Yes, it's all the same chit, but it's not all the same service or customer care. Saving a few $$ up front is great, but creating a good relationship with your local shop is probably worth a bit more "down the road". Support your local gear shops! I'm confused...how is that relevant to what KellyF asked?? "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..."

I don't think that answers the question. If you've got a "stunned TM" and the Cypres fires, how is that different than if it took the RSL with it? As I remember, there was never a problem with large risers breaking, only Ty XVIIs...so when did we start breaking Tandem Risers? Can someone tell me when the last time you saw a Tandem with Ty XVII risers was? Now, I know I don't know nearly everything about the gear in this sport, but one would think that a Riser that was engineered to break would have been used in someone's marketing. We've used RWS tandem systems for years here, and I've never heard about a frangible riser construction on them. Can someone please bring the glory to my eyes and enlighten me on this topic?? "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..."

I kind of does matter "why". The folks at Precision have always been excellent about working with people when it comes to technical specs. If they don't want to give you the numbers, there is probably a reason why...you might want to call them yourself and find out "why". My guess might be that if you need to change out 4 lines because of "excessive wear" and "re-trim" the rest of them, your line set is probably in need of replacement, not just maintenance. That might be why they don't want to give you the specs. Give them a call, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to explain themselves to you! I threw some pics from the set-up/first day of the boogie up onto the website. I'll try to update it daily. I'll put the link under the appropriate day in the "Schedule" section. It's already been a great Boogie and it hasn't even gotten going yet! http://www.skydance.net/sd/AMB2003.htm The SkyVan is up and running, the Jet is here. Vendors are here with their stuff....and the best Sushi chef in Sac just pulled in to start setting up for dinner!!!

120 is not the largest X-braced canopy out there. I have a 135 Xaos (loaded about 2.1) and it's the sweetest thing I've ever flown. Precision will build them in any size you want, and they all open great...I didn't believe it when Beezey told me he wanted to build me one, but I took his word for it and I've never regretted it. Some Mfgs. don't want to build X-braced over 120, mostly because their openings are really crappy. The Xaos does not have this problem. Thank you! Finally someone has the balls to stand up for their convictions, even though they know their argument isn't supported by the facts. Just like Sundevil said, you're free to make your own choices, but the hard facts show jumping with and RSL is safer than jumping without one. Don't jump with one if you don't want to, but at least have the trust in your own choice to say "I'm doing it because I want to, even though I know it's not the safest way to jump." This sport is still about freedom to choose, so choose as you will. But make sure you've got all the facts before you do so! Good on you Sundevil!

Yeah, about a dozen people a year say that...and then they don't say anything else...ever. "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..."

If it's a Raven, it's either a 150 or a 181. Raven I and -M181 are both the same size (181 sq. ft +/-), MicroRaven 150 and -M150 are both 150 sq.ft., obviously. "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..."

Talk to your instructors...they know you best and can make a more educated decision with you than anyone here can. "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..."

Was that the main riser or the reserve riser? Racer's have ty XIII webbing for their harness sections, so if that's a reserve riser, it probably wasn't a Racer. (the pic was of ty VIII webbing) "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..."

First off, there is no such thing as a Raven 160R. It's probably a PD160R (or a Raven 150). Secondly, I think you ought to be able to get that rig for a bit cheaper than $3000. Maybe $2500, but I think $2700 is a bit more reasonable, if it's in nice condition. Having not seen it, I can't tell you what we'd sell it for in our shop, but based off the info you provided, $2700 sounds a bit better than $3000. "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..."

You should have no problem getting a 170 into a J2. Mfgs. are notorious for under-stating the size of their rigs so no one complains about it being "too tight". We have several people putting 170s into J1s with no problems. "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..."
-
Javs are pretty notorious for having some slip in the reserve risers, especially the older ones. Especially with the way their RSL is routed under the riser. A good rigger should be able to keep them from slipping too much, but I've found they do move around more than on other rigs. "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..."

Actually, "riglets" refers to baby riggers...we're PC enough not to separate the girls from the boys "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..."

Were is the general population finding Xaos' for $1600???...try $2000! And you're right...it's the ones who bitch about a dime, then go and burn a dollar. Folks, skydiving is EXPENSIVE...sorry, but it is. But, if you spend your money on training first, you'll be able to fly your "cool guy" gear for years to come...or you can fly your "cool guy" gear now, and spend the money you would have spent on training on physical rehab...your choice. "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..."

The fact is less why it happens (as there are simply waaay too many reasons to try and stop them) but to understand that cutaway, low or no pull incidents do happen. It would be nice to think that we can prevent a lot of these issues, but some of them are still going to happen! This is the biggest reason why many pro-rsl people feel the way they do. You can't always avoid the problems, you might not even see them coming, but a passive back-up device can save you butt! "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..."

Thanks Chris, that's what I said a few weeks (months?) ago. Know how to fly your canopy with all the different inputs... ...and if you simply "can't" than maybe you're on the wrong canopy for you! "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..."
-
In an ideal world, you'd probably want to unhook it before cutting away from a canopy collision to be sure you got clear and away from the mess before opening your reserve. Of course, canopy collisions usually happen low, so it could be a double edged sword...not to mention you're not going to have much time. Basically, the only time you'd want it off is when you needed time/distance/assured clearance from your current position...and there aren't that many of those, outside of CReW and Camera. "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..."

I wish that I had thought for myself and not trusted that person. I wish I had one. I might decide not to jump it all the time, but I would like to have the option. You can always have one added...they're not expensive. "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. Massive head ake and ear presuure, help please!

Don't jump with any sort of a head cold...sinus pressure can build up. Hurts like crazy. Sometimes a mild sinus cold or allergy issue can cause the same things to happen. Incorrectly routed chest strap yesterday
rigging65 replied to PhillyKev's topic in Safety and Training
This is a very clear lesson as to why you simply shouldn't let anyone on the airplane that isn't fully geared up and ready to exit (in an emergency). No one gets on our planes without their chest strap properly routed and their leg straps at least tight enough that they're not flopping around. Helmets and seat belts on from before take-off 'till 1500'!! Never slack on those rules and you'll be much less likely to be attending a wake for someone who "knew better"... "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..." -
Just to be clear, Trident H&C, Inc. is not part of Action Air Parachutes. They are owned by the same principle, but the companies are totally separate. Separate books, separate locations, separate staffing. They happen to be on the same airport, and Action Air happens to be a dealer for Trident, but they're not the same company. You guys are right, I am wrong. The word MASTER does not appear on the license anymore. I apologize...obviously it's been a while since I've read up on them. But I still think my point is valid. If you want to obtain the highest level or license in an endeavor, you should be at least proficient at every aspect of it. Otherwise, how can you be at the "highest" level??? "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..."

Cool, I didn't know that! See, you learn something new every day! "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you long to return..."
