Karin, Please contact me about the shirts. I was waiting on a few other people but I'm putting the order in now and need your sizes. I can't for the life of me find your last message so please resend the sizes you want. Sorry for the delay! Thanks! peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

It sounds like you want something for nothing? (Or are you just trolling?) I just bumped up this thread and you should read through it. I have lots of footage you might find useful. But it's not free. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

This thread is too important to photographers to let fall off the radar screen. With so many new camera flyers running around with digital rebels, lets all try to remember our worth here and not undercut eachother. If anything, talk to the other camera flyers at your dz so everyone has the same basic rate*. We'll never pay off our cameras if we keep doing people favors. And don't ever let any television show "use" your footage for nothing or close to nothing. *edit to add, since that confused someone, i meant same basic rate for the same quality of the same type of photo or video. There are obviously different types of camera work which would draw different prices. I'm not saying price fixing, I'm just saying camera flyers should talk to eachother. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

Don't mess with an "Authorized" repair center, TRUST ME. Send it direcetly to SONY. Go to sony.com and find a SONY repair center. The one in San Diego kicks ass. How long ago did you (or your dad) buy it? Do you have a receipt, is it under warranty? good luck peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

Coming Back After an Injury
lewmonst replied to GentleTiger's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Congrats on your determination to come back. Please pass on your experience to others, especially jumpers you see landing on their butt intentionally for whatever reason. So many people do not understand the potential dangers of this... we've discussed it on here before, but, please, people, PLF if your not going to stand up your landing and come down hard vertically. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com -
Sold it already actually. But if you're interested, Ed will probably sell his, which is newer than mine. See you tomorrow? peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

Yeah, actually, Ritz in Temecula, CA (SoCal) has just received the one that I ordered. I am probably not going to actually buy it because I'll save $100 in sales tax by ordering online somewhere else... So if anyone in Perris, Elsinore, SD wants a 20D, let me know. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

Other than the size and weight improvement over the 330, the biggest difference I see is the lense size. The 330 and it's predecesor the 120, both have a 37mm filter size (ie, lense size). All of the lower end PC style cameras, 101, 109 etc, have a 30mm filter size. Smaller lense means less light. The specs on the 350 match up with the 330, that is, 2MP video, 3MP still, etc. I would like to compare the two in low-light situations to see if the 350 can keep up with the larger lense on the 330. I doubt we'll ever see a new PC model from Sony with a 37mm lense ever again. From their perspective, amateurs use small cameras (PC style) and amateurs won't know or appreciate the quality difference between a 30mm lense and a 37mm lense. The consumer that would appreciate the larger lense will buy a bigger, better camera anyway... As our skydiving niche is so small... So, anyone have a 350 and 330 they can do a comparison with for me? When the 330's make it to the Sony Outlet Center, I'm going to buy another one. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

Actually, the San Diego one is just south of Escondido, so it only took about 30 minutes to get there. Irvine would probably be a nightmare trying to drive the 91... But thanks for letting me know, i think i'll take all my future sony problems to the one in San Diego. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

So I get a box in the mail today... wtf? I just dropped off my PC330 last friday to the REAL Sony Service Center in San Diego, and no shit, it's my 330, back already, repaired at N/C! Part replaced, mechanical & electrical adjustment, cleaned and all that!!! I'm so happy! Per my other thread, Should I replace the internal lense assembly myself?, screw the "Authorized" Sony Repair Centers - I will never stray from the real Sony Service Center again. SoCal peeps - do NOT use PVS in Elsinore, go straight to Sony in San Diego. woohoo, ok, off to the dz to test it... peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

Agreed, Perris is where it's at! It was nice meeting you! peace http://www.exitshot.com

EXIT TO THROWING THE DROGUE OUT INSTABILITY PROBLEMS
lewmonst replied to foreverfree's topic in Instructors
options? well, what are they wearing now? have they ever jumped with weights? Do they always jump with wings? do they have a tight slick rw suit? can they sit fly, back fly or knee fly? Those are options, of which, wearing weights is the easiest solution. It's nice of you to help out, but I still think the camera flyer needs to be versatile and should be able to handle any tandem fallrate. What do they do when you have a TM that's 220 and a passenger that's 230? If your camera guys can't keep up and complain of pain so much, maybe they shouldn't be videoing tandems. (sorry to tangent from the topic of the thread) peace http://www.exitshot.com -
EXIT TO THROWING THE DROGUE OUT INSTABILITY PROBLEMS
lewmonst replied to foreverfree's topic in Instructors
What?!? In my opinion the camera flyer is completely responsible for staying with the fall-rate. If the tandem master is aware that the camera flyer is struggling and helps during drogue-fall, great. But the camera flyer needs to dress for success. For your sake, it sounds like they need to start wearing a weight belt. I'm pretty light, and I will put on up to 18 lbs and jump without wings if I'm with a heavy tandem. On the contrary, I can wear just my wingjacket and keep up with the lightest tandem combination. peace http://www.exitshot.com -
Almost a serious incident - Do your own gear check!
lewmonst replied to lewmonst's topic in Safety and Training
I usually don't post other people's mishaps, but this one we can all learn from... An experienced jumper was demo-ing a rig and main. Due to time constraints the jumper had a packer hook-up and pack the main. Immidiately after landing the second jump on it of the day, one of the risers just came off/fell off the attachment point. It was found that the yellow cable had been innadvertently routed through the gromet-hole of the hard-housing and then through the loop and into the riser-stow. Under tension, it seemed to stay in place, barely, but when tension was eased, it slipped. It likely slipped a little after the first jump, and was just on the verge of coming undone on the second jump. The jumper is very, very lucky to not have had the riser come off under canopy, especially close to the ground, obviously. People, give yourself a good gear check. Do not trust packers (not saying that packers aren't trustworthy, just that you still have to take responsibility for your gear). A simple, but thorough, check of 3's would have caught this. When you check your three-rings, don't just look at the three-rings, look at the cable and routing to make sure it is routed properly. It's your life. Live and learn. Peace http://www.exitshot.com -

I LOVE MY NEPTUNE! Really. I was very against digital when Digitudes were the only thing around, then I was pressured into trying the neptune even though I wasn't interested in digital... I am so glad I did. I LOVE IT. It's so easy to use. Get the latest update. If you're in Perris, find Ed, he'll update it for you for free and replace your velcro strap if needed. Alti-2 ROCKS! peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

Read this: http://science.howstuffworks.com/question583.htm It's a completely different process than a deskjet. The prints are higher quality. The most noticeable difference is the continuous tone and the colors won't fade or bleed. You can also handle the print as soon as it comes out, no drying needed. I have an 8x10 dye sub printer and now a 4x6 dye sub printer. I love them! peace lew http://www.exitshot.com

Thanks for the update. I sent my Katana back to you guys to check out. Kolla said she'd get me a demo in the meantime. I sent her an email but of course it bounced back. If it's possible, please ask Kolla if it's possible to get that by this weekend. Square1 is tired of me borrowing theirs. Thanks, glad you guys didn't lose anything (but power) from the storm. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com -
Should I try to replace the internal lens assembly myself?
lewmonst replied to lewmonst's topic in Photography and Video
The $300 flat fee is for repairs and does not include parts if parts need to be replaced. What I'm afraid of is Sony will charge $300 + $220 for the part... ugh. This PVS crappy place is an "Authorized Sony Service Center" too... lew need camera Eric: Do you know that it has to be calibrated by experience or are you just guessing? I think, by the way the guy sounded from the Sony Parts place, the lens assembly is fixed and all I might have to do is swap the new one in for the broken one... http://www.exitshot.com -
Should I try to replace the internal lens assembly myself?
lewmonst replied to lewmonst's topic in Photography and Video
So I dropped my pc330. (Which was bought from B&H back in the day before I realized I could get a Ritz ESP on it...) Anyway, I took it to PVS in Elsinore last wednesday. Paid $45 upfront for the estimate (which would go towards the repair...). They said they would call by Friday with the estimate. Come this Wednesday, still no word, I call PVS. The guy who answered the phone took my order number and then said he'd have to call me back. An hour and a half later, still no returned phone call, I call again. The girl (who'd told me she'd call by friday with an estimate) answered this time... She says, "Oh the technician was just trying to call you and it was busy...". So I enlightened her that that was not possible since my cell phone either allows the call to come through, on call waiting or goes to voicemail... Whatever. So finally she says the internal lens assembly needs to be replaced and the part is going to cost $239.97 and the repair is going to cost $160 for a total of $400. So I ask, "How is the repair cost calculated? Is it an hourly rate?" And she says, "No, our technician determines it based on the model number and the repair." So I say, "Ok, but is that based on an estimate of how long it will take to repair it?" And she says, "No, it's based on the model number..." Ok, fine, whatever again. So I ask how long it will take to get the part and be repaired. And she says, "I'm not sure, the part could take 3-5 business days and I don't know how long after that." So I say, "I understand that, but whether or not I have you repair it depends on how long it's going to take..." And I explained to her that I use the camera for work and I need it fixed so I can return the other camera I bought within the 14 day return policy, etc, etc. Which is why I was upset about not getting the estimate last Friday either... So I called Sony and finally tracked down the replacement part for $219.97. I could get it in a couple days. And I don't want to give any more of my money to the morons at PVS. So should I try to replace the internal lens assembly on my pc330 myself? How hard can it be, I mean, we've taken apart cameras before and superglued things... just a lot of little screws and ribbons to be careful with, right? lew need camera peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
