able to pull down on your break lines about 2" before your tail starts to deflect. If you are able to pull down 6" your breaks are to long and you will not have much of a flare at all. this is not tru for all canopies...... all canopies are different.... but may be true for some

ahhhh... nice! amen... but anyways... if you go back to talk to her again she will not be there..... her mission was to give you this info and now she is on another..... the spiritual world is a weird place but it is fun to wander throughout it... \ \ like stated above.. whatever path your on enjoy it.. Are you being sarcastic? Because I actually thought about that. I thought, gee, what if poof she's gone now. I could of course attribute her absence to her being transferred to st pete to be a paremedic, but what if she really was just meant to tell me that? She said she'd worked there for 16 years, tho! Ahh! I know I am too gullible... how do I stop that? ! Everyone probably thinks i'm weird now. I mean, yes, maybe she just wants to be something she's not. And, I do happen to have a love for medicine and so it kinda freaked me out when she said that even though i'd kinda been down on pharmacy and more up and up on engineering or geology. She could've gone with something I sounded more enthused about, but instead said that medicine was my calling. Ok, I sound stupid, think i'll stop now. Angela. that is how the spiritual world works... dont let it freak you out ..... let it make you smile and laugh because you have the insight and the ability to see and feel those things... your very lucky to have a guide in you spirit...... dont asky why.. and dont try to understand it... it is you yourself leading the way... you trust yourself dont you???? dont ask why.. just trust it and enjoy you new path.....it is taking you to the place you need to be!! weather that is being in the medical feild or not... it will lead you to where you need to be... if you just let it flow you also will feel alot of posative energy surrounding you... ok now i sound like a freak... but just enjoy... your one of the lucky ones later -

Curious canopy question for the Napkin jumpers
marks replied to jumper03's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
in reference to you asking about peaple landing off on a sub 100 sf canopy. if you ask most pilots jumping these you will likely find there deployment alt is 3500 ft or higher. high performance canopies breed high performance malfunctions. also the higher you are the better choice you have in outs. i find myself looking at the spot before i leave the airplane and while im in freefall. also i never get on the plane without knowing the winds.....with all this in mind it is rare that i land off.....and the landing area at my dz is not very big either.. and there isnt alot of outs.. -
i had a tension not malfunction on an 87 vx on the right side d lines... if i didnt chop it right away i was going to black out because it was spinning soo fast.

Should we comment to DZ's about their negative advertising?
marks replied to peek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
yes you are 100% correct.. and i appreiciate him not saying the name..... my argument is that he has never been there!..... he is listening to all the dz polatics and rumours going around at othere dz's... stay out of the polatics and you may acctually find you like it there....... dont listen to the angry dz owner because he is mad that this dz took 10 tandams from his market area..... it isnt any of our buissness...... it is theres..... ive been there since the day they opened and have never felt like i was "decieved" or "ripped off".... i cant say i agree with everything that they do as a "buisness".. but i agree 125% with what they have done with me as a skydiver...... -

the "questionable" drop zone has done alot for skydiving in your area. it is just too bad that you cannot stay out of somones buissness polatics and enjoy what they have built for you.... a skydiver.. blue sky's p.s. there are a few nice drop zones in that area... one of them just wants all the tandams.... what does that have to do with you??..... nothing.. you should come out and jump with us and see what kind of experiance is there and how much better of a skydiver you could become... dont want to argue but i dont like peaple talking trash about any dz they never goto. or even never have been too... -
ya!!!! i will be there sat night spinning records progression and some trance!.. dj insight! edit... dj empire will be there spinning some jungle/drum and bass
-
if you were still going by the leval way of aff they should start you off on aff level 4 one instructor release dive

it is normal to have the high front riser pressure on the vx..... or most other crossed braced for that matter.... you will learn to love it......... use the harness like you said.. you can get more out of it that way anyways..
-
Interesting... I haven't tried it to quiet that extent.. I'll try next time.. I am on a crossfire2, 97.. Loaded almost 2.0.. I still appreciate the directional control as far as swoop lane and total airspace used I have with the double front snap hook that one doesn't have with the carve or harness turn. Not only that the double front approach is much more forgiving where turn in altitude is concerned.. Rhino i jumpped a crossfire loaded at 1.9 for a long time.. you should really think about trying it with the harness.. it should react well... the turns starts off slower but picks up speed past the point where you can hold the riser down.... it is a slower way to turn but it is more natural for the canopy .. and if you dial it in i promise your swoops will go way farther...... also you have no need to deform the canopy to make a turn... less chance for a collapse or any other abnormality... try starting a 270 and go 1/2 to 3/4 way with harness then pull the front riser just a bit to line you up on you approch and you will be pleased.
-
well i dont know what canopy you jump or your wing loading... different loadings and canopies are going to react different. for example im jumping an 87 vx loaded at 2.1 without weight.. after deployment i move my legstraps down my legs just a bit. as if i was sitting in the harness... that way i can get much more input in the harness.. i can keep it turning and diveing long after i cant hold the front riser down anymore...
-
be carefull useing this technigue.. setting up in brakes and snapping into front risers on a downwind approach could cuse the canopy to fold under., due to lack of pressure...... i have a hard time getting my front risers down for much more than a 180. i consistantly do 270's now without even touching my front risers. just lean in the harness... you will be supprized how much more speed you can get out of the canopy just useing your harness....
-
... jc is also a big guy. i believe he told me he loaded at about 2.0-2.1 and adds weight or removes some weight for different compatitions.. he also said that he does not jump more than one canopy anymore... he just adds or removes weight.
-
if you try to flare with your rear risers with a high performance canopy it is likely you will creat a high speed stall while travaling at high speed .... ouch!!!.....
