I got a sweet deal on a pc105, but everything on it is in Japanese. I've been using it for a few months like this and I've got most of the basics figured out, but someone told me that I could upgrade the firmware to make it English. Does anybody know if this is true? And if it is, where I can get the firmware needed to do it? Thanks for any help...

47 from 12.5 before 5pm? On a hot day in a 150? I call bullshit...

That first one makes me think handcams are safer than outside video. It's a sweet picture, but I don't think I want a guy flying up there next to my drouge. If the student had dumped them out right then it might not have ended too well. As far as video quality I think good Handcam video is pretty much comparable to mediocre outside video. By mediocre I mean nothing fancy where they just park right in front of you and keep it in frame the whole time. The real advantage to outside video is the stills. I think people will always want good stills.

Reason not to tell tandem student details about what happens after opening
NSEMN8R replied to efs4ever's topic in Instructors
How high were you when you threw it? -
QuoteIt really irritates that vein in the back of my neck when a video guy tells me to pick up or slow down the fall rate, or face into the sun, or give a better nod and count. It's the cameraman's job to get the shot. The tandem instructor has his hands full as it is. Quote I agree that fall rate is something the camera guy should deal with, but I have no problem turning them into the sun or giving a good exit count. I think it takes a little bit of teamwork to give the customer a good video. I get $30 for tandems and $30 for video. Stills get you another $20. I do both and it seems fair to me.

Maybe just get a protec for now and buy some of those bonebonds. Then when you're ready and you know what you want you can get a sweet deal on it.

Hey Scott- It worked out great. I'm getting the GTI and my Classic 2 is going to a guy at my home dz so now I'll have someone to fly with. Thanks for hooking me up.

Just wanted to say thanks to all you guys for letting me get in on your flocks. I had a great time and learned a lot. Mostly I learned how much more I have to learn yet. It's really hard to know how you're flying when it's all solos. Getting out with you guys really put things in perspective for me.

I have 2 also. Mostly they call me The Inseminator because I'm very potent. I had 5 kids by the time I was 30. If anybody out there is having fertility problems, just send me a pic of your girl for the "Spank Bank" and I'll knock her up for you from over here. Or they just call me Browny cuz I'm the only non-white (Hawaiian) guy at our dz.

How did you make it? Can you tell me what parts I need and where I might find them for a rebel xt? Thanks for any help you can give.

Come on now Mark, that's not really fair. I'll agree that the guy's a butt cork, but he has a better safety record that most other places I've jumped. 20 years without a fatality has to say something. Also, I've never seen better 182's and the facilities there are the best in the state by a loooooong ways. Padded indoor packing, pool tabe, foosball table, video games, really nice hot tub... He would best serve the public by letting someone with a personality run the place for him.

Yup-- You guys were right. There is life outside of Hastings. I was pretty bummed about all this at first, but it looks like it will all work out for the best. I found a kick ass new home dz with a big plane and lots of really cool people. And the DZO there isn't a bi-polar jackass. They even let their staff make fun jumps!

Is that all there is to it? I wish I'd known it was that easy
-
I don't think I'd have the balls to do them from 6 with a first time jumper.
-
How high were they from?
-
Is that even possible? We've got some pretty nice 182s with wing extentions and dive brakes and all that, but there's no way we could do that many. 14 of them took me the whole day.
-
Yes, It's in Michigan. Here's the add in the paper. It has the address too. Thanks for looking this stuff up. I jumped there all day yesterday and the cops never showed up.
-
Well, I heard somebody found a way in there last night and rescued most of the personal gear plus a couple of tandem rigs. This sucks. Looks like there's going to be a bunch of homeless skydivers up here... Maybe somebody cool will buy the place and keep it open?

I stopped by the dz yesterday and there were notices posted on all the doors that said: " This property has been seized by and is under the custody of Rutland Charter Township in accordance with state law...." It went on with something about personal property taxes and a warning not to "remove or disturb any property". There was also a notice of a public auction to be held next month in the local paper today. The DZO is at Oshkosh this week so I don't know what he's planning to do, but I'm betting when he gets home he'll tear those notices down and open for business as usual. So my question is if he opens, can I get in trouble for working there or is it ok for him to use the place while it's "in the custody" of the township? Also, if it is shut down, what about everybody's personal gear and stuff that's in there? Think they'll let us just take it? They have a ton of tandems scheduled this weekend and I could use the cash, but I don't need to get in trouble for trespassing or anything. Thanks for any opinions on this. Tony

I just bought a used pc3 that was kind of messed up. When I got it, it would record a little bit of blue screen when you hit the button before it started recording right. Then I dropped it and it quit working altogether. I took it in to Mark's Photo and they sent it in to Sony and for $240 it came back 3 weeks later working just like new. Most places will charge you $20 to send it in to see if it can be fixed and apply it to the cost if they fix it. Mine definitely looks like a skydiving camera and nobody said anything to me about it. Good luck!

I'll sell you my digirebel for $500 if you want it. It's in like new condition... All I do anymore is haul meat so I never get to use it anyways. PM me if you're interested.

Is there any difference in the quality of the image if I grab it right off the tape on to the memory stick using the camera instead of dumping it on the computer and grabbing it with premier?
-
That's a pretty kick ass video. Thanks for putting a bright spot in this gloomy, shitty day we're having

Commercial airline pilots wouldn't be allowed to do this for obvious reasons of safety. Same goes for long disctance commercial tractor-trailer drivers. Why should this logic not apply to tandem instructors? This is a good example of how we need to regulate ourselves before "someone" steps in to regulate us. I'm not a TI, but it seems logical to me that if a TI jumps a passenger while exhausted, the safety level is less than optimal. This came from the "Intsructional Movie" thread and it got me wondering... What's the most tandems you guys have done in a day? How many do you think you could safely do? How much difference does aircraft make? Should there be rules like pilots and truckers have? 14 is my personal record, but we're a cessna DZ and the only reason we stopped is because we ran out of light. I'm sure I could do a lot more with no problems if we could climb faster. I was tired at the end of it, but I don't think I was ever so exhausted that I was dangerous. Personally, I think it would be impossible to regulate fairly since everyone has different limits. But, I guess they don't always think about fairness when they make rules...

Tandem passengers 'instructions movie' as part of ground prepartaion
NSEMN8R replied to Kuper's topic in Instructors
The Saturday before last I did 14 from a 182. Started at 8AM and went until dark with absolutely no breaks in between. The worst part about a day like that is having to stay up all night editing handcam videos. The nice part is I made almost $1000 in 1 day.
